    Beautiful design, mediocre on function.

First off the design is absolutely beautiful. Everyone who sees it just loves the look. Its definitely a mac. However, i only gave it 3 stars because i preform FUNCTION over form. I was disappointed to see that the 3rd and 4th buttons previously found on my mighty mouse are now gone. I got very used to being able to center click and have Expose pop up my windows then click and bam i was there. I still use hot corners but clicking on the fly was much faster. I didn't use the 4th button (squeezing the mouse) too often so I didn't lose too much there. The upgrade from the rolling ball is nice, i used to hate having to clean the mighty mouse ball out all the time. As for the finger scrolling, i find the mouse often lagging behind my swipes. I may be sitting reading an article for a few minutes then by the time i get to the bottom ready to scroll it seems the mouse has "fell asleep" and the first swipe is never recognized, making me have to keep swiping to "wake the mouse up" so it can function properly. The tracking as others have said is for lack of a better word HORRIFIC! I use a 22" Samsung 1920x1080 monitor and i find myself picking up and moving the mouse all the time. Its quite annoying to run out of "mouse pad real estate." This is my main complaint, Apple PLEASE FIX THIS!!! All things said and done, unfortunately i would not purchase this product again, i would just stick with my old mighty mouse.

Great mouse, but beware the following...

If you're upgrading from a Mighty Mouse to this one, be aware that the lower profile of the new Magic Mouse does not fill your palm like the Magic Mouse. This takes some getting used to.

It will kill a pair of AA batteries in a calendar month (around 8 hours' activity per working day. This is also true of Apple's latest 2-cell Alu Wireless Keyboard)

The sensitivity of the touch-surface sometimes makes Google Maps unusable, as the lightest touch causes the map to zoom in/out at a furious pace.

Other than that (and the hefty price), it's excellent. Caveat emptor.

    Painful Edges

I'm an art director, so I use Photoshop.... A lot. Since it requires constant mouse use for making paths and selections, the sharp edges on the sides begin to cut into the side of my finger. I had to switch back to the previous, more rounded version of the mighty mouse. I love the design, but they should taper the corners a bit more

    Love/hate for Magic Mouse

I have 2 Magic mice, 1 for a Mac and 1 for a MacBook, and both behave and misbehave the same. They are sleek and work well much of the time. The wireless is especially nice. They have some ruggedness, as I dropped one with no consequences. However, both lose connection to the computer regularly and are suddenly unresponsive at other times. These episodes of misbehavior seem to be getting more frequent with time. Also, the mice are too sensitive at times. Lastly, the small metal plate on the underside simply won't stay attached. Overall, the Magic Mouse is a great idea, but needs some re-engineering to be more reliable.

I used to love the Magic Mouse...

When I had Snow Leopard OS I loved my Magic Mouse...it worked just fine. But then I upgraded to Lion...and whenever I was on a website, it would occasionally jump from side to side...sometimes disappearing. I went back to to my original corded mouse and what do you know...the jumping and disappearing stopped! I much prefer the simplicity of the Magic Mouse and the scrolling worked great with Snow Leopard...but I just can't tolerate the jumping around and skittishness of sites while using Magic Mouse...I'm ordering a new corded mouse because the scrolling isn't working properly on my old one...

Great Apple Magic Mouse (Except Battery)

This mouse is great. Has awesome features and is lightweight. The only downside is the battery drainage. I have had this for a month and a half and the battery has gone down to 35%. I use it about 4-5 hours per day turning it off after every use.

    Pretty Decent Mouse

I use two Magic Mouse devices, one with an iMac and the other with a MBAir (when at home), both with Lion 10.7.2. In general mouse design works as advertised. Finger swipes work well. Tactile sensation indicating engagement when mouse depressed works well. Device is easy to keep clean.

Durability appears to be an issue with one mouse. The battery cover frequently disengages and and falls off of the iMac mouse, which gets moderately heavy usage. With both mice the double tap zoom feature is broken. A double tap (even unintentional) zooms well. However a subsequent double tab does not zoom out. I end up having to close and reopen Safari to restore the view.

Did not like the form factor at all, too shallow for me. Also could not get the right click working very good. Took it back.

Great mouse, but it eats a lot of batteries.

Mostly I love the performance of the new Magic Mouse, but it has its drawbacks. Occasionally it will page back or forward with the slightest touch, but overall that isn't a big inconvenience. The major downside of this product is that it uses batteries very inefficiently. I've had mine for less than two months and already changed them twice after the originals wore off in about a week. (I see that Apple has added a $29 reusable battery charger to the accessories for the Magic Mouse, probably for this reason.) Though I love the touch-sensitive technology and it works very well, I'd prefer the good old standby USB mouse that didn't create as much waste and expense.

    Battery Eater

The Magic Mouse is really cool. It's fun to use and is very responsive. I particularly like the scroll feature of running a finger up, down, and sideways. My only complaint is how quickly this mouse drains the batteries. I switched from alkaline to lithium and, although the batteries last a little longer, I wish the batteries would last as long as those in my TV remote.

The Magic Mouse is amazing, it works like a charm. However, the battery is draining like crazy when it's lightly used. Even if my computer is in sleep mode, it drains too.

Nice mouse, awful tracking. Way too slow moving from side to side on a 17" Macbook Pro. This needs to be fixed in a software update.

Great Mouse but the Tin can battery door is very cheap.

I will start by saying I ordered 2 online and was excited about their arrival. The first was perfect, nice controls, great movement and controls. The packaging was slick. There in-lies the problem. A strong tape is used to keep the mouse in place. When I pulled the mouse off the sticky tape the back door came off one of the mice and would not go back on properly. This mouse is well thought out but the battery cover is only 5mm thick and will easily deform leaving you in a bind. BE CAREFUL WHEN REMOVING THE BATTERY COVER ON THIS MOUSE! If it bends or breaks you might need magic to put it back on.

    The mouse is too touchy

I have quit using this mouse due to the zooms that occur when I am in Second Life.
I disabled as much as I could through the mouse settings, but it seemed like any little touch and I would be zoomed right out of the sim. I am not using the regular apple mouse either since the scroll ball on all of mine have failed. So I am now using a mouse designed for a PC with a non-touch scroll wheel.

    Nice, but difficult.

11 of 13 people found this useful

The Magic Mouse is a good mouse, that's obvious. It's just really, really difficult to get used to. Even after setting it to detect right clicks without the key held down, it was still very annoying to use. It's no good for gaming, if any function needs the right click, because most of the time it clicks left instead.

It's a good mouse, but it could be a great mouse.

    Trouble

The bottom falls out of the mouse constantly as you work. I spoke with both Apple customer service and Apple techs. No one seemed to care and no one could suggest how to fix the problem. One sent me to an apple store who only suggested changing the mouse. I did so and it is the same. I have tried 3 and they all lose their bottom/

ALSO, my mouse zooms in and out on its own whenever it feels like it. Yes, I am careful how I hold it.

    Battery power

I love almost everything about the Magic Mouse, except that it takes rechargeable batteries. I feel like I am constantly changing the batteries in this thing. I wish the Magic Mouse could be recharged via USB cable, like an iPod. That would make it perfect.

Great Mouse EXCEPT Battery Cover Falls Off Regularly

Purchased about 6 months ago. Best mouse I've ever owned EXCEPT for the fact that the battery cover comes undone at least a few times a week while I work. The fit is much too loose; especially surprised at the design flaw given Apple's attention to detail.

5 Star Mouse IF NOT for terrible battery cover closure design.
