Will not work if your iPhone 5 has any kind of cover

    • Written by from Long Beach

The length of the lightning adapter is too short if you have any kind of cover with your iPhone 5. I have an Apple-like bumper cover (similar to iPhone 4/4S) and the metal contact on the adapter is WAY TOO short. I suggest getting the Lighting to 30-pin Adapter Cable instead. The cable has a thin longer Lightning connection that will work with most iPhone 5 covers.

    Useful but expensive

    • Written by from Cranleigh

It seems to be a useful adapter to have, but for it to cost £25.00? Seems a bit of a rip off to me...

    design not thought about

    • Written by from Ipswich

Unusual for Apple the design of the adapter has not taken into account that most people put a protection case around there iPhone. All it needed was a step on the iPhone end to allow for the outer case thickness. To use the adapter the outer case has to be removed which is not only inconvenient but defeats the point of an outer case .

    • Written by from STANFORD-LE-HOPE

As title says we all have existing docks/chargers etc and a lot of cars have older 30 pin connections so if they change the design we should at least get this adaptor for free we pay a lot of money for apple products I cant see how on earth this is worth £25 come on apple sort it out

It works fine - but overpriced and uncoordinated

    • Written by from Fareham

The adapter works just fine with my speakers/clock radio. However I am very unimpressed with this product in general as it looks awful plugged into my speakers/dock being white when my phone is black and my speakers are black.
I also think it is ridiculously expensive(£25) for what you get, it must cost very little to produce this item. For that price I would atleast like a choice of colours so that it matched my phone/speakers.
But functionally, I have no problems at all, it charges the phone and plays music perfectly through the speakers.

    Adaptor broke within 1 month

    • Written by from Margate

I purchased the adaptor as I own a Bose docking station for playing music from my iPhone 5. The adaptor was working fine to begin with, but now the lightening connection only works one way around, meaning the screen on my iPhone now has to face the speakers!! It has not lasted long at all, as there is not support for the weight of the phone on such a small connector. Apple should look into this as the whole point of the lightening connection is so it can be plug in either way when using other products. I will be taking it back and change it for the 0.2m cable version so my phone is next to the docking station as i can see this issue repeating.

    Disappointing...Bluetooth options may be better

    • Written by from ATLANTA

This is a disappointing move from Apple...not because they changed from 30-pin to lightning (change is inevitable), but because the lightning interface thus far offers no advantages vs. 30-pin; in fact, it's a step BACKWARDS (no video out, may not charge your device depending on the dock it's connected to). I bought one knowing there was no video out, but to not support charging with all 3rd party docks (I have two JBL docks) is unacceptable. I will probably return it and get Bluetooth 30-pin streaming receivers to play music. I hope Apple offers updated Lightning accessories in the future to address these deficiencies, support faster data transfers, etc.

Overpriced and doesn't support a case

    • Written by from Alderley Edge

Firstly, the obvious point here is that the product is overpriced. It is an adaptor, it's ridiculously priced.

Also it doesn't fit into the device if you have a case on.

Works with some previously usable but not worth $35

    • Written by from West Kelowna

I bought one of these connectors for use with my scosche fm transmitter in my car. The adapter allows the transmitter to play music and show the song title properly, however it does not charge my iPhone 5... Tried it with my sylvania alarm clock and it works fine (not defective) I'm disappointed the apple would change connectors and then not stock them for 2 months after releasing a product, charge this much for a connector and have it only work with some products. Looks like apple cost me even more cash now that I have to buy a new fm transmitter. The best part of apple is dead...

    Audio but doesn't charge

    • Written by from Leigh on Sea

Bought the new Nano with this adapter for my daughter. The Nano ran out of battery as the adapter only allows audio and no charging on her Logic 3 I-station. What a waste of money, Products should be fully compatible, especially a straight forward adapter at hefty cost of £25. It feels like fraud.

It does work with my Denon Ipod dock so I know the adapter is working and the fault is in the design.

