    Smart? Cover

I personally do not like the smart cover at all! It only holds by magnets and is always coming off. I'd rather have something that holds it securely and I don't have to worry about falling off all the time. I paid for the leather one but will be returning it tomorrow.

    Hyped

I bought the magnetic cover that Apple made for the iPad in red but felt that the back of my iPad was very exposed to knocks and blows, the out side of the cover was such cheap leather it immediately looked marked and scrappy despite the care I took and the inside was down right absorbent. So I then bought a smart and practical as well as much more ecanomical ordinary leather case that cost me 9 quid and wish I hadn't been conned by the hype.

    no protection at all

I purchased a smart cover with my Ipad 2 , at first it looks good and the design seems innovative. However after only two weeks owning my beloved Ipad 2 I flipped the cover to the back and turned it around to show a pic to a friend and the Ipad just slid off, into the floor, It now has two cracks all the way across the screen. This is not a product I expected from Apple. I saved for well over a year to purchase my Ipad 2 and now I can't afford to fix the screen. I thought at a cost of almost forty dollars, the product should at least not release my $900 Ipad into the floor. Truly disappointed, less in the product than Apple for selling it as a "smart" cover.

I bought this with my iPad 3. It attached precisely as it should. The leather is lovely, and, as stated on the packaging and in the store, the dye can rub off with use. Not that it goes to a natural leather color, but just that some of the red can transfer off of the cover.

I'd readily buy another if I had an additional iPad to put it on.

    Poor case

I used to have this for my iPad and loved it, for about a month before i realised that it didn't hold properly - like so many others have noticed the magnets are far too weak to hold, and that just means it will come off. Then one day the cover got stuck to some metal trays and as i lifted the tray the spine magnet broke free and dropped my iPad 3 foot to a stone floor - bye bye £600 iPad 2, hello £270 repair fee. Along side that the magnets in mine, on the spine, started to break through and caused huge scratches down the side of my iPad. All in all a fairly useless case, and i would advise looking elsewhere for protecting your investment. Practicality wise however it is excellent, just not worth the hassle of a broken iPad.

Don't buy the Smart Leather cover

Very disappointed my leather Smart iPad cover came apart at the metal rod that was used as the magnet to hold it to the iPad. Less than six months of use. Extremely poor quality. Apple can surely do better. I would give this a 0 rating but the minimum stars is 1. It certainly is not worth a 1 star rating.

I bought this cover when I got my Ipad 2, there is not much protection to the Ipad, so I returned it the next day. I bought one that fits like a book cover all over.

    Nice concept, but weak magnets

I loved my Smart Cover, until one day I was unfolding it to close it up again and the hinge magnet slipped, letting my iPad fall off my lap onto the ground. My iPad suffered a small dented corner in the aluminum backing and worse, a cracked screen. Argh! I had come to trust my Smart Cover too much, and it lulled me into a false sense of security. These accidents could have been prevented if 1) the Smart Cover had a more secure attachment to the iPad, and 2) if the iPad was more durable and didn't have a screen going right to the edge. I'll miss the convenience of the Smart Cover, but I'm going to find something more trustworthy and durable.

    iPad smartcover

I AM SHOCKED at the stupidity of some people who think that the smart cover for the iPad 2 / new can be used like a handle! Come on people.... its held on with a think magnet. Its not meant to be a handle. I have tried other covers / cases, and they just don't work as well as the Apple smart cover. For screen protection, and the auto on off feature, this smart cover is the best bet. To keep my iPad a slim and trim as it was DESIGNED to be, I use the Zagg invisishield on the back, and a Splash Masque screen protector (came as a 3 pack). I have 3 iPads set up this way, and no complaints from any of them. The magnets on the cover get stronger the more you use them.... (in case some people find them a bit weak to start). Just remember, the cover is not a handle, or they would have called it a Smart Handle....

Here is what I don't get..... people who will buy the iPad TABLET, then buy some big honking case with a keyboard, and try to turn it into a NOTEBOOK! Come on! Apple has the Macbook AIR for that....

I received the iPad Smart Cover - Leather in Pink and was thoroughly disappointed.

