Macbook Air or IPad for a High School student?
Hi, I am currently in 8th grade and heading into HS next fall. I am really anticipating the move, but am very worried about what tools I will need to navigate through HS, and because I am definitely a MAC and not a PC, I would love to get my hands on some kind of an apple product that will suit me best and run best. In the IPad's case I already have a wireless mouse and trackpad that I could hook up to it and type up documents with, but I am wondering if the IPad will be able to print documents. (I've heard it can only print to certain printers) Another thought I've considered is that I love gaming and surfing the web. These factors including the price difference between the IPad and the Air are urging me toward the IPad but I will also need to get a new printer if I am to do my documents on the IPad, so this will bring me to a conclusion of around $650 for the IPad and around $1,350 for the Air, a $700 difference. So, in my asking, can someone please kindly suggest to me which apple product will suit me best... a MacBook Air, or an IPad 3?

Hey Ben, to answer your question about the debate between the Ipad and the Macbook air it is quite simple. If you are primarily going to be doing school work on the device i would suggest the macbook air. The ipad is great for doing quick emails, playing games, and browsing the internet. But if you want to do a lot of typing, the small screen can be a disadvantage. Also there is no way to hook up a pointing device to the Ipad, so you cannot use a mouse or touchpad. The macbook air will have support for Microsoft office, a physical keyboard, and a pointing device so it will be much easier to accomplish work on it. Now what you can do if you really want to get the ipad as it is better for gaming and a lot cheaper, is grab an external keyboard and an apple tv allowing you to wirelessly hook up your ipad to your TV or HD monitor to type up your homework. This is great for gaming and work alike and it provides a bunch of extra features too. On the printer aspect you will need to purchase a wireless printer that support airprint or you can do it the old fashioned way and email it to yourself and print from a computer. Both are great ways to accomplish what you want. Best of luck.

It depends on how you intend to use it.
Generally speaking, if you need something on the go for office, school or travel and will use it for word processing and internet connectivity with minimal technical work such such as video, audio and graphics editing, the macbook air is best for you especially the upgraded 11". Its small enough to fit anywhere and powerful enough to run most applications.
If you intend to use your computer for video, audio and graphics editing or if you require engineering and medical applications, or in any case requires you to handle large memory space, then perhaps the 13" retina is for you. It doesn't have the DVD slot though but when was the last time you popped a cd into your computer? you can always use a USB dongle as alternative or you can get the slim DVD USB device.
The good thing about the 13" retina is that its slim enough to be on the go and powerful enough to handle most technical applications. The classic 13" with dvd is quite heavy and monstrous when it comes to being mobile. However, its a lot cheaper.- Answered by Sherwin S from Quezon City

The Ipad Charger is 10 Watts the Iphone Charger is 5 Watts.
This means that the IPAD charger will charge 2X faster at 2 Amps vs 1 Amp for the Iphone Charger. Using a computer or Laptop is 2.5 Watts aka .5 Amp max.
All Work for Iphone or Ipad But the 10 Watts will charge the Ipad Faster.- Answered by Ann O from Washington

I think the answer depends on you if you want something small to carry around then Ithe mini would be the best but it for something that you're mostly going to use it home I go with the iPad with the Retina display. If you don't mind carrying it of course the iPad with the retina display can't beat that.

No, the Microsoft office suite is not available for iPad. However, Apple does offer the iWork suite on iPad. This includes pages, numbers, and keynote, and is compatible with Microsoft office documents. They are great, highly recommended apps, each sold for $9.99 in the App Store.

Does The iPad mini Have Retina Display?
It' said it had the same display as an ipad 2 so I was wondering if that meant that it didn't have retina display
- Asked by Brendan J from Weston

Best Answer
The iPad mini does not feature a retina display unfortunately. Retina displays use more power than normal resolution screens (the reason the iPad 3 gets so warm) - so the mini would have had reduced battery life or bigger batteries that would have made the tablet thicker and heavier if it had a retina display.
Hopefully the iPad mini 2 will address this disappointing omission.- Answered by Ashley C

It can, if you download a certain apps like textnow that allows you to text for free and you can make calls if you have credits on the app. They give you at least five free credits which are worth five minutes of talking and you can watch videos on the app to get free credits or you can be credits.

can i use my iphone charger to charge my ipad?
- Asked by John R from Valencia

Best Answer
The iPhone charger will charge an iPad but at about half the rate of the charger that is supplied with the iPad. Lithium ion battery charging is managed inside of the device (i.e.iPad or iPhone) based on the state of charge and the voltage profile during charge.
Think of the following analogy ...
If you are filling identical buckets with two different hoses, one hose with twice the rate of flow as the of the other hose. The bucket being filled by the hose with the higher flow rate would fill twice as fast as the one being filled with the hose with the lesser flow rate. Both hoses have automatic shut off mechanisms that keep the buckets from overflowing.
The same basic analogy holds true with the two different chargers. The battery management circuitry inside of your iPhone or iPad are the automatic shutoff to keep the battery from being damaged by overcharging. Since the iPhone charger has about half the maximum charge current capability as that of the iPad charger, it will take about twice the time to charge an iPad.- Answered by Paul D from Noblesville

Should i get 32gb or 64gb ipad mini?
I have 64 movies and 75 books and some games
- Asked by Kristine A from Kawasaki

Best Answer
I opted for the 32gb model. I have the 64gb iPhone 4s and I have never even come close to filling it up. I have 20 movies, my entire iTunes library (but set to sync at 128 kbps) and tons of apps and I still have 11 gigs to play with. The whole point is to use iTunes to keep your content fresh so you don't leave the same old movies on the device at the same time, you sync what you want. Plus you get 5 gigs additional in the cloud so really your 32 gig is 37 gigs. I think you should save the extra $100 and invest in a nice case, an extra charging cable and whatever else you need. All just my opinion but buy what you want :)
