No the Mini has lower specs, that your version, basically it's a small IPad 2 with a few newer components, you IPad 3 is still very good the 4th generation is better, but its not worth the cost/effort to change

Well I'm the same as you, I am a collector and i am also getting the mini. but if a newone comes out I would either trade it or just buy them all!