The magnets failed to hold the cover on the iPad and when I tried to stand the iPad with the cover, the cover simply fell off.

I was looking forward to presenting this cover as part of a gift and have had to return it and go look for something more substantial.

I am extremely disappointed with this product.

Be careful with this cover easy to drop iPad

A beautiful looking cover and the send to sleep function and stand function works perfectly.
However when using the iPad as a camera the temptation is to hold case in your left hand and use your right thumb to fire the camera. At some stage you might just let go with your right hand causing all the weight to be held by the folded cover which is held on magnetically. This results in the iPad falling to the ground.
This happened to me but amazingly the ipad fell on a corner and then rolled onto its back causing no damage apart from some scraches. Had it landed on its face I might not have been so lucky. BE CAREFUL.

Ok this is not a protective case it's a protective cover for the screen.
If you want to kick your IPad around buy an Otterbox
It is built for minimalist who do not want to add a bulky plastic case
My second one and I love the product

It's a great cover! Recommendation for those who travel a lot with their iPad, or take it to work everyday: buy the black leather cover. Scratches are unnoticeable and the dye is very durable.

    No Problems!

I have had this cover on my ipad since the day I bought it - release date- and have had no problems at all with it. It holds nicely, although I never expected it to be a handle and have never used it as such. It's sleek and light, functions well as a stand and has never demagnetized nor disconnected from my ipad. I have the red one and would certainly make the same decision to buy it again. I like the organic feeling of the leather and to me the cost difference over the polyurethane (plastic) covers was worth it.

I use my iPad more than I use my iMac. I'm a bit of an information junkie, constantly looking up definitions and historical relevance on the web whenever something I read or hear piques my interest so the iPad resides on the table beside the recliner within easy reach. At least 30 to 40 times a day I'm waking up the iPad using this Red cover. Compared to how dirty my keys are at the computer, this cover is pristine. And folded back on itself so the leather side is facing outward, my arthritic hand is able to hold the iPad with ease. I've not had a problem with the stand collapsing once I realised the correct way to fold the cover. I bought a full hemp case for those times I travel but find I seldom use it as the iPad with Red cover travels well in the bag I use.

    Red Smartcover - Fantastic!

Got this with my iPad white 3rd Gen. Looks fantastic. Read all the lower rated reviews and knew not to mishandle the magnets, which has been reported since these became available so don't understand why the same negative comments still appear. What has not been reported is the rich leather smell. Like an expensive leather jacket! For cleaning, I have Meguiars leather cleaner and conditioner for my car and it works great for this. A little bit of the dye rubbed off, but only on the first application. Plan to do this as regular maintenance like any other fine leather product. Meguiars left a nice smooth, satin and clean surface with more grippy feel than the polyurethane version. Now waiting for the iSkin Solo for 3rd Gen iPad to go on sale. This is back cover (clear is the only way to go to show off the nice aluminum back) also is designed to hold the Smartcover magnet strip tighter. Ignore the lower ratings, get this cover, worth the premium.

    Don't get!

This case was not what I was expecting at all. It doesn't allow support for the upright position. And there's only two stances ("proper typing" and upright) you can only attach it to one side so even the horizontal support doesn't work on some apps that only go one way. You are way better of getting 360 case for so much less money. And lastly the "easy fold" into the triangle positions is awkward when working with the iPad and isn't easy to fold so it stays at all. I repeat don't get this case. No matter what apple tries to do to advertise this as a must have for the iPad; it's not. It's actually quit difficult and frustrating. So you will save hassling and money getting another case which will make you more satisfied too.

Looks like an old book when worn in...

The smart cover is design perfection. I was about to give it only 4 stars for a fussy little detail, but ladies and gentlemen, this thing is sweet. I had my eye on a different color, but a young lady at church (I mean the Apple Store, naturally) in Spokane showed me how one one their in-store-for-use-by-employees iPads with the red leather cover had been handled quite a bit and resembled a leather-bound book. Looks good new; looks even better 'old'. Go see it in person. I prefer the leather, but the polyurethane ones are nice, too. Maybe some third-party company makes a better one than Apple, but I doubt it. Steve Jobs R.I.P. Apple fanboy 4 life, yo.
