It works fine - but overpriced and uncoordinated

The adapter works just fine with my speakers/clock radio. However I am very unimpressed with this product in general as it looks awful plugged into my speakers/dock being white when my phone is black and my speakers are black.
I also think it is ridiculously expensive(£25) for what you get, it must cost very little to produce this item. For that price I would atleast like a choice of colours so that it matched my phone/speakers.
But functionally, I have no problems at all, it charges the phone and plays music perfectly through the speakers.

I drive an Audi Q7 with a connector cable in the glove box. I purchased the adapter so I could charge my iPhone in the car. The connector does not stay in place and has to be held at an angle to actually work. I tried 2 adaptors and both had this problem. Very frustrating. I am going to try the cable adapter and see if this will work.

If you would like to take your case off your phone every time you want to use it, than this will prob work for you... did not work for me though. I wish I would have had a change to read all these other reviews before... I am returning this and getting the adapter with the cord.

It works when Iphone has no case. Why not add to the design that the pin can be pushed out more? And why does it not come with the already expensive phone. OR be at a basic token price. It's you that changed the plug design Apple so don't penalise the first users of the very expensive product we've all bought into. It can't possibly cost this much to produce.

I use a Monster FM transmitter (through the power supply, not the headphone jack) to listen to Internet radio in my automobile. Works perfectly.

I should have read the reviews! Buy the USB to Lightning cable instead.

This doesn't work if you use a fairly protective case. This is useless. It’s also a little chunky and fat. Why don't they make these cables and adapters in black? I took this back to the Apple store and was able to get 2x USB to Lightning cables (in stock) for 9 bucks more. Not bad. I just wish the cables were black.

Thunderbolt - a new band waggon for a new accessories industry

    • Written by from Fareham

I'll try to be objective...I upgraded my iPhone 4 to a 5 and my iPad 3 to a 4 ..I like to keep up with the latest technology so I knew that I'd have to buy one (actually 2 because my wife needed one for her iPhone 5 too) of these adaptor widgets to be able to connect my phone to my Bose Sound System..and my Roberts DAB Clock Radio dock...and any number of my " i-Life" accessories that I have acquired over my years as an apple devotee.

    Well...

The thunderbolt connector is very flimsy and does not reassuringly support the weight of the iPhone so without risking my new adoptor snapping in two..its pretty useless for connecting my iPhone 5 to any docking station in the origianlly intended/designed manner.

It also won't work with my Griffin iPhone case fitted....the case doesn't allow the adaptor to seat properly in any dock...maybe a fault of the case...but for the sake of a an extra mm on the adaptor length it would have at least seated properly (before snapping under the weight of the iPhone!)

Mine is heading for eBay..the only realistic solution is a new case and new docking station and new alarm clock when someone eventually releases one with the appropriate adaptor.

The new thunderbolt connector isn't just a connector its a whole new band waggon for a whole new accessories industry!!!

I bought this so I can use my Belkin car player with my new Nano. It plays fine but does not charge. The Player worked just fine with my previous generation of Nano. But when I use the lightning to 30 pin adapter the nano does not charge and really loses charge very fast. In a trip of less than one hour the Nano says it is less than 50% battery life!

    Problem isn't the adapter

My adapters work just fine. The problem is the case. So, I bought a new case because the adapter is manufactured to the iPhone specifications, the cases weren't. People should blame the case manufacturers, not Apple.

As title says we all have existing docks/chargers etc and a lot of cars have older 30 pin connections so if they change the design we should at least get this adaptor for free we pay a lot of money for apple products I cant see how on earth this is worth £25 come on apple sort it out

The adaptor does exactly what it is designed to do and works just fine. Unfortunately most case manufacturers are designing the cases for the width of the thin lightening plug and not the width of this adaptor. Buy a second lightening cord - it is cheaper anyway!

Since I use a lot of items that I like to plug my IPhone in the only way to go is to get a Slider case. This way when you need the bottom of the phone just take the bottom half off. The case I'm using now also will let me connect even with the case on. I got the case at Best Buy. The brand is Incase.

Works great with the accessories I have (car dock, zeppelin air). Those that are complaining that it doesn't work with a case, of course it won't work with a case. Just look at the design. Apple never said it would work with cases so why do you expect it will is beyond me.

You have to have a case with a single opening across the bottom so that the connector goes all the way in, not the cases with the 3 individual openings. I brought my connector with me and tested it before I purchased my case. There are not nearly as many choices for this typle of case but I found 3 styles that worked.

Bought this adapter to connect my iPhone 5 in the car. This adapter retains functionalities of the old while providing a new interface to connect to the iPhone 5. Despite early skeptics, I'm happy to report that it works with BMW's iDrive system. Steering wheel control works, and song information and playlists are still routed to the iDrive system just like it did previously. I feel like the adapter should've been sold at a much cheaper price point. $35 is asking a little much even for an adapter that works flawlessly.

Poor design and doesn't function using iPhone 4 accessories & connections

    • Written by from Aurora

55 of 76 people found this useful

Suggest you make sure this works for your connection needs before you drop $30 on it.
OK - first, the design is terrible; I bought a very small protective case (the Speck CandyShell Grip - a great case BTW) for the IPhone 5; it has a large opening for the connector but the lightning pin isn't long enough to fit all the way into the phone. Just a bad design from Apple.
But more troubling is that cords / connections / accessories that work with our other ipods and iphones (v4) don't all work the same with this connector attached to an iPhone 5. Chargers don't charge the iphone 5...connectivity to my car's iPhone connector (Nissan Maxima) doesn't work the same as the iPhone 4 and iPods (now it won't charge the iPhone 5, music controls don't work properly, etc.). Using this connector for the iPhone 5 connecting to a Bose Soundstation results in a very wobbly connection - it lost connection to the Bose frequently, sound cut out, and the left speaker never worked (this Bose still works great with all other ipods, ipod touches and iphone 4's (and they are also running ios 6). I tested this connected to my Pioneer Receiver (which has an iPod connection builtin) - this seemed to work perfect. Still have to test the car connection for our Honda Pilot and Honda Fit.

    Overall - Caveat Emptor!!!!!!
