Great Sound - Terrible Support Site

    • Written by from West Chazy

Sounds bread; battery lasts a long time. However...

When I first got it, the Big Jambox charged up just fine. Weeks later I need to recharge it. I used the USB cable, which didn't seem to eliminate the "battery is less than one forth charge" report. I wrote tech support, was answered promptly, and realized I should have used the "brick" power supple to charge the Jambox. However, I still couldn't charge it properly.

Today I called tech support, and a friendly technician had me to to the company web site, and led me through a sequence I would never have thought of. For example, click on the little icon of a person (not marked) to log in. Download a new firmware, by clicking on the "audio" icon (who would have known to do that ???).

I still cannot get a charge report of greater than one forth, and plan to call tech support for the third time.

Big sound, long battery life, super easy to use

    • Written by from Sitka

I bought this based on the recommendation of multiple staff at an Apple Store. I use it as the entertainment system on my boat. It has such BIG, rich sound that it is great both in the cabin and out on deck. Used with iPhone for both music and phone calls (a real hands free bonus). I find that I charge it about once a week. It syncs up with the iPhone right away. Worth every penny.

    What a pleasant surprise, wow!

    • Written by from Piscataway

I've been putting off buying a bluetooth speaker to pair with my apple products and one that I could take traveling with me from time to time. I listen to all kinds of music depending upon the mood I'm in and wanted a speaker with a wow factor.

After reading as many reviews online as possible and going to every store having speakers to test, I tried them all and the one that I found to be really impressive was the Jambox by Jawbone. Sure I was expecting to hear a decent sound, but man this little thing gets it done and then some.

If you're looking for a home stereo, hi-fi, club pounding sound to rock a room, then get a home component system. For on the go, the Big Jambox is clearly the way to go.

Pricey, but worth it. Much louder than anticipated whilst retaining a clear sound.

    Not muddy at full volume

I have owned this for 6+ months and am still impressed with the product. It usually sits in an unobstructed space and fills my 2000 sq ft with rich sound. For the initial pairing, it's necessary to get within 30 feet or so of the device. After that's done, I can wander around the place with the iTouch in my pocket.

I played with the speakerphone. Cute, but I don't need that feature. The sound really is robust, and the product is solid. The design is intentionally minimalistic. Looks sharp, but I'd rather the buttons were text labeled.

You will certainly be impressed with the volume this thing puts out! (As far as dynamic range is concerned, well, don't get me started on digital.) I seldom use the battery, but other reviewers are impressed.

I let my mother borrow it for a few weeks. She plays classical and jazz, and was impressed. Note, the iPOD Classic does not offer bluetooth, so she needed to use the included 3.5mm cable.

    Expensive but worth it!

    • Written by from Miami

I was a bit turned off by the price but I loved the design and tested the sound quality and was pretty impressed. Took it home and fell in love with it. Only wish it had an iOS app that I can use volume control instead of having to do it manually. Other than that I have no complaints

    Simply brilliant.

I recently upgraded to a BIG JAMBOX from it's smaller counterpart to use as an instrumental teaching tool. The small Jambox is fine for playing along to backing tracks on quieter instruments (like flute), but when confronted with a saxophone, the Big Jambox is certainly a better option. The volume and clarity is superb and along with the portability, long battery life and easy connection, the Big Jambox has definitely made my life as a music teacher easier!

    AWEFUL!! Do not buy!

    • Written by from Winnipeg

Terrible terrible purchase. Downloaded the update and still aweful. Sound quality is atrocious. The $50 iHome portable speakers were significantly better sound.
    Also, it skipped.

The only upside is it was easy to set up with bluetooth.

    Do not buy.

    Great sound and battery life

    • Written by from Oundle

I have had a small Jambox since it was launched and it is the best portable speaker for traveling ( several friends bought them once they heard mine) however once I heard this big one demo''d I realised this one, with its much fuller sound and range is best for around the home or office.I tried listening to the Bose sound link too, but found that much more boomy in the bass. The big Jambox is not cheap and is much bigger than the small one from a portability point of view, but for moving around the house or garden it offers great sound and the battery is every bit as good as advertised. Pairs to both my iPhone and iPad effortlessly.

    The Best of The Best

    • Written by from Bronx

This is the best Bluetooth speaker I've owned. It's for ppl like me who listen to Dubstep, Rap, Electro,Drum n Bass. This is the best way I can describe this: if you are a fan of Skrillex, Monstercat Media, Foreign Beggars, Deadmau5, Drake, LiL Wayne, Rick Ross, and many others, then this speaker is perfect for you.

Please keep in mind that I really only listen to bass heavy music so I wouldn't really know how it performs softer sounding music.

The Big JAMBOX is bad to the bone!!!! I' m so happy with this that I want to go out and buy another one. Everything I want in a portable speaker system. Very simple to get started, just open the box and plug it in and sync. Great sounds that would filled the whole entire house.

I had the smaller version for 2 years and loved it although the volume was a bit low. This however packs a real BIG punch with superb clarity and base. Everyone should own one!

    Much Better Than Expected

    • Written by from Lewisville

I received the Big JAMBOX as a Christmas gift and really had no expectations for it as I was unfamiliar with it. From the time I paired it, I have used it almost daily. It has a full sound that fills a room, the clarity is awesome, and it pairs with everything I have although I primarily pair it with my iPhone through Bluetooth. Even better is that there are other options to use the speaker with devices that don't have Bluetooth capability. I was a little concerned with how much it cost, but after finding out it was on sale for $50 off the original price I now think it was a no brainer. You cannot go wrong, the Big JAMBOX is multiple and versatile in its use.

Jambox Wins Hands Down on Portability!!!!

    • Written by from Keppel Sands

Most people are going to be confused when choosing between this and the Bose Soundlink 2...

The 2 biggest deciding factors for me to choose between them was the fact that this product was being purchased for sound quality and portability!!!

1 . Sound quality: without wasting to much time!!! This unit is just as good if not better than the Bose unit when it comes to sound... There was not enough difference here between the units to finalise my decision on purchasing...

2 . Portability: again without wasting too much time.. Even though both units have great battery life, The Jambox can be charged using the supplied micro USB Lead if connected to any 12v / 240v USB power source.. Where the Bose unit has to be charged using 240v mains power and battery life is relied upon when away from a mains power source.

Ultimately as this unit will for me be used while on the road and camping the portability of the Jambox finalised my decision for me...

I took the unit camping in far north Queensland for 7 days used it every morning and every evening a few hours at a time and charged the unit for about an hour every 2 days using my iPhone car charger and it never once looked like running out of battery power..

Great product worthy to be sold on the apple store!!

Great speaker but not the prettiest

    • Written by from Taunton

I wanted a bluetooth wireless speak to be able to wake up and just press play on my iPhone 5 or iPad Mini and hear great music from a wireless speaker. I was set on the Bose Soundlink II but upon testing them both out I felt the Bose was flat and didn't go very loud.

The Big Jam seems to have more power. It was also very very easy to set up and now my iPhone 5, Mini iPad and MacBook Air is linked to it (it can remember up to 6 devices). When friends come over they can easily link up their bluetooth enabled Smartphones to play music from their phones too.

I also like the long battery life (over 12 hours before it near empty!). It has controls on the top of the speaker but you can control volume and next track etc off your device. Your device also has a battery bar for the Big Jam.

Sound quality I wouldn't say it excels at anything in particular, it just does everything pretty well.

In my opinion the biggest let down is the aesthetics. To me it's just a grey block / brick. Not very appealing compared to the Bose or a B&W for example. That's why I have rated it 4 out of 5 stars. Overall, it's a great speaker though!
