Great Case
I bought the dark grey case, the only difference is the color. As they say, "It just works", so buy it! It's the most economical, functional case out there for the money! Only complaint I have in reading these reviews is the fact that some people get confused and write a review for the Smart Cover and this is the place to write a review for the Smart Case.

I love these cases I have one in the light grey and bought my partner one in dark grey, they protect the iPad well, and it looks a nd feels great. I only wish they would make one in bright turquoise, I know I could get that colour in another make but it wouldn't have the quality of these. …

Yes. It will prevent it as long as you don't drop it in a way that the back hits the floor. I have t he same cover and I dropped the iPad on a concrete sideway while walking. The cover prevented the iPad but the cover itself is a little damaged. Nothing much. The iPad fell face down on the sidewalk. But there was no damage to the iPad. :) …
