have to remove plastic seat to get audio connection

    • Written by from Quispamsis

Bought a Lightning connector for 7th gen IPod but I had to take off the plastic seat from my Sony Dream Machine radio and Altec Lansing mini-system to get a proper connection for audio. The IPod is now perched precariously on the pin connector but at least it works. My 3rd gen IPod did not have the same issue.

    Well done.

    • Written by from Winchester

We have iPhone and iPad speakers and devices all over the house. This adapter works beautifully with all of our devices. Our iPhone 5s have cases and we don't have any problem fitting them onto it. The fit is also much more stable and secure than one would imagine by looking at the small pin dock. It's a great solution to the new connector and the old devices.

You've designed an official iPhone lightning adaptor

    • Written by from Saltburn by the sea

which isn't compatible with an official Apple iPhone case!

You never used to do things like this. This is really poor product integration and design, and you should be ashamed of yourselves for this oversight.

No audio for the 7th Gen iPod! Buyer Beware!

    • Written by from APO

Since the update to the iOS, this pin and the cord/extender no longer work. It will charge my iPod, but no audio. I get the 'unsupported device' error message most of the time, but even when I don't, I still have no audio.
I have many 30-pin USB cords and my portable speakers are 30-pin. I needed an adapter so I could continue to use what I already possessed, so I purchased 2 adapters and a dock extender. ALL of them stopped working! This is not a coincidence. And like other reviews, the placement of the pin makes the iPod stick out to the side (offset/off-center) which means it won't fit in many docks, which was why I purchased the extender cord. Now nothing works! As much money as these things cost, they should work!!! I'm really ticked off because of this. I can only use that iPod in my car now using the audio jack. Thanks for nothing Apple!

Does not work with 30 pin VGA Adapter

    • Written by from BARNSLEY

I bought one of these (over priced) adapters for my iPad Mini with Retina display in order to use my existing 30pin VGA adapter to show keynote presentations via a projector. I specifically asked the sales person if it would work for Keynote and he told me it would - well it does not. I get a "this accessory is not supported on this iPad" message. So the alternative is a lightning to VGA adapter. £25? Er, no that will be £40 sir ....!!

Why is there no 8pin to 30pin adapter for ipod classic?

    • Written by from Manchester

I'm sure this product is fine (if absurdly expensive, but hey, it's Apple, so what do people expect?) - but I cannot believe that Apple do not produce a female 8pin to male 30pin adapter so that customers can use their older iPod Classics with the newer docking stations on the market.
Does Apple seriously expect that people will just buy a new iPod when their older ones (and by older I mean bought three years ago!) still work perfectly well? I am so annoyed by this that I'm seriously thinking of ditching my Apple products for good and switching to android.

    works even better

    • Written by from Kearny

than the cord that came with my iPhone, which sadly only works in certain positions. I've had my adapter for a few months now and it works really well to charge/sync my phone. It also connects to my Bose SoundDock with no issues.

Works better then 30 Pin for me.

    • Written by from Leamington Spa

I am using it in my 2006 BMW with an OEM ipod adapter, not only it work fine, but it seems to work better than a using the 30-pin connector on previous iPhone.

I have noticed that this device has some sort of memory build in to it, when I disconnect the IPhone when I leave my car and come back to it later the last played track continues playing that track rather than starting from the first song on the device.

Also when the IPhone is connected it start playing straight away, it doesn't go through the initialisation process which it used to do (about 30s to a minute depending on the number of songs) which was the case when I was using a 30 pin device.

Couldn't be more happy with it as it fixed the flaws I had been dealing with in previous devices.

    1. You can look at the box and tell if it will work with the case you have on your phone.

    2. It says on the box it does not support video output.

All in all, I think it's great & I can't wait to use my old 6ft 30pin cord.

    Meh... at best

    • Written by from Boston

I originally bought this so I could dock my phone on my Beats By Dre BeatBox.... it doesn't even work. All that happens is that my phone charges, which is pretty cool I guess... but I can't play music. The only reason I use this now is to bring around with me in my pocket in case my phone is dying so that I can use someone else's 30-pin wire and charge my phone... because everyone has a 30-pin wire. Works fine with other docks, sadly just not with the BeatBox.

If you would like to take your case off your phone every time you want to use it, than this will prob work for you... did not work for me though. I wish I would have had a change to read all these other reviews before... I am returning this and getting the adapter with the cord.

But it was very helpful that I read the reviews prior to making the purchase. I made sure I bought a phone cover that didn't interfere with the connecting of the adapter.

If you are using a case this is not the product for you. The other 2 that wrote a review must have never had a case before on their iPhones. If you have a case buy the longer adapter. Use your brain people.

    Rip Off

    • Written by from Doncaster

Apple are a becoming a bunch of complacent idiots who think they can mess customers around. We have all spent serious money on sound systems and docking stations and the design people can't even come up with a decent adapter that works!!!

Wake up Apple because Samsung don't s*it on customers in this fashion. You will lose custom and eventually realise that attention to detail is very important.

I bet the customer relations section of APPLE never read these reviews.

I have been a customer from day one and spent thousands on your products. NOT ANY MORE.

You need to wake up and smell the roses and consider the people you have screwed over with your poorly designed adapters.

In the process of changing all my products IPAD, I PHONES ETC to SAMSUNG - Good Bye I Tunes you will not be missed.

    Another Customer.

    Incompatible with Apple's own products

    • Written by from London

I've just spent a ridiculous $100 + taxes on three cables, a lightning to 30 pin adapter at $30, a USB adapter at $30 and a 30 pin HDMI adapter at $40, assuming the combination would allow me to connect an iPhone 5, an ipad 4 and a 30 pin ipad to a variety of peripherals. As soon as you connect two Apple cables together you get an "incompatible" message, which is frankly a disgrace. This means you have to buy multiple, separate cables at huge expense for each device to even stand a chance of getting them to work with the same peripherals. Judging from other posts, even this won't provide full functionality on many of them. Sort it out quickly Apple, the competition are catching up and overtaking fast.

Terrible Product- doesn't deserve one star

    • Written by from New Orleans

The adapter DOES NOT work consistently AT ALL. When I plug it into my iPhone 5s, I get the message, "this accessory is not supported by this device," even though the Lightning was bought from the Apple Store and it is connected to my old 4s charger from the Apple Store. When I remove my Speck case the Lightning works sometimes but not all the time. If Apple insist on charging $39.00 for an adapter it should be at minimum effective and reliable. I'm returning it.
