    Its Time For Change, Apple

    • Written by from san Antonio

What i think is ridiculous about Apple, is that they create these beautiful pieces of machinery like the MacBooks and keep updating them, but don't bother to fix the most important accessory for it. How do you, as one the biggest companies, expected to be fully respect and trusted if you can't put even 10% of the work you put into the computers into the charger for the computers.

Mine has exposed wire and sparks sometimes, so disappointed. How about make a charger just as sleek and compact as the computers, also without the inflated prices.

    Shanty adapter

    • Written by from Overland park

I understand that the point of the magnetic charger is supposed to be for easier removal, but I would much rather have a charger that actually stays put when I move around with my computer. I also really dislike how thin the wire covering is for the adapter; the casing for the wires ripped so easily (along with the wires), and now I have to buy an $80 replacement for a charger that will most likely rip again in the next few months. Please find a way to make a more durable power adapter. If you are going to charge us $80 for a replacement, at least make one that is worth the $80.

    Poor build quality

    • Written by from London

Echoing what others have said in their reviews of this product, I have to say that I am sorely disappointed with the quality of the cable covering, which has now frayed to a point where the cable no longer works and must be replaced. Clearly, this is a fairly common problem as there are products sold online specifically to prevent it; I wish I had discovered them sooner, as this is an expensive cable to replace based on a design that any amount of testing could have identified as unsuitable for long-term use. Very bad form on Apple's part to have released such a shoddy product.

    really?

This thing can't even stay plugged in while laying in my bed with a comforter underneath it. Did they do any real world testing? Jesus I could have designed a better plug.

What an awful design Now on number 3 in <4years.

    • Written by from Newhaven

The cause of replacement number 3 is the useless covering on the magsafe cable end. The slightest pinch in this, usually caused by being laid under the world's lightest computer, and it crumbles. While it's crumbling at one point the sheathing slides up and down, breaking at subsequent points along its length. Which is bad - but it gets worse. You cannot detach the cheap cable from the expensive box of electronics. Seriously guys, 4 years and you've not addressed this yet. Bad design flaw! Get it? Making the product universal with only 1 cable change for the global market is a good idea. Making us throw away a working and expensive box because you can't get a cable covering right is a bad idea. Let me demonstrate:

Let's ask a 5 year old how we could improve that, shall we? How about you makek the cable that disintegrates detachable from the big expensive box of equipment so my replacement cost each year is smaller?

Or do Apple genuinely want to penalise their customers by failing to make the product properly in the first place and then compounding that by charging us unnecessarily for a part that is still working but that we cannot get off the end of the cable to allow us to replace the cable that needs changing? Seriously? Yes, it would still be a pain, but a pain that wouldn't bankrupt me.

2nd charger in two years and I take extra care of my devices. Also maybe create something sturdy at the 'neck' of the charger so it doesnt fray after, I dont know, 2months of use.

    • Written by from Louisville

Absolutely terrible design. The chord is very thin and weak. Mine broke so fast and I take really good care of my things. I had to buy another one and hope that it will last longer than half a year. Things like this make me want to switch to PCs. PATHETIC

    Whose idea was this?!? (CONTINUATION)

    • Written by from Missoula

    ...

    2) The "MagSafe 2," all in all, sticks about an inch and a half out from the side of the MacBook, meaning that, for instance, if you set it down next to a very small stack of papers, the thing gets bumped out, because the papers touched the CORD, and oh-no-no, you can't have that! Don't you know nothing should ever touch the power cord at all, ever, when you have a portable computer?!
SO, I wake up this morning to find that, where I sat my laptop on the couch, it sunk into the cushion the tiniest bit and the MagSafe 2 decided to give up and fall out. Imagine my frustration when I realized that I likely wouldn't have my MacBook powered on and ready for the meeting this morning because it sat without any charge all night.

Basically, this thing, while of a pretty different design altogether, is a regression back to the early 20-oughts' Powerbook charger (you know, the awful round one with the ring of light that told you it was charging; the one where the idea was that oh-maybe-I'll-use-an-entire-roll-of-duct-tape-trying-to-get-this-thing-to-stay-in-the-computer-and-a-whole-other-roll-trying-to-get-the-other-end-to-stay-in-the-wall-and-maybe-just-maybe-if-I-hope-reeeal-hard-it'll-charge-(maybe)?).

Apple, you can do better. Surely Steve Jobs wasn't the only person holding the company up. Try harder.

    Whose idea was this?!

    • Written by from Missoula

The MagSafe 2 is, I believe, proof that, in the last few years, the thought process behind the design and functionality of every product has become more and more incomplete.

Apple: "Let's upgrade the old Macbook charger!"
My response: Wonderful!! Although normal wear and tear has resulted in me going through four separate MagSafes within the span of my old Macbook's four-year lifespan, I loved the magnetic connection; it was strong enough to stay in the computer, for one. Also, it design meant it ran flush to the side of the computer, so it wasn't too easy to knock out, but it was removed easily when you went to detach it, or when perhaps the charger cord caught on something--rather than pulling the whole computer out of your hands/off your lap, the power cord simply disconnected. (This was, I think, one of the primary motives behind creating the MagSafe originally.) All in all, a wonderful design..... However, I am so excited to see what new ideas Apple can put together to create an even better product, one that is so essential when owning a laptop, and one for which the design really does make the hugest impact on one's experience with their MacBook.

Apple: "Here it is! The MagSafe 2!"
My response: Well. Wow. Should I have replaced my old MacBook with a Windows laptop after all? How am I ever going to keep this thing charged?! 1) The magnetic connection is almost nonexistent. Even if nothing bumps it, this thing falls out on its own half the time! (SEE CONTINUATION OF REVIEW)

    Sturdy, but detaches too easily

    • Written by from Sunnyvale

A lot of people say that their chargers have broke, but that certainly hasn't been my experience. I have two MagSafe 2 devices: Mid 2013 MacBook Air and Late 2013 MacBook Pro with Retina display, and both are quite sturdy. I would give it five stars except for the fact that, as others have pointed out, it doesn't take much for the charger to come detached, even just picking it up sometimes... if you're gentle enough it's OK, but it's definitely not as robust as the original MagSafe.

I have two of these one for work and one for home, one of them "popped" after normal use and is still well less than a year old.
The connection also very easily falls out as other users have stated in their reviews.

I never had any of these types of issues with the magsafe 1.

    MagSafe 1 Please

    • Written by from Orlando

MagSafe 2 is the biggest piece of junk. It basically turns my MacBook Air, an actual laptop in the truest spirit, into something I absolutely can not use on my lap. I can not use it on my lap because the power cable is infuriatingly easy to pop free. I suppose I could close my legs a bit so that the laptop can rest a bit better and not have my thigh pop the magnetic connector free, but I'm a guy and that isn't always comfortable. Come on Apple, give us a low profile right angle connector like MagSafe 1. That way you can just leave the jack and reengineer the plug.

Apple, what's wrong with your common sense? Why replace a working solution with non-working and almost unusable? Can't make the charger stay connected. For the premium price I'm paying to you I expect premium quality. I expect a recall.
