    Not great for creative work

Fantastic for system stuff, and works well with Apple software designed for the mouse, but is awful to use with the creative suite applications. The slightest touch and your document is zooming and moving all over the place.I'm returning mine. No point in spending £56 just for wireless. Oh and the pointer movement is gittery too, making photoshop work a nightmare.

    SLOW

This mouse is pretty cool, but it is very SLOW. I moved the tracking to the fastest setting and I still have to move my entire arm a lot to get the mouse to go from one side of the screen to the other (21.5" imac). Is there any way to speed this thing up a little?

Magic Mouse Scrolls on it's own

I bought the magic mouse when i had my white iMac and loved it, until it started scrolling by itself. I would move my mouse up and none of my fingers are on the top of the mouse and the page i'm on scrolls by itself. After I bought my new 27inch iMac, the Magic Mouse came with it and it does the same thing. I tried adjusting the settings for the mouse, but it doesn't help. Hopefully Apple gets more complaints about this issue and fixes it.

Hot Design, Not So Hot Grip

    • Written by from New York

    pros
    - hot design
    - awesome multi-touch concept

    cons
    - it sits TOO LOW, and does not conform to a natural ergonomic grip. my wrist is hurting after 2 days! (switching back to ergonomic mouse)
    - while the multi-touch is awesome, the fact that i have to lift my fingers backwards to perform the tasks (instead of pressing downwards on an ergo mouse), in combination with the non ergonomic grip -- really aggravated my wrist and fingers in the long run.
    - the "Fast" Tracking setting was just a bit short for my 27" imac screen, so a lot of time, i find myself moving the "heavy" mouse more than comfortable wrist position just to go from one end of the screen to another. the problem is exponential b/c the mouse is SO low profile, that gripping it in entire comfort is impossible. thed tips of my pinky and thumbs are barely holding onto the mouse.

Note to apple...in your video, the demonstrator is holding onto the mouse with the thumb, (sometimes middle finger), fourth, and pinky. umm, i have a normal hand, and those are VERY uncomfortable positions. i find that its easier to use the multi-touch with my index, middle and fourth finger on the surface. otherwise, i cannot send the correct multi-touch signals to mouse (i have to end up holding it almost 45 degrees the way you have it in the mini videos).

Right-clicky is tricky & my handy is crampy

Scrolling is amazing, but I couldn't live with the difficulty of right-clicking. Even if I have the proper one finger on the right side of the mouse, it takes too much pressure to click, and it just feels awkward. Tracking was slow even when set on the highest setting, and as a result I was constantly going off the mousepad with it trying to get from one side of my 30" screen to the other. Ergonomics are not the best – I haven't had my hand cramp up this badly since The Great Kensington Trackball Incident of 1998. I like my Razer Death Adder and Razer Pro Click Mobile mice much better.

    Lousy clicker

While the scrolling feature is really cool, the basic functionality of the mouse (clicking things) stinks. I have it configured as a two button mouse, but countless times during the day a click that is clearly on the left side registers as a right click. And sometimes a click doesn't register at all. Very frustrating!

The real identity of the "mouse"

    • Written by from Sebastopol

While the Apple "Magic" Mouse has some good features going for it, such as lopping off the tail and discarding the connection to the keyboard, there's really no "magic" apparent in its performance. It's proclivities to initiate operations without operator intention are annoying and frustrating. The slightest shift in hand position will alter your desktop view, or zoom in on your work, or scroll down on a document, or pop your pizza out of the oven 5 minutes too soon, for all I can tell.

Apple should rename this magical battery holder the "squirrel," because you just never know which way it's going to go.

    Some functions stopped working

I bought this mouse to use with my Macbook. After a few months of use the scrolling function no longer works. I've tried taking out the batteries, re-syncing the device with my computer and nothing seems to work. I when to apple store for help and they refused to believe me. After syncing it with a store computer and the same issues were present the employee just shrugged and said buy a new one, but I can't guarantee it will work any better. Frankly I'm not impressed that half the functions of this mouse don't work.

Limited gesture support on Snow Leopard

    • Written by from Madison

12 of 16 people found this useful

I'm an interactive media student (basically a design, media production, computer science major) and I've been doing design work on my macbook pro's trackpad. I love being able to work on projects with the gestures at my fingertips, but I needed the precision of a mouse. I thought I could get the best of both worlds with the Magic Mouse. I went to the Apple Store to test out the mouse, but I have Snow Leopard and all the display computers had Lion. I really wanted test out the gestures on my OS and software, so I bought it, knowing I could return it.

