I used an airport express to connect my Samsung HDTV wirelessly to the internet.

The HDTV I have only has a (wired) ethernet port and so needed connection to my home network (and thence to the internet) via an ethernet cable.

What I did was plug the Airport Express into a wall socket near the HDTV and ran an ethernet cable from the Airport Express to the HDTV. I then linked back to my home router via the Airport's wifi .

Effectively using the Airport Express to wirelessly extend a wired network connection.

I also have a Mac Mini (Server) installed on my home network in another room some distance from the HDTV with a DLNA server on it - I was able to stream audio/video to the HDTV across the wireless link.

I get a lot of wifi interference where I am, there are a dozen other wifi routers nearby, so at times the streaming quality across wifi was poor. I eventually replaced the Airport Express with a pair of wall plug type ethernet devices and use the Airport Express now to extend my existing wifi router service range.

  • No. All you need to connect your Mac mini to an HDTV is an HDMI cable.
