Is the iPad good for high school and college? If so, which one should I get, iPad2 or the new iPad?

If I'm using the iPad for high school and college, what would be the best GB size that could hold all my material? By material, I mean a years worth of notes, papers, power points, projects, etc... An which iPad would be best for this, the iPad 2 or the new iPad? What does the iPad 2 have that the new one doesn't and what does the new iPad have that the iPad 2 doesn't?

P.S. I still plan on keeping my laptop for massive storage.

The iPad has apps like Pages, Keynote, Numbers etc though which you can create documents like you mentioned. And these apps don't require so much data/memory for each project you created. And you can easily sync your material to your laptop or, may be to iCloud. So 16GB should be sufficient. It is the Games, Video and some Apps that take lots of memory.
Both iPad 2 and iPad 3rd generation are equally faster for processing documents.
The new iPad has new A5X chip, which gives high graphics speed only. Besides it has retina display (i.e. high resolution text/image), 4G data speed plus Bluetooth 4.0, and the rear 5MP iSight camera. On the other side, iPad 2 has 3G connectivity, Bluetooth 2.1, ordinary rear camera that can shoot 720p image 30 frames/sec. It also doesn't have retina display.
Again with the new iPad, you need to consider of high storage, at least 32GB.

    All the best.