Well, I'm returning it. As an overpriced mouse, I expect it to be above average in all categories. When I first used the mouse, the precision was appalling. I fixed the tracking in system preferences; now I would rate the precision as mediocre. My primary qualm with the product is its gesture support. Even in system preferences, you can't add more gestures, leaving you with scrolling and swiping left and right. Basically, the Magic Mouse has the same functionality as a standard mouse with a scroll wheel and buttons on the side. I then compared the gestures to that of the trackpad. Results: trackpad executes gestures flawlessly, mouse was not accurate (moving around within a 2d image does not work so great).

For how much you pay, I'm disappointed by the outrageously priced charger and the poor ergonomic design. I also dislike the hard metal on my desk--I'd prefer the soft plastic pads on other mice.

I'm sure Apple will one day make this mouse worth buying, but until then, I'm going to use a mouse at half the price and equal functionality that feels better to hold. I just can't justify paying more for something that I genuinely feels works less, despite its hypothetically beneficial features.

Battery life is terrible. Lasts about 1 month.

The mouse is a dream in terms of use. But this thing drains the battery life like nothing I've seen before. The battery life needs constant replacement as the average life of the battery is about 3-4 weeks. In other words, you go through 24 batteries in a year. That's really not acceptable.

I'm looking for a replacement. Maybe the touchpad has a longer life.

    Uncomfortable

I have medium/large man hands. I have been using for about 1 year. The mouse is too low profiled proving to be very uncorfortable over the course of an 8 hour day. I see that this is a common problem so I am hoping it is addressed with the design of the next generation mouse.

Also, the tracks on the bottom of the mouse seem to get gunked up causing it to drag.

I could overlook the rate at which it consumes batteries if these other things were not a problem.

    Inferior product

The design and concept behind Magic Mouse are superb but unfortunately the execution is a clear miss. I am not sure how Apple's quality control segment did not mark this one as a failure. The mouse literally behaves how it wishes from day to day. The scrolling is choppy or hesitates and takes a minute to catch up, but the biggest irritation is when I go to use the mouse and before my hand touches it I have already been sent back to a previously viewed webpage. There is a clear flaw in the sensitivity feature. Sorely disappointed.

This mouse is beautiful, and with the right plugin is really functional, but is VERY uncomfortable for every day use, is a little too heavy once you're used to the normal Apple Mouse (mighty mouse) and has done a real number on my wrist in just a few days. It's a great idea, but if you rest your hand on the mouse you'll have problems.

I've had this mouse for several months now, I use it pretty much 40 hours a week, and I really don't care for it. I really tried to like it because it seemed like a great idea, but I find it very aggravating at times. No matter how I change the settings in the preferences, I have trouble with the mouse accidentally scrolling (usually horizontally, but vertically as well) when I don't want it to. I also end up right-clicking when I'm intending to left-click and end up having to actually look at the mouse and click again or just use the hierarchical menu (after I tried clicking at least twice already). Of course, I never liked the mighty mouse either. I am a real Apple fangirl, too, but I've never liked any of their mice and this one is no exception.

After waking my computer, my mouse has frozen several times. AppleCare helps me to get my mouse working again but what a hassle. Bought my first MAC in December 2010 and I have called at least five time with this problem. Two times in the last two days. Now they are sending me a new one as it maybe a defective. You think!!!

Not useful with a Macbook pro

If you want to use it with a Macbook pro while your computer is wirelessly connected to a WiFi router at the 2,4Mhz frequency, then you're out of luck. The mouse will lag, specially when downloading a big file or streaming video.

Also, scrolling can be awkward, specially on a long page.

    Accidental touching makes scrolling annoying!

Like most Mac users I was excited about this mouse! Sadly it has proven to be extremely annoying to use.

While using the mouse within a browser, or any document in which you can scroll, it will scroll away from what you are trying to do with just the slightest brush of a finger. Often it will scroll when just trying to left click.

I have also found that it regularly doesn't recognize the right click. It always feels as though I am a mouse newbie that doesn't know how to use one at all.

I am tech savvy and have been using this mouse for over a year.