    Big Miss on Video

    • Written by from Horsham

No Video Out is a huge miss. New technology should NOT go backward. Unforunately with no solution to connect to 100% of car stereo installations that have a video presence is a BACKWARDS movement. A huge miss, I'm afraid.

Poor design and doesn't function using iPhone 4 accessories & connections

    • Written by from Aurora

Suggest you make sure this works for your connection needs before you drop $30 on it.
OK - first, the design is terrible; I bought a very small protective case (the Speck CandyShell Grip - a great case BTW) for the IPhone 5; it has a large opening for the connector but the lightning pin isn't long enough to fit all the way into the phone. Just a bad design from Apple.
But more troubling is that cords / connections / accessories that work with our other ipods and iphones (v4) don't all work the same with this connector attached to an iPhone 5. Chargers don't charge the iphone 5...connectivity to my car's iPhone connector (Nissan Maxima) doesn't work the same as the iPhone 4 and iPods (now it won't charge the iPhone 5, music controls don't work properly, etc.). Using this connector for the iPhone 5 connecting to a Bose Soundstation results in a very wobbly connection - it lost connection to the Bose frequently, sound cut out, and the left speaker never worked (this Bose still works great with all other ipods, ipod touches and iphone 4's (and they are also running ios 6). I tested this connected to my Pioneer Receiver (which has an iPod connection builtin) - this seemed to work perfect. Still have to test the car connection for our Honda Pilot and Honda Fit.

    Overall - Caveat Emptor!!!!!!

    Not worth it.

    • Written by from BRISTOL

Shame really but the adapter doesn't allow the HDMI adapter for the old Ipad connector to function, which means that you have to purchase the HDMI adapter seperately, running in at £40 is not a purchase to be taken lightly, especially if you only recently bought the non lightening version.

I hear to many stories like this one, in which the adapter doesn't really work with oher kit (including Apple's own adapters), all it seems to confortably work with is the charger but the old skool chargers. So if you need it for anything else, probably best to steer clear.

    Car Head Unit Adaptor

    • Written by from Pakenham

Plays music when attached to my Pioneer head unit with 30 pin plug. Does not charge the Ipod though. My old Ipod when plugged directly would play and charge the Ipod. Now I have to continually bring the Ipod out of my car to charge whereas i used to just leave my old one connected permanently.

Apple really need to come up with a complete working solution since they decided to change to the lighting plug. I now have docking stations and more that are either useless or only partially working with the new connector.

    Hmmm read before you buy

    • Written by from Crewe

I purchased this as it was assumed it was purely an adapter to 30pin from lightning. This is not the case. It will provide audio and charging ( so if thats all you needs then its fine).

However it was purchased as i go to a gym that has the matrix gym equipment allowing you to use your iPod/iphone to view video/music and use nike+

When it was plugged in, said device not supported, and only audio tracks were attainable. But i suppose its my fault for not reading the website. But i asked the genius guys and they said it does the same job as if id put in a lightning cable direcytly.

Why on earth video and other features arent supported is beyond me.!

Apple staff need to learn their products

    • Written by from milton keynes

I bought this device to hook up my iPad mini to my AV composite cables. I asked instore whether this device would support video And was told categorically that it would, even though on the box it says no video supported. I got it home, plugged in, and what do you know - It doesn't work! Don't get me wrong, this is still a good device to have because it means I can use the other charging cables I have lying around the house, but the Apple staff instore really should know more about what they're selling and at £25 this should be able to connect to my existing AV cables.

iPhone 5 lighting adapter design gap

    • Written by from Singapore

It was a disappointment when I received the lighting adapter as I need to remove my phone cover when I connect it to my older iphone adapter,
Apple should have make the lighting adapter a littler longer as all iphone need to be enclosed with a phone cover to prevent it from scratching.
Who on earth will recover the phone cover each time u charge the iphone.

My recommendation just buy the iphone adapter cable.

I like the design of the small adapter but I really have to voice my disappointment that in the end after the long wait I am unable to use it effectively
