    Fix please

    • Written by from Del city

This does not work when you have a case on the phone. I have a 6 plus with a fairly thin speck case and I have to take it out of the case to use it. Might return because it is not convenient. They should have made the stem of the lightning connector longer or something so you wouldn't have to take your cover off.

    Great service, works with JBL

    • Written by from Enebyberg

Considering I just bought an iPhone 6 and had a 2012 JBL speakerdock, I needed to get an adapter to be able to continue to use it. I read all the (many) negative reviews on the site and thus was not sure if I should buy one. I went to the Apple store in Stockholm explained the situation. They said I could buy it and if it did not work I could just bring it back. I bought one, put on my JBL speaker dock. Works just fine. Charges and great sound. So if you do want to get stuck with a useless adapter buy it in the Apple store instead of via a big online retailer. That way if it does not work with your speaker dock you can just bring it back.

    Too Short

    • Written by from St. Paul

I bought this so I can continue to use with my current docking stations. However, if I want to use it I need to take the case off. The stem is too short. The price also to high for not being very functional.

    Won't work with protective cases.

    • Written by from Chester

The adaptor worked when my iPhone 6 had a cheap, thin, un-protective case. When I purchased a better, more protective case, the adaptor was useless. I don't know if apple makes an adaptor designed to work with Lifeproof/Otterbox cases.

    Useless

    • Written by from Yakima

Can't connect to existing 30 pin cables (displays incompatibility message on iPad).

Retail box gives no warning that the adapter is not useful foe anything. Also does NOT come with a booklet or instructions????

    Don't waste your money

    • Written by from Belfast

I bought the camera and HDMI adapters just before Apple announced they were changing the charging ports. I have only just changed my devices from 30pin to lighting because I had these and a radio that again was bought three months before the change was announced so held onto the 30pin devices as long as possible before they (inevitably) failed and were changed.

The generic adapter doesn't work with either of these two 30pin adapters with my iPhone 5s or my iPad mini (where applicable). The whole point of this is that you shouldn't find yourself with items that are now useless, but I guess Apple aren't concerned with making products that actually do what they say they will.

Works with iPhone 5s to Arcam rCube, rWand and VW Media-in connection

    • Written by from Burton-on-Trent

Just upgraded iPhone from 4s to 5s as don't like size/weight of 6. Hope I don't regret that too soon! Anyway this connector works fine with direct connection to the (now deleted) Arcam rCube and the phone is supported well enough unless you are going to throw your shoes at it! I can confirm it also works using the Arcam rWand over it's Klear streamed connection. I have just tried it with the 30-pin VW media-in cable in my 2011 VW Golf Estate and it works as well as the original connection ever did ( ie not perfectly but well enough). So I hope this helps all you rCube lovers as I could find nothing on this before now and I know this contradicts other reports about the VW Media-in connection. The Lightning plug is reversible in use, but remember the 30 pin end is not!
Loss of one star as the price could have been sold at a loss by Apple even though I think it contains a DAC - for goodwill reasons; and I wonder if they considered a more stubby, strong adapter without a DAC but including a jack connection to the jack socket triggered to produce a line out analog signal through a 30 pin socket.

I purchased one of these and didn't think about the design until I got it home and put it on the docking station. I tried to plug my Iphone6 in but it wouldn't fit. Yes, I had a case on the phone and the lightning plug is too short. You would think that apple would have tested this but I guess not. Good idea but not functional.

Using this on a dock. Doesn't work after 5 weeks.

    • Written by from Gig Harbor

The remote control dock is 30 pin and requires the adapter for my ipod. It was working great for about five weeks. Now the audio will only come out of the ipod and not the dock. I tried a different ipod with the same results. Apple will not take it back. Warrantee must have been for 30 days. :(

    Too bulky

    • Written by from Flushing

I bought this adaptor because I didn't want to spend a small fortune buying additional accessories for my new iPhone. I'm glad I only bought one, because it does not fit the Otterbox my phone lives in. I can't even properly review it, because I can't use it at all unless I take my phone out of the case, and I'm not doing that.

