Learn more about AirPort Extreme

  • Ultrafast 802.11ac Wi-Fi.

With 802.11ac technology and a powerful beamforming antenna array, AirPort Extreme gives you up to 3x faster Wi-Fi and a stronger, clearer signal.1 And because it transmits at both the 2.4GHz and 5GHz frequencies at the same time, your wireless devices will automatically connect to the best available band for the fastest performance possible.

    Designed with performance in mind.

With the antennas at the top of the elevated design, AirPort Extreme now has a higher platform for dispersing the signal. We also increased the number of antennas. There are now six of them — three for the 2.4GHz band and three for the 5GHz band. Together with 802.11ac technology, they let you connect faster, farther, and with more power than ever before.

Easy setup for iOS and OS X.

Connect your DSL or cable modem to AirPort Extreme and use the built-in setup assistant to create your new wireless network in just a few taps from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch. If you’re using a Mac, use the built-in AirPort Utility. Setup is just as fast and just as easy.

Share your hard drive or printer.

AirPort Extreme can turn any external USB hard drive into a secure drive you can share across your Wi-Fi network. So all the documents, videos, photos, and other files instantly become available to anyone, Mac and PC users alike. You can even connect a printer and share it wirelessly.

    Compatibility and security.

Any Wi-Fi device you have will work with AirPort Extreme. That’s because it’s compatible with devices using the 802.11a, 802.11b, 802.11g, 802.11n, and 802.11ac specifications. And since AirPort Extreme features a built-in firewall that protects your network from malicious Internet attacks, you can enjoy the web with peace of mind.

Just replaced my AP Extreme (Gen 5) and compared to that its much faster. Range wise, I haven't found much of an improvement, but then again it could be my house. I still have to use another AP EXPRESS to extend my network in my house. Simple to set it up and looks good too.

I have a huge home all on one level so I have a couple of Airport Expresses around the house as well - newer versions that do not plug directly into the wall. It took me about 10 minutes to go from old to new with great signals throughout the house. The newer version seems to be much faster than the older one. Love these guys and would recommend them to everyone that needs to upgrade a home wireless network system no matter if you have Apple products or not. I have an old Windows PC and it also operates faster on the internet with the newer device. Worth the money in my opinion. By the way, the older version may have dropped off the internet once or twice in 5 years?? Been so long since it happened I do not remember. LOL!!

I wanted to improve the range in my home as there was a bit of a black spot and dropout point in my study for my iPhone. I now have good coverage all over the house (minimum 2bars) and the speed has also improved on early evidence. Setup ridiculously easy. Turned everything off, unplugged homehub, plugged cable from Openreach modem into Airport, turned everything on and followed procedure on Mac. Less than 5 minutes. Note, you will need a seperate modem with this product.

We have a house full of apple products, 2 mac book airs, 2 iphones, 2 ipads and an apple TV. figured this would be a great new router. This device will not connect to our less than 1 year old cable modem. We had reset the cable modem multiple times as well as left it unplugged for a good 15 minutes before plugging it back in. at one point i was able to get access to the internet through the device, but only on my macbook air. the iphones said they were connect to the network, but they had no internet access. Seriously Apple, this is unacceptable.
