The Etymotic hf2 for iPhone and iPhone 3G is the world's first in-ear, high fidelity, noise-isolating headset. Enjoy clearer communication and better quality music playback.

Never miss a call

The inline microphone and control pod lets you answer calls manually and allows you to manipulate the music playback functions on your iPhone or iPhone 3G.

Good product, still the same design fault.

I pre-ordered my hf2's from Etymotic when they were first announced. I was very happy when they arrived quickly and they gave a discount for pre-ordering (although I still paid more than they are offered for sale here once shipping and tac was included).

I used them a couple of times a week for 3 months and the sound quality was excellent, somewhere between the ER6i's and the ER4p's which I had already own. They did get a bit painful on the ears after approximately 6 to 8 hours of use which I never had previously with Etymotic products.

The button functions in exactly the same way as the standard iPhone headset, but is much larger and less attractive, and the button does feel really rather cheap.

The problem occurred when I was delayed at an airport a few weeks back. All of a sudden the left channel died and, low and behold, when I wiggles the cable neck near the headphone jack the sound faded in and out. I am yet to meet an Etymotic owner who has not had the same problem of weak soldering at the headphone jack, so accept that you will have to send these items back to the US for repair (with £8 worth of insured shipping and hassle of being without them) when you buy them.

    First no, then YES!

I used the basic iPhone headset, then bought these. First use was a dissappointment, weak sound and allmost no bass. I tried the earplug pieces and they were a little better, but not suitable.

Then I just tried the silicone earpieces again and I was surprised that they have to be really deep in your ear to work! Now when I've learned how to position them correctly (which is easy when you get the feel for it), they work just great! Bass and the overall sound quality is from another world.

    Quality product

I bought my pair of hf2s after seeing a review in the Mail on Sunday a month or so ago, and they are possibly the best £100 I have spent. I am very surprised to see a negative review on here, and cannot understand how anyone could have any qualms with this product. The clarity when listening to music or taking calls is far better than any product I have ever used, and being a regular commuter for 20 odd years now, trust me I have tried many earphones!

Etymotic has obviously taken great care in the placing of the microphone; it picks up everything that comes out of your mouth (not ideal when speaking to the wife!)! Likewise however, no matter where I am, I can hear everything that the person on the other end of the line is saying to me.

The music listening experience that the hf2s offer is incredible too, I cannot hear anything else whilst the buds are inserted and the quality of sound leads me to believe I am in a studio! I highly recommend this product and so do the press according to the reviews I have seen!

    Great product, great sound...

When I first used these I didn't realise how to insert the earbuds properly, then a friend showed me how to insert them properly and the difference in sound was amazing. These are quality earbuds and the addition of the iPod controls really makes them a whole lot more useful, especially when your iPod is tuck away inside your coat. More

    A Shame

    Written by JF from Bicester

I've given this a 2, this is for several reasons. I think its probably best to state that this pair of headphones really does dish out some awesome sound quality and has a microphone which is great. I've had them for around 4 months now and I never once had a bad experience with them. They always delivered on the sound and in short were exactly what I needed at the time of purchase, a replacement for the standard hand free.

Unfortunately the left ear piece seems to have completely cut out, and when moved around connectivity is established again and sound returns. This I would probably expect from some £10-40 headphones but when your investing the best part of £100 into some headphones you don't expect this to happen. Yes the headphones do come with a 2 year warranty but as a UK customer I hear that I have to send away to the US and if it's a built in flaw then I will probably just invest in a different brand of headphones.

Summary: Save the money and invest in some headphones that will last.

Good Product - Poor build quality

Written by AL from BUCKHURST HILL

I've now had three sets of these headphones, the first two sets were returned for replacement to Apple after the left headphone stopped working - the third set had exactly the same issue, and is now out of warranty - so unable to return for replacement...!

The fault lies in the connection that plugs into the iPhone - when the left headphone stopped working, I was moving the cable, which would then cause the left headphone to work intermittently again, although you had to hold in an awkward position, so not a fix as such, but an indication of the poor build quality.

These headphones were always well looked after, never snagged or mis-treated, and I only ever used for commuting. I have a set of Sony headphones for 6 years that are still going strong, that cost a fraction of the price….why oh why is build quality so poor in supposedly premium products……! Hmmmmmmmm Very disappointed to say the least…!

Please spend as much time in build quality as in reasearch and performance…!
