my macbook is just over a year old. i calibrated it regularly as this is my first laptop and i am very precious about it. it has now decided there is no battery in there and has gone completely dead. not reduced capacity, but refuses to see that there is one present. £100 pounds for a new battery to replace one i didn't break is completely unfair and unreasonable. it is a hardware fault not bad maintenance that caused it.

I don't think I should be replacing this battery at only 18 months old for £99 - this isn't good quality/value but the Apple helpline says it is within their acceptable standards. Disappointed. I'm usually a great Apple fan. …More

Like others, the battery in my wife's MacBook went, system profiler said that it was unrecognized. Spoke to the nice people at Apple and although the MacBook was out of warranty by over a year they sent a replacement battery for free. Nice service from Apple! …More

When you have invested in an apple product and it lacks battery longevity it seems like adding insult to injury to charge almost £100 for a replacement. £50 would be a more reasonable price. …More

Not Bad At All

Ive had my Macbook for nearly 3 years and after about 440 cycles it is down to 26% and the battery lasts 40 minutes if I'm lucky.
I had never noticed any problems until very recently. It has only given up in the last few months so I can't really complain.
I cant think of a day that it wasn't used, so this really isn't a bad time at all for it to last.
Sometimes I would accidentally leave it in the car in cold conditions etc. and I have never really had any problems with it running.
I'm not extremely happy paying nearly £100 to replace it, but i know it will be worth it knowing I wont have to plug in to charge after 20 minutes.

I had my Mac for under 1 year ( 10 months ) when it broke.
It has decided to read that it has not got any battery and it is not going to charge.

Two problems:
1) The battery in the new MacBook is not supposed to be removable.
2) It will not fit in the original MacBook.
The "7hr battery" is pretty close in capacity to this battery, it's just that the new MacBook is a lot more energy efficient and that's why you can get up to 7 hours out of it. Even if you could take the battery out of the new MacBook and put it in your old one, you still would not be able to get 7hr of battery life out of it.
