Reviews for iPad mini Smart Cover - Light Grey

I have the smart cover for the iPad and mostly love it but the smart cover for the iPad mini is completely useless. Due to the size of the mini and only having 3 panels in the cover (4 on iPad) it does not hold together well and is always collapsing. The hinge has some flex in it so slides around a lot, if I were to keep this I'd be inclined to get some kind of elastic band to hold the whole thing together. I've decided instead to go with an origami case from another manufacturer and find it so much better!

Tried every kind from bargain ultra slim PU covers (they crack) to fancy leather upscale book types. (Too heavy). Now that I'm through the gamete, what am I back to? Apple Smart Cover. It's really all and everything you need guys. It may be pricy but I've spent more money trying out all the different types. All I'd recommend in addition, is an envelope zipper pouch for travel if its going to be bouncing around in a bag and a skin for the back if you're really paranoid about scratches. (I don't cover the back and it's still scratch free). Stays on, flips over to hold and warm your hand while reading, stands fine in both modes. Doesn't come off unless you take it off. Only problem is I wish there were more "grown up" colors.

Looks nice and iPad stays lightweight and thin but the side magnet doesn't hold when you tip the pad. Also no protection on the back allows for scratching when you place it in your purse/bag etc. I will look for something else.

Nowhere as good as iPad cover. Folds in wrong places, doesn't hold iPad mini up for tv viewing, far to low an angle for typing. A complete waste of money

I chose this because I used a smart cover on my old iPad 2 and really liked it. This works very similarly but there are a few key differences worth bearing in mind:

- It is far more slippery than the full-size smart cover. If you place your hand on it, you can slide it about all over the screen. When it is folded behind the iPad, it also slips about all over the place. This is I think because there are fewer and/or weaker magnets holding it in place.
- The cover has come off quite a few times when opening/closing it accidentally in an awkward angle.
- The light grey one I have has become VERY dirty very quickly and faint shapes of the magnets inside it have all become visible on the surface. I don't really mind because I'd rather the case got dirty than the iPad, but bear in mind it will look mucky quite quickly.
- When in landscape mode and folded into the triangle, the angle is very low and due to the way it now folds, it tends to fall flat much easier than before. It doesn't seem as sturdy.

Basically, it does the job and if you just want a simple cover to protect the screen then this is perfect, but it is not as good as the full-sized one and is much flimsier.

Pretty disapointed with this cover. It is just a screen protector that doubles as a stand. While using as a stand, it is unstable. For protection, you are better off buying a full wrap around case. I would have returned it, but I bought it right before traveling and needed something to protect the screen while in my brief case.

I didn't know the cover was differeent from the case. This cover to a waste. I paid $39 for it. Now I have to buy a case. Because the cover offers little protection when you drop your iPad mini, also it doesn't lay perfectly straight and the cover falls off if you try to lift the device by the cover.

With my iPad original, the case was great and I thought I was buying the same thing here, but, my own fault for trusting.

Don't buy it.

I wish they made it so that the cover wouldn't keep coming off. It only attaches via a magnet so more often than not, when you're moving your ipad or trying to fold the cover to prop it up, it just comes off. Kind of disappointing for a $40 product. On the plus side, it does keep your mini light and thin and the "smart" idea is innovative.

Just like the Big brother IPad smartcover but only smaller. Love it!!
