    nowhere near enough done.

the improvements to FCP are particularly shallow. exporting. some more pro res. colour coded markers (I think). its about two years since the last release. pro apps are apparently a very long way down apple's priorities list. From anyone else, this qualifies as a dot release. I'm actually beginning to suspect that this might be the last final cut release we see from apple. as in, they off-load them. I am, I should add, a loyal professional user. More

    It is pretty amazing

Apart from a new tiny things i'd like to see added or changed (and they are tiny) this is the best editing suite we humans have, and the closest to perfection we have.

As long as Apple continue to keep making it better - and they seem to be - perhaps we will strike pure perfection soon! But until then, if your an editor - this is THE best there is.

    Very happy

    Written by SF from LOUGHBOROUGH

    10-Sep-2009

I am really happy with the updates in the new Final Cut Studio 3. Some great tweaks and some nice enhancements. Very happy that you can now send output to compressor and continue editing in Final Cut Pro whilst videos are outputting. I always had to output in the evenings or overnight so not to lose any valuable editing time. Also some great enhancements for Multicam edits and just getting into some of the changes for other programs.

The only think I am not happy with so far is that you can no longer right click between video clips in the timeline and close gap. This was a vital function that I am having to use other work arounds such as setting up a key on the keyboard to do this. You can now left click to highlight the space and then press delete but this is slower. Hopefully this will be sorted in an update.

Other than that well done apple!!!

  • Is there a student discount for Final Cut Studio?
    • Asked by RD from Winston-Salem

    Best Answer

Yes, BUT, it isn't worth it anymore.

You pay $899 for the academic version or $999 for the full version. On the surface it appears that the $100 would make it worth it to buy the academic version except for the "deal-breaker": You CANNOT upgrade from the academic version.

If you ever plan on buying another version of Final Cut Studio, you'll have to pay full price for the retail version when you aren't a student anymore. If you are still a student when the next version comes out, you can't upgrade from academic to academic either. You would have to pay another $899 to get the next version.

If you buy retail, it is $999 and you can upgrade the next time around for only $299.

I think the extra $100 will be money well spent in the long run.

  • Will Final Cut Studio run on the new Macbook Pro 13"?
    • Asked by MF from Tarzana
    • 10-Oct-2009
    Best Answer

Final Cut Pro will likely run with nearly all features on a Macbook Pro 13". Motion and Color require a discreet graphics card to support some features, which means you won't be getting everything that $999 pays for if you're running on a 13" MacBook Pro with the integrated graphics chipset. But if all you need to do is edit video, you should be fine! More

The £799.00 Final Cut Studio that you'll find in the store, requires no previously installed Final Cut Studio software, and is, on it's own, the most up-to-date and full package.

The £249.55 version is an upgrade, and requires a legally bought version of the previous version of Final Cut Studio (Final Cut Studio 2).
