    Garbage

Listen to the other reviews. Try working with a speadsheet and have the thing zoom your sheet 100 columns to the right out of the blue.

I was in the Albany, NY store a few days ago. They have 8-9 iMacs and a few minis. It used to be that only 2 or 3 had the trackpad and the rest were the "magic" mouse. Now, there is only ONE iMac with the magic mouse. I wonder why that is?

Maybe I'm "holding it wrong". This mouse should be recalled. I want it swapped for a wired mouse.

    Pretty bad.

Sure it looks sleek and is nice to use but its biggest flaw is the consumption of AA batteries which are gobbled up way too fast! The mouse likes to randomly disconnect too, depending on the type of batteries used. Why can't it just have a built-in rechargeable battery like the iPhone??

I didn't want to like it!

I really didn't want to like it because of the price and I thought the trackpad on my new MacBook Air would be sufficient. But after a week of use I love this mouse. It is ergonomically superior to other mice I have used and it is really responsive. The built in touch features mimic the trackpad functions and it is super convenient. Besides the price it really is a great product.

Im an Advertising Major so I am always in Photoshop and inDesign, had the mouse for a few days, only used it to browse the web. I have a new Macbook Pro (Bought in Feb of 2013) and haven't encountered any issues with connection or comfort.

    Style over substance

    CONS:

    * Having to lift my left finger away from the left button in order to right-click is incredibly irritating when I've been accustomed to the 'normal' pattern of using mice for around 18 years. i.e. left-click/right-click at your leisure, regardless of whether either finger is in contact with the button area.

    * Battery life isn't fantastic, I got roughly 12 hours per week out of it before needing a recharge.

    * If you require precision, this mouse is not for you. It's sluggish and unpredictable.

    * From an ergonomic perspective, I personally found it uncomfortable to use through my working day. The hand should be relaxed when using a mouse, not gripping it in an awkward fashion.

    PROS:

    * Looks pretty.

    * 360 scrolling is nice to use (although if that floats your boat, you may as well opt for the Magic Trackpad instead).

    ----------

Bottom line: I trialled my Magic Mouse for at least three months, and ended up switching to a bog-standard wired mouse out of sheer frustration. My Magic Mouse now serves as a pretty paperweight.

This mouse is a must have for any mac owner. I have a macbook pro and have found it essential for creating playlists, drag and drop features. if you are put off by the price, my advice is just buy it and you will soon forget how much you paid for it when you see what a fantastic product it it. Thanks Apple!

    Great Mouse, Works Very Well

After reading a lot of the reviews here I'm very confused frankly ...

I bought mine 3 weeks ago to go with my MacBook Pro. I'm a HEAVY user and with the supplied batteries I still have 93% power left in them and they are NOT high capacity batteries, just a set of standard Enegizer jobbies. I have a fistful of very high 2400ma ones that I'm going to start using with this and they should last for months on end.

I have several small Logitech wireless mice that I use with my PC and they EAT batteries in comparison to the MagicMouse.

I have only noticed the mouse disconnect twice in all the time I've been using it so no complaints there either.

In short I love it, it's VERY functional and works EXACTLY as described

    NO STARS EVER!!

This is the biggest piece of rubbish in the history of computing. This mouses loses its connection with my laptop, positioned no more than 10 cm away, literally every single time I attempt to use it; sometime multiple times. I spend more time switching it off and on again, and clicking and moving it randomly until the connection is restored than actually using it for its intended purpose. I have used more disposable batteries in this device alone than in all other battery operated devices in the remainder of my life, and even with Apple branded rechargeable batteries, which I stupidly also purchased, I am constantly switching them. This is the most frustrating device you will ever own!

A lot of people complain about the ergonomics. I've never personally had a problem with the ergonomics because I stop using it out of frustration long before any physical discomfort can set in. The acceleration/deceleration is poor - shocking in fact. When slowing down it's like moving the cursor through lumpy molasses. And then you find you've run out of room and need to pick the thing up in order to continue the movement because you haven't quite reached where you needed to go.

"built-in software lets you configure Magic Mouse any way you want" the synopsis on this site tells us. This is simply not true. For example, the acceleration isn't adjustable in the default settings. Why, why, why? You can change this setting in the terminal which helps somewhat but this doesn't fix the problem of its inexact, jittery movement to begin with. This, it turns out, can be partially remedied with a mouse pad that my 6 year old $15 mouse never needed. I suspect the rest of its jitters is down to the bluetooth connection (an overrated technology if there ever was one).

On the plus side, the gestures work well and it is nice to look at.

Poor, Apple, poor. Your marketing department sure can sell a story though. All style, no substance.

Buy this mouse only if you don't mind troubleshooting, workarounds and compromises.

works ok but battery life is ridiculous

works fine overall, but the battery life is ludicrous

some brand new batteries only last a couple weeks, the best rechargeables fully charged can last almost a month under normal use. You waste a lot of time and money changing batteries

Apple should design a mouse that is more energy efficient--this kind of battery life is ludicrous

It would appear that all the "professional" mouse users really don't know what they are doing. I have used this mouse for years with no problems what so ever. I'm buying another just for fun.

I was sceptical about buying this mouse. I read a lot of good and a lot of bad reviews. Then i decided to buy it and now I love it. (only had for 20 mins) so far so good will see how it performs later on.
    Thank you apple!

    Terrible for spreadsheets

    • Written by from Palo Alto

I really, really want to like this mouse. But it is utterly useless when using spreadsheets. It seemingly randomly jumps hundreds of cells, meaning that I spend more time going back to the desired cell than actually entering information. Terrible, terrible, terrible. I've put my "magic" mouse on the shelf and have mouse a logitech mouse. Not as pretty, but lets me do my work...

    A very good mouse

    • Written by from Dalkeith

I like the touch pad feature and clean smooth profile that remains clean and not attract buildup with time. Using bluetooth means that there is no hassle associated with a USB dongle. I've used a Logitech mouse for years and much prefers the magic mouse in terms of its function and aesthetics. It's been in use for 3 weeks on my macbook pro and it's functioned flawlessly.

When this mouse works it's great but the connection is so sporadic it renders it useless, the bluetooth functionality of both mouse and keyboard leave a lot to be desired, I went back to my old wireless pc mouse and the connection is fine.

    Painful Edges

I'm an art director, so I use Photoshop.... A lot. Since it requires constant mouse use for making paths and selections, the sharp edges on the sides begin to cut into the side of my finger. I had to switch back to the previous, more rounded version of the mighty mouse. I love the design, but they should taper the corners a bit more

I have renamed this mouse the "Phantom Mouse" because it will take me places where my hand did not move it! I am a graphic designer and my job is stressful enough as it is. I don't need this additional frustration.

So thank you, magic mouse. Thank you for making me so utterly and painfully frustrated. What happened to keeping things simple? These "techy" devices are making the simplest tasks more challenging and complicated!

It drives me nuts. The whole page would disappear when I accidentally touched the mouse without knowing it. You don't a jet to take you to the next block. Nobody in our studio likes it. We all switched back to the $10 mouse with a scrolling wheel now.