The lightning cord is too short to connect if you have a case (any case)

    • Written by from Houston

Like 250+ people, I have found this to not fit into my phone if it has a case on it. I have an Otterbox, a slim-fit Luvvitt, and a rubber Kate Spade case, the lightning connector will not fit into any of them (the Otterbox and Luvvitt being the worst fit). For the record, though the width of the pin is 1/4", the width of the case is 1", so any case that has an adaptor opening of less than 1" will prevent the lightning pin from securely fitting into your phone.

If you don't mind taking the cover off your phone every time you need to connect it, then this isn't a big deal - I don't like to do that, so I'm going to return this.

    Great accessory!

    • Written by from Wodonga

I recently purchased an iPhone 6, upgrading from an iPhone 4s. I have a Panasonic docking station/radio that worked great with my 4s. I was worried about purchasing this product due to a lot of reviews saying it wouldn't play music or charge my phone.

Definitely not the case with me, I got it today ( 5 days after ordering) plug it in and it works. Plays and charges great! Admittedly I don't have a case yet, but taking my phone out of the case to use my docking station doesn't bother me as I had to do that with my 4s. Overall I'm happy with it, but the price isn't so great, but I would rather by a genuine apple accessory, than a cheaper one and damage my phone.

    Questionable Usage

    • Written by from Houston

What's wrong: If you have a case for your iDevice, it most likely won't fit unless the case is super thin.
Adapter or lightning cable: The price for the adaptor is $29. The price for a lightning cable (1m) is only $19. But you may also need an extra USB power adapter which costs also $19. So why get this adaptor? It only makes sense if you cannot or do not want to switch cables and access the power adaptor (since it may be hidden behind your desk) all the time. I'd rather suggest to get an extra lightning cable and invest in an additional power adaptor (total $38). It's worth the extra $9. You will be much happier!
If the lightning bit were sticking out just a little bit more, it would not be a problem with the cases at all. Not really a practical design.

    Great Design ... but

    • Written by from Sheffield

As usual, a very soldly-engineered product from Apple.

Does exactly what it says on the tin - but ...

    1) VERY, VERY EXPENSIVE for what it is. £10.00 would be reasonable but £25?!?

    2) As others have mentioned, the adapter takes NO account that you may have a protective case on your iPhone/iPad. When trying to charge my new iPhone on my 30-pin Pure Clock Radio, the adapter fitted fine, and so did the iPhone on the adapter but the fact that I had a protective case on the iPhone meant that the connections on the adapter didn't make contact with the contacts in the phone. I had to take the phone out of the case in order to use the adapter to charge the phone.

So, lose 2 stars for horrendous expense and a further star for the lack of thought regarding the use of the adapter with an iPhone/iPad which has a case fitted. result - 2 stars.

Does not work with iphone 6

    • Written by from New Westminster

I just upgraded from an iPhone 4S to an iPhone 6. Both my car (brand new 2014 VW Passat) and my speakers have the 30 pin connector, both of which not only playedmy iPhone 4S but charged it too. I bought the adapter so I could connect my new iPhone 6 into both of these devices. As soon as I plugged it in (once I took my phone out of the case because the lightning end is too short), I got the following error message, "This cable or accessory is not certified and may not work reliably with this iPhone." No only does it not work unreliably, it doesn't work at all!!!. I spent $35 for each one (bought 2) and the guy at the Apple store obviously didn't know they wouldn't work because I told him exactly why I was purchasing them and he said it was a great idea. I will be taking them back. Come on Apple, don't just upgrade your computers and phones, upgrade the devices you sell to use with them that have your brand name attached to them!!

    Small but mighty !

    • Written by from Sheffield

I purchased this fine adaptor, earlier today, there are many, reviews,of this item, some favourable and some not,all I can do is give my honest review.
Many complain about the price, however few people realise just what this adaptor,is or does ! For a start, this is a DAC,and IMHO for the money an amazing product, the old 30'pin connector was analogue, the new lightning connector is digital, therefore, the signal must be converted from digital to analogue, most people won't hear, nor will ever hear just how good this tiny connector is,in my system, adapting an Arcsm r- Dock to use with my I pad mini the sound is sublime,it is boosted further by being connected to a Beresford Bushmaster Dac,itself powered by a very large expensive power supply,
The combined results are amazing, via Spotify Premium,I could be fooled into thinking that I sm listening to my very expensive valve powered CD player, such is the performance.
A stunning product, which when used correctly is state of the art !
    Highly recommended ! Steve.
