A Great Way To Display.... Not So Great For A Case

This is an ideal place to display or "hold" your ipad if you have a bluetooth keyboard or indeed just want to show it off and charge it at the same time. It is a little unstable as the iPad is a lot wider than the dock and therefore is can rock if you knock it. You will have to remove your iPad from the case if to want to use this item.

Does exactly what it says on the tin... if you read the tin!

Having taken the time to read the reviews and research what should be a simple purchase I soon discovered to NOT to buy an official case at the same time as the dock.

I agree that apple should maybe not have recommended to purchase the case alongside the dock however these reviews are supposed to be on the dock mainly and not people's inability to not impulse buy at the check out ;)

I bought this as I needed something to hold my iPad up of the desk, to mainly stop me from putting stuff down on top of it!

It does this and still allows you to charge/sync your iPad at the same time with the added connector for speakers if you have use for that function, although your music still blasts out from the built in speaker of the iPad clearly.

It doesn't have the full 5 star rating because of the top point, it doesn't work with the case but apart from that no complaints at all. A nice simple, sturdy base.

A definite purchase for those of you who don't really plan on straying to far from the house with your iPad but don't want it lying flat where some peasant could put a coffee cup down on top of it!

Look before buying an Apple IPAD case

Ok firstly the dock just does exactly what it does and provides a stable charging and potentially an audio dock.

Its sturdy and works well. However it only allows you to use the Ipad in Portrait mode and the only real way to solve this is to put a docking port on the side of the Ipad.

As have many here pointed out the dock is useless with the Apple Ipad case, which is not a fault of the ipad dock but rather a fault of the Ipad case design.

So whilst most people are incorrectly blaming the dock for their problems it is fact the poor design of the Ipad case.

So make sure that when your buying a case for your ipad ensure its going to work with the dock BEFORE buying it.

For those with issues about using the dock with a case.

You should be aware that the iPad should not be charged while in the case since this will cause the battery to be hotter and lower it's life expectancy. You can read about battery life (and removing it from the case when charging) on this very website.

So I think it's actualy less likely that it's a flaw in the case/dock design and more likely a consideration.

    Good Dock

This is a good dock. I use it a lot typing up school papers with my Apple Wireless Keyboard. The only con that I can see is that the stand isn't as heavy as the keyboard dock, so when I take the iPad off the dock the dock comes up with it. I have no problem with taking the case off my iPad because of one word: HEAT. Heat kills your battery life so Apple is really doing you a favor by making you take the case off. All in all a good dock and does exactly what it is supposed to. Good job, Apple.

It's a very good dock but it's just a shame that you can't use it with the official Apple iPad case!

iPad is stable, but cord is too short

The iPad dock looks great. I have it on a bookshelf in my office and have a slide show of family photos running while I charge it, I have had two people who did not realize it was an iPad comment on what a great digital picture frame I had.
My iPad is stable and does not wobble or threaten to fall at all when I put it in my dock. I would have liked to place it a bit further from the outlet, but the cord is pretty short, otherwise, no complaints.

Love the sleek look, but a bit heavy.the only thing I didn't like was that I always have to remove the cover on my iPad so it can sit right on the docking station so it can charge.it shouldn't cost that much either.but I needed it.

    Not A Design Flaw

Apple suggests that the iPad is out of the case while charging it. This is because the heat that is caused by charging the product could damage the battery and other internal parts, causing the product to not function properly. So really apple is saving your iPad by having the iPad not fit in the dock when it has a case on it. So really, apple has thought of pretty much everything in this case!

    Solid Docking Station

Product does what is says. Clean and simple design.. It is a docking station to charge and display your iPad plus you can connect it to some external computer speakers.

And no it will not work a Smart Case. But not sure why you would need the case if you want to use a docking station since most of the smart cases allow you to prop up the iPad.

But i would recommend viewing the product images on the Apple Store site before purchasing the product.

I was hesitant to pick up a dock for my new IPad after reading many of these reviews. However, I did and am now ordering a second dock for the office. I haven't experienced ANY of the problems mentioned in other review, find it holds the iPad very securely, sets it up so that I can navigate at work and have it sitting right next to my computer. Thanks apple for another great product!

I wasn't going to buy this dock, but after finding a random iPhone dock in my house and using it with my iPhone (obviously) I discovered I really like docks.

I was skeptical, because the iPad is much taller than my phone and I was wondering if it would be totally unstable with the iPad. I'm happy to report the dock works well, it is a bit wobbly, and I wouldn't dare try to play a game on my ipad while it's resting in the dock, but for movies, slideshows, or just to make the iPad look nice, it does it's job perfectly, the only flaws are that it's a bit heavy (but that's needed so the iPad doesn't fall over) and that I have to take it out of the case to use the dock. Otherwise, well done Apple.

It's pretty good but at thirty bucks I recommend getting it somewhere cheaper since you can't use it with a case, cant use it in landscape mode, and can't adjust how you want it to be tilted. On the positive side, however, you can use it with some iPods and iPhone also and it makes a great way to some apple products into great alarm clocks. Plus it does everything it says.

Does What I Need It To Do

I browsed through a few reviews on here before deciding to take the plunge and purchase the iPad dock. Although, I was a tad skeptical at first. After using it for about 3-4 days, I would have to say that it definitely does what I need it to. I just wanted something that was attractive looking and held my iPad upright while charging. I was tired of laying my iPad down on a table whenever it needed charging. I can't have any real gripes about the dock not being able to allow the iPad to be docked in landscape mode. That's not the purpose of this dock and therefore I can't give it a negative strike. The gripe would have to be with Apple for not making an extra port on the left/right side of the iPad to allow it to be placed in landscape on the dock. I've seen a few reviews that said the iPad wobbles while in the dock, but I have yet to experience that problem. Also, the whole issue with having to use 2 hands to remove the iPad from the dock is not really THAT big of a dealbreaker. Is it really that bad to have to use 2 hands instead of 1? Now this is not to say that this dock is perfect, but for my basic needs (charging and looking nice in a dock), this serves it's purpose just fine.

A lot heavier than it looks. I get no wobble at all and I like its minimal statement. There will be many additional gadgets and I will probably get some but will never regret having this one next to reading chair.

love it brilliant for a speaker dock. Just put a set of powered speakers in the aux port. Maybe apple should consider making a doc for the iPad with out a case and a dock for the iPad that works with the iPad case. I use it as a photo frame beautiful and watching movies on the tv perfect.

    Can't use them together

I have the dock and like it- keep it in my kitchen and perfect for when I use recipies from my iPad. Attaches easily to the iPad......however, writers are correct in that you can not use the Apple cover with this together. I did some searching and found a much better leather cover, and my iPad easily removes from it when I want to dock it. Too bad Apple did not assure these products worked together - and for that I am disappointed.

    Great on desk charging dock

I love this dock. I set my iPad in it at work and have it connected to speakers. The stand lets my iPad stay charged up while I can listen to music and run the photo slide show. I used to have the Apple rubber case and had to trim back the rubber seam about an inch on either side of the dock connecter hole to get it to fit in the dock with the case on. It worked fine but I sold the case and got an aftermarket one that goes on and off much easier. All in all the only flaw is nothing on the front to hold onto when you pull the iPad off. 'Sounds picky but what usually happens is you get it about an inch off the ground with the dock still attached when you realize the dock is still attached and cocked backwards at an angle so you reach behind and pull the dock off. I'm not sure how much damage to the dock connector is happening every time you forget and it tweaks it backwards.
