Got this on Wednesday and connected to my 30 pin end ,charges my phone with the case on I do't know why these people complain, if you buy a cheap case you will have to take it out of the case to charge I have an Otterbox Defender case, got to 2 adapters one for the car.
Great product I recommended to a few friends!!!!

    Quality Adapter

    • Written by from Queensbury

This adapter is small, easy to carry with you, and will give you the ability to use all of your old charging cables. It's very well made.

    Works well with slim covers.

    • Written by from Washington

Contrary to the reviews I've seen, I have had no problem using this while having a cover on my iPhone 5. I use this adapter specifically so I may keep using my car XM Skydock (love it) with my iPhone 5 that I alternately use both an Elago Slim-Fit Case and Incase Span Case on. I have no problem whatsoever with the adapter fitting snugly.

My only criticism is that I wish the adapter was a bit shorter.

    expensive for what you get

Works fine with my Bose sound dock, but I cannot believe this piece of plastic and glue cost me $35. Wait for alternatives if you can.

    Poor design

    • Written by from Clarkston

Purchased (3) of these so I could continue to use my existing car charger, 30 pin connectors/chargers in the house because my family has multiple iPads and whoever designed this did not take into consideration any type of case, be it for the iPhone or the iPad.
I'm usually very impressed with the thought put into anything that Apple designs but they sure missed the boat on this one.

    missed the boat

as others have written about; this adapter fails to be compatible with most iphone 5 cases manufactured by well respecters companies. I had bought two of these adapters and had to return them as I didn't feel like cutting the opening of my case (iSKin in my case). They should have made the lighting tip longer to compensate for case thickness.
Do yourself a favor and get the adapter with the cord. It actually looks less bulky and no case modifications needed.
Lowering the price of these adapters wouldn't hurt either!

Avoid this adapter -- buy the one with the cord instead

I have a speck case and the only way I could get this adapter to work was by removing it from my phone. Buy the adapter with the cord instead -- it works perfectly.

    Adapters work fine for us

    • Written by from Lititz

We bought 6 of these...they work fine for us and we have the Ringke slim cases. If your case covers part of the speaker or headphone connector it may not work. I wish they came in black and white.

Works as advertised for the most part.

I have used this adapter with numerous chargers and docks. It works with all the chargers (car, wall, as well as external battery booster from Griffin) One of my older clock radios by iHome would not work properly - it would charge but the controls on the radio would not control the music functions on the phone. The adapter makes the phone much taller so some of the docks may not support it well. In some cases it looks like it will tip over any second. (That has not happened yet.) It works well with my case since my case has a large opening on the bottom. As with all models before 5, there are plenty of cases out there that will not work well with many docks or connectors. If the foot print of the adaptor were any smaller it would not work with any of the docks out there and I believe that is what Apple intended it for.

Works Great with my iPhone 5 and OtterBox case!

I now can use my iPhone 5 with my various iHome devices. All my 30-pin cables for my 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th generation iPods, iPads, and iPhone 3GS can be used with my iPhone 5 using this adapter.

    Happy Happy Happy!!!

    • Written by from Northridge

When I received the IPHONE 5 I didn't realize that it would need a dock adapter...I first ordered thru Amazon (as they were cheaper) but a week later they refunded my money due to inability to "complete my order" - in other words, they didn't have the product! Fortunately I work down the street from an Apple store and when I called, they had the dock adapters...my concern was that would it hold secure - yes it does...other concern...my phone cover - I purchase covers where it does not block the connections to the adapter or headphones...I am a happy customer...

    Stop complaining

    • Written by from Chugwater

For those who are having a fit about the connector not working with a case, how do you expect them to make something that will work with every single case out there? They are all different! Stop being lazy and take the case off or buy more 8 pin connectors and come into this decade of apple products with the rest of the world!

    Works but ....

As a converter to change an original Apple 30-pin charge/sync cable to Lightning it works well. At least until until you try to connect it to an iP5 in a case, then not so much.

As a converter for dock-type 30-pin connectors it is sketchy. The plastic that surrounds the 30-pin connector to form the "socket" is thin-walled and flexible. Not very robust. For dock accessories without a rear support your iOS device wobbles precariously in space. The lightning connector has very little surface area to support and lock in. Under the weight of an iPad ... doubtful. Next gen docks (if any are released) will need to be substantially redesigned to properly support iOS products with Lightning connectors.

What makes iPhones and iPads useable given that they don't have replaceable batteries is access to lots of charging options. You know if you use your iOS device heavily that recharge power is not optional. Access to 30-pin power was becoming almost ubiquitous. Now have to carry an adapter or length of cable around at all times, at least for the foreseeable future.

My suggestion is to go with the 0.2m adapter because it will work with cases and won't stress your older docks or the Lightning connector on your new iOS device. The 0.2m cable isn't "Apple sleek" but it works.

Doesn't pass audio to my Sync in 2011 ford flex

    • Written by from Wake Forest

I bought one because I have a 5 and my wife has a 4s. That way if we wanted to listen to music on my phone I could just plug that in and use the same cable. It recognizes, charges, and lets me control it but no sound at all. It's not the phone if I put the regular cable in it works fine, but this adapter means no sound which makes it useless

Also, it's really tiny. I think the picture is bigger on my iPad screen than it is.

I use this with my SONY charger stand/alarm clock base (made for the iPhone 4/4s and iPod). I never have to take my case off--and it's a thick leather case. I'm not sure what kind of cases the users who reviewed this before me are using. To me, it sounds like they just needed to complain about something.

Not a quality solution- poor sound quality

    • Written by from Washington

If you have a car and or sound accessory that used the 30 pin connection get ready for a reduced sound quality experience. From Apple I expected more and frankly for $30 it should work perfectly. Wasn't the idea to move to a better/ digital experience with thunderbolt connection? Also, my home JBL iphone accessory has a slight buzzing sound during playback.
