    The USB connector doesn't work

    • Written by from Toronto

with most cameras if they are what apple people call 'consumer' cameras, i.e. most cameras unless you have digital SLRs. The connector works with the memory card within camera but have to take out card to insert which defeats purpose of being able to directly connect camera to iPad. Basically, loser connection and I feel the lable of product 'Camera Connection Kit" and user guide included is misleading.

    Connector and Nikon S6300

    • Written by from St Sampson

I bought the camera and connector so that I can review photos on my iPad2 and send some to family and friends while on holiday. Alas the iPad won't download the photos as more power is required. I researched both products thoroughly and found no reference to this problem anywhere. Both products will have to back to Amazon.

    Case and compatibility issues

    • Written by from Grass Valley

I bought this today from the Roseville Apple store. They assured me it would connect without having to remove the Smart Case. That's a stretch. The body of the two supplied connectors are larger that the normal connecting cable, and jam on the case edge. Only works using significant pressure to ensure connection. Case removal is difficult, and obviously raises the risk of damage.
2nd issue is compatibility. While I could use 2 SD cards from 2 separate cameras, the USB connector would not work with my $1,000 Sony SLR. So the only way to support devices like this is to use Windows, a PC and iTunes. Come on Apple, Microsoft XP, Vista and 7 can do all this as standard. Why can't you?

Works fine -- if you can use the card reader one

    • Written by from Alexandria

At first, I tried plugging my card reader into the smaller USB adaptor and got the "This device draws too much power" error. Then I tried inserting one of my SHDC cards (I use PNY Class 10s -- usually the 8 or 16 GBs) into the card plug-in adaptor and it works fine. I haven't had any file name issues as of yet. I actually prefer it this way because now I don't have to drag the card reader along, too. The other morning, I took some pics at the dog park. Later, I stopped at the car wash on the way to work. While I waited, I reviewed my photos and edited the ones I kept. You have to admit that's pretty cool. I think it will make me more likely to grab the camera and take random pictures here and there.

My only complaint is that I would like the option to look at the full-sized image when deciding whether to import a picture. For this reason, I will still depend on the iMac and card reader for processing the complex import jobs. But for quick-and-dirty review/edit jobs -- especially while traveling -- this works pretty well.

Works great, but not with some cases

    • Written by from Hingham

As a whole, this is a great product that works as advertised. The only issues I found were not with the design of the product itself but with the design of 3rd party cases. I have an Incase Convertible Book Jacket that prevents me from easily inserting the connection kit, most of the time I find it easier to remove the case altogether.

    Problems with Ipad 2

    • Written by from 's-Hertogenbosch

On my Ipad first generation kit was working fine, even on the newest software 5.1
Now I am very dissappointed, I purchased an Ipad 2 and nothing works anymore. Looking at info I can see the card reader, but that is all. I tried everything as advised by lot of people, but still no result.
    Any ideas?

    Useless.

    • Written by from Auburn

The USB connector doesn't support card readers that must draw power from the device, and you can't plug your iPad in because the connector is plugged in where you connect your power cable. Apple, it's ludicrous not to have a USB port on the iPad.

The SD card connector will not recognize images that are not 8 characters long and in a labeled DCIM folder, which means SD cards from cell phones and other devices will not be supported, unless you reformat the card on a laptop first.

These are expensive accessories with extremely limited use. Don't buy until you know if they'll perform the functions you require.

    NO image review without importing?

    • Written by from Augusta

Purchased this to review photos on the iPad while travelling, so we wouldn't have to carry a notebook.

Absolutely disappointed that we only get a small thumbnail view and need to import all images in order to get a full screen view.

We just want to review images from the from several cameras with large (8 & 16gb) sd cards; directly fro the sd card. I don't care if there is a small delay to show the next photo ( though our cards are class 6 and 10)

We have had too many hurdles and nightmares with itunes syncing and iphoto library recovery (or lack thereof) and either photo duplication or loss; that we stay as far away from importing and syncing.

All I wanted to do is view directly from the card. Plain and simple. Then when back home copy directly via a card reader to our networked photo drive. No additional importing, deleting, syncing, .... Apple sometimes just has to complicate things and create extra work due to their drive for simplicity and using their own apps only.

Also, the sd card reader should be available separate for $10-15. Have no need for the usb one.

    Will not work will Sony

    • Written by from Sarcoxie

This device will not work with a Sony Memory Stick Pro Duo Magic Gate. I called Apple tech support to find out the bad news. I now have to buy a Sony usb card reader and use it with the Apple usb tha came with the Apple Ipad camera connection kit.

    What's all the fuss about?

    • Written by from Auckland

You can't expect the ipad to drive an attached reader, connect diretly to your camera it works 100%, put the SD card into the ipad connector it works 100%, look on the back of the Connection Kit box it shows you what to do in pictures for those unfortunate enough not to able to read! Get real people I'm a photographer and I love my ipad and I use it every day in my profession it's amazing.

Camera connection kit and Flip video

    • Written by from ROCHESTER

Using ipad 3 the camera connection kit works great with the Flip mino hd 3rd gen video camera. Just plug it in and all the files upload direct from the camera. I also use iMovie. The price is a bit steep at £25.00 but then it's an Apple!

    USB is wate of time

    • Written by from Sydney

$35 AUD for this device which is not worth it. uSB never works always same error message about using too much power. The sd card reader is great, works well and quickly imports all the photos off the card. Apple should ditch the USB and stick to selling the card reader at a price around $20 AUD

    Get it, it works

    • Written by from LINCOLN

I bought a New iPad 3 and wanted to load all my photos on but I never thought about the connections on the iPad, thankfully Apple had and I bought the camera kit today. I plugged in my SD card, slotted in the connector to the iPad and hey presto photos stored ASAP. Amazing tool I recommend it I've never loaded my photos on anywhere so quickly.
