    doesn't work

    • Written by from LINLITHGOW

the really annoying thing is that I waited 2 weeks for this as apparently Apple can't supply them, and some of their authorised stores only order on demand. resorted to bidding (and losing) on eBay, and THEN found that an authorised dealer had stock. It came wihtin 2 days.
BUT... it doesn't work. DoA I asume, the monitor doesn't get the signal and there's no mirroring preference, which I assume only shows up when the display is detected. (the VGA monitor worked fine with the non-mini DVI adapter I had with my old iBook.)
This only adds insult to the injury that it cost £20 for something that should really be included in the box.

Excellent... (just make sure you order the right cable)

    • Written by from STOCKTON-ON-TEES

First I ordered 'VGA Display Adapter' by mistake...
Make sure the cable you order is the Correct one for your machine/peripheral.
A lot of these cables look the same in the small picture and sound the same in the description. Check your requirements thoroughly before purchase. (ie - connections for both ends)
I needed to connect a VGA TFT to my iMac, and placed my order for 'VGA Display Adapter'. Which shows on order form as 'APPLE VGA DISPLAY ADAPTER-GEN'. I later found that I needed compatibility for an 'iMac (Intel Core Duo)', returned 'VGA Display Adapter' and ordered 'Apple Mini DVI to VGA Adapter'. Which shows on order form as 'VID ADPT MINI-DVI TO VGA ADAPTER-GEN'.

My new cable works like MAGIC, as I'm sure 'VGA Display Adapter' will for those who need it.
    Customer - Check every detail
Apple - Make the difference MORE OBVIOUS

SHOULD HAVE BEEN A CABLE NOT ADAPTER

    • Written by from BOLTON

This adapter really should have been a cable with a male end for the money and least 1.5 metres in length, instead of the small adapter, where you are forced to buy a vga extension cable. In my case I had to purchase a gender changer to convert the vga extension cable to a male end so it would go into the back of the television. The product itself works fine.

    Works but not durable

    • Written by from Martinez

Mine worked fine but began having problems within 6 months of purchase. The cable has poor connections; you get just certain colors unless you fiddle with it and get it into just the right position Poor quality; not very reliable.

    Works on 13" Macbook but...

    • Written by

I plugged the mini-dvi to vga adapter into my 13" Macbook and 22" vga monitor and...nothing. I called Applecare and they didn't have a clue. Display settings did nothing. The secret: If you choose "put display on the menu bar" and then click on the icon, you get the option of "mirror." "Mirror," as an option, does not appear on the display settings in System Preferences. Bizarre. There seem to be infinite models of Macbooks and iBooks out there and different models work/respond differently to the adapter. And Applecare seems unaware of this. And given what others say, I'll wrap mine in duct tape. It works just fine now.

    mini-dvi to vga

    • Written by from Panama City

Absolutely fantastic. The cord is just the right size and not too short at all. In this case, the shortness is great. I hooked this up from my Macbook to my 19" widescreen Acer monitor. It could not have been easier to set up. Just go to System Preferences > Display, and you're all set. Now with my Apple Remote, external hard drive, and Surround Sound, I have an awesome media center in my room. Thanks Apple!

Does the job well... until it doesn't anymore

    • Written by from Tampere

Attaching an external screen / LCD-projector with this adaptor is one of many examples of excellent usability of Macs I have enjoyed. I have used my PowerBook 12" for PowerPoint, DVD etc. presentations on weekly basis.

The adaptor does not last long, however. Oftentimes my PowerBook sits on a podium with a heavy VGA-cable hanging at the other end of the adaptor, causing the thin wires inside the cord to break. I have worn out three (3) of these, now I need to buy two (2) more to make sure I have one working during a public presentation.

    Does the Job

Does the job well, the small plastic protectors on the tips of the connections are good and keep it safe during transportation in my bag.

    MacBook to Sony Bravia

    • Written by from Headcorn

The design is excellent; Apple have added a short cable to allow for movement and stress rather than create a solid adapter that would put pressure on the Mini DVI port. I have used this adapter to successfully connect my MacBook to my high definition Sony Bravia, (Using the Belkin Pure AV Cable available from Amazon).

    mini DVI to VGA adapter

    • Written by from Toronto

I have a widescreen 20' ultrasharp Dell monitor and wanted to connect my new MacBook to it. The adapter works perfectly, but I have to say it took a bit of looking around to actually set it up via system preferences. I wish though the adapter came with my MacBook. It costs 29$CAD plus taxes. I love Apple products, but sometimes wish there were more more deals on them, especially for students.

    Poorly Made

    • Written by from St. Thomas

Great concept for sure, plugged it in a off I went. Depsite this however, I give it a thumbs down as I am now on my 3rd adapter after the first to shorted within 2 months of use. First symptoms are a blue tinge on the external monitor or some flickering, both of which are resolved with a wiggle of the cable. This however, only works for a couple of weeks until it stops working altogether. I took apart the second adapter after it went bad and you can clearly see where the wiring is coming apart from any bending that may occur. If I could find another supplier for this I would. Not up to Mac's usual manufacturing standard.

    Love it, but...

    • Written by from Pasadena

This is a great product, BUT... after plugging it in, it took me a really long time to figure out how to get it to show my MacBook desktop on my TV. I'm not the most technologically gifted individual, but in case anyone else has trouble, here's what you need to do: Go to System Preferences, click on displays, then "bring displays forward," then click the "mirror" box. Also, in response to that last review about it being too short, this is an ADAPTER, not a cable.

    Cord is way too short

    • Written by from Birmingham

The cord works perfectly fine . The only problem is the cord is only 6 inches long. That is not long enough to do anything with. So then you have to go buy an extender cable thats another $20 when you just bought this cable for $20. So thats minus 2 stars for the lengh of the cable.

Great product, but not built to last

    • Written by from Denville

Bought this adapter with my Macbook when the Macbook was released last year. It has worked great until now, when the monitor starts to fade/flicker and I have to bend the little cable until it stabilizes. Unfortunately, I have not been able to find anyone else who makes these adapters, so I'll have to continue paying $19 every time my adapter goes bad.

imac mini dvi to vga adapter

I really thought that this adapter was included with my macbook, but of course I had to pay an additional $20.00 other than that, everything works great.

    Great.

    • Written by from Lacey

Got it, took it out of the package, plugged my mini-DVI into the back of my Imac, plugged the VGA into a VGA cord (Duh since it's not very long), plugged the other end into my extra monotor that was just sitting around and wow. It was up and running in LITERALLY seconds, easily changed the resolution in system pref. and it works perfect. Yay Apple.

    Works great~

    • Written by from HK

I got this cable together with the Macbook in the early of this year. It works great. I got a very old LCD monitor, but, it still works great!
I can also use this cable to connect to my school's projector! It works just right, plug it in, you're done!

This is just something you need incase you would get a Mon later on, or connecting to a larger display.

    Picture required

    • Written by from Hawthorn East

The product is fine but I suggest there should be a picture of all connectors. There is not much difference in appearance between the Mini-DVI and the DVI connectors.
For some reason, Apple has changed the connectors for Intel MacBooks and PPC iBooks so a close-up view of that end is essential for a purchaser.

    Excellent Service

    • Written by from MAIDSTONE

I checked the customer reviews and found I needed an extra cable. I contacted the Apple Store on the phone, and spoke to an operator who told me exactly the Cables I needed. Excellent service throughout.
