    Fast and unstable.

    • Written by from Brisbane

This product, while extremely fast is very unstable. It randomly disconnects when ever it feels like it. I read all the reviews about phone interference however the problem still exists even when the closet phone was 20 meters away. Do not purchase unless you want a good looking paper weight!

Very fast, but a bit noisy

    • Written by from Newtownards

I've been using the Pegasus Thunderbolt R6 for around 6 months. During this time it has been rock solid in its operation. I'm primarily a photographer and have the Pegasus connected to a Mid 2011 Core i7 Macbook Air which is connected to an Apple 27" Cinema Display. I'm running Adobe Lightroom 4 with a catalog of 180,000 images stored on the Pegasus. Perfomance I/O is absolutely incredible compared to USB 2.0 and FW800.

One of the concerns I had before purchasing the Pegasus is how noisy it would be. I can say that the device is certainly not silent. There is fan noise, but it's not that loud, but it's noticible. However, most of the noise or droan comes from the 6 hard drives and it can
become somewhat annoying after a few hours of constant use. Certainly, if you are used to a quiet environment, then the Pegasus will add a noticible noise to it. I personally only connect the drive when I'm processing images in Lightroom or need to access other media stored on it for longer periods of time.

I have noticed an anomoly with the Pegasus during the 6 months. I don't always have the Pegasus connected to the Air as I've stated above. When I do have, a thunderbolt cable connects to the thunderbolt port on the air. The Cinema Display then plugs into the other thunderbolt port on the Pegasus to provide the display. Occasionally, the screen will not
display anything and it requires that the Air is opened up out of clamshell mode in order
to make the display active again.

Overall, I really like the Pegasus. It has solved my storage needs. It's extremely fast and
provides some redundacy in its RAID configuration, but the noise it produces can become
    annoying.

    Amazing performance

This is a real cool product ....... The performance of this Pegasus product in combination with my iMAC is enabling me to edit and playback my videos without any hickups. This kind of activities were real time consuming in the past ...... I like this kind of revolutionary products, so well done Promise and well done Apple. Keep on going like this.

Do Not Buy the Pegasus R4 8TB RAID

    • Written by from Sydney

I bought the Pegasus R4 8TB Raid from the Sydney Apple Store January 2012. Since day one it would conflict with the iMac. It would often unmount and remount the Pegasus hard drive icon on the desk top. When the iPhone was connected it would conflict with iTunes and the Pegasus.
After 3 months a Hard Drive failed in Bay 2 so under warranty I contacted Promise Pegasus for a solution and tech support… PROMISE PEGASUS ARE THE MOST TERRIBLE COMPANY TO EVER DEAL WITH. They have a dreadful ticket system which is not user friendly and the advice for a solution is backwards. I have resorted to purchasing another 2TB for bay 2 but still it doesn't work properly. I have given up on Promise for support and my Pegasus is now a flashing box that doe's not work. Just an expensive paper weight with flashing lights. I hope Apple ditch Promise and find a better thunderbolt storage company.

    DO NOT BUY THIS DRIVE!!

    • Written by from London

Having read many amazing reviews about this RAID solution I decided to go ahead and purchase this. Having run initial tests with other drives still running mirror back ups of the same files I was happy after a month of hassle free back up to go with just this solution. BIG MISTAKE!! I woke one morning to find all drives dead and having spoken to support was told I would lose data. This as like many RAID solutions is a pile of rubbish. EXPENSIVE RUBBISH!! Being a professional photographer not only am I going to lose images but now most probably clients. STAY WELL AWAY FROM THIS!!!

Very surprised at the negative reviews. System is simply AMAZING!

    • Written by from GUTTENBERG

I bought this from B&H and once you pass the synchronization process (Very long) you are in heaven. I do Video post-production professionally and this system paired with and imac outperformed a 12-core mac pro on a unity network (shared storage for video).
I contacted Promise's technical support in two occasions, once during setup for some guidance and second after a system crash because unit became unresponsive. Their support is impecable. They went far and beyond to find a solution and then followed up with a phone call the next day to share the results they obtained after analyzing my systems data.
Overall, this is an excellent but pricey product. I would definitely recommend this product to anyone looking for performance and reliability.

    Great Product!

I have had this unit for almost 8 months now. It's connected to an 2011 mac mini server. I have had zero problems with it since the day I got it. I use it on a daily basis as a file server and backup server. I have not had the disconnect problems that other people are reporting. The unit is so quiet it is not noticable unless its doing a lot of reading and writing, even then it is still very quiet. I left it with the factory settings (RAID 5) and the performance is incredible. I would highly recommend this unit to anyone looking for a raid storage system.

Good device if it can appear permanently

    • Written by from Taipei County

I don't suggest other users buying this device.

Well, the speed of file transition is really fast, but I ALWAYS disappear on my desktop without any error occurred. It's very unstable now.

Unless the problem fixed, the product cannot be used smoothly.

    Great drive! If it worked.

    • Written by from Wilmington

So I just bought this drive from a Apple store with in store pickup. When I got it home I had to let the drive sync which almost took 24hours. After I had it all setup I started testing it out, I found it was blazing fast and awesome! But after using it for less than a hour the drive in bay three died and dropped out, after making a loud clicking noise. Very disappointing for how much money I payed. Promise needs to ditch the cheap hard drives in this thing and get some that are more reliable. If this thing included more reliable drives it would get a much much higher score.

Still waiting to hear back from the Apple Store about what to do.

Really fast, power efficient, and reliable

    • Written by from Miami

I've had the Pegasus R6 for 3 months now. It has been absolutely rock-solid every day since it got here. The speeds are out of this world. I easily get speeds well over 500MB/sec read, 600+ write in RAID 5, in RAID 1E I got about 250MB/sec, and in a RAID 0 I got close to 800MB/sec with my disk testing apps. It's easy to have multiple volumes and multiple RAIDs going on in the enclosure with great stability.
I was also pleased with its power consumption.
The unit itself is pretty quiet, and is extremely well built. The drive caddies are the smoothest of any I've used.
When I need more storage next (this thing has plenty of room to grow- easy to upgrade the capacity of course) I'll just get another one and daisy-chain them. Fantastic, fantastic enclosure.

    Extremely fast

    • Written by from New York

About 8-10x faster than the Promise SmartStor Raids. Set at Raid 5, you can expect 500+mbps sustained reads and writes. I have it connected to a Mac Mini Server and have none of the disconnection problems reported by iMac users. Faster than my SSD drives.
