Apple Earphones with Remote and Mic

Can the Apple earphones with the remote and mic work with my ipod touch 8 GB? I purchased it in august 2009.

i want to use it with Skype and Voice memos.

    yes. you can play, pause, skip song or play previous song or adjust the volume. you can also record with the voice memos and use skype or similar to chat with someone. The only thing you don't have is Voice control
