With iOS 5 and later you don't have to, it has PC/mac free compatibility, if you wish to put music pictures and other apps on it then it is recommended to sync it to iTunes. If you are starting afresh then you don't have to sync it, just back up to iCloud

When taking a picture, either hold the iPad with little movement possible and wait for the blue square that appears in the middle of the screen or, if that doesn't work, hold down 1 finger in the spot where you want it focused best, like if you are taking a photo of a cat, you might want to hold down your finger on its face. Do this until the blue square appears in the spot where you want it focused, let go, and take your picture.

How big are the video recordings from an iPad mini? For example, what is the approximate size (mb) per minute when recording with the iPad mini?
I'd love to have the approximate mb/min or an approximate size for a 10 min or 30 min video. Thanks!

Is the new iPad practical for classroom use--taking extensive notes in class (with wireless keyboard), preparing Word documents, and presentations?

Because of its size and weight, and - for me - the need to use a keyboard (Zagg) extension, I find it is actually easier to take notes in class with a paper notebook and pen. It is easier to do Word documents and presentations on a full-size computer/keyboard combination. I like my iPad (2) for reading books (especially the inter-active children's book, Brave, which is visually extraordinary), viewing YouTube.com, and playing games. Another drawback that I have with my iPad is that I am not always near a WiFi facility. I tried - and failed - to install a router at home, so I still have to connect to iTunes to download music, etc.
