    Absolutely AWFUL!

The old cable design was much better. This new one is a piece of junk...and $80 to replace it is RIDICULOUS!!!! I'm on my third one in 6 months!!!

    Rubbish

These cables are of very poor quality and the design of these needs to be addressed. We should not have to pay SIXTYFIVE POUNDS to replace a 1 year old cable!!!

    No issues here

    • Written by from Rio Rancho

Maybe the magnet on mine is better than most, but I have absolutely no issues with the cord disconnecting inadvertently like so many others. I actually have a little trouble disconnecting it without getting a good grip on the connector.

Only time will tell if I have the cord issues that everyone else talks about, but the biggest factor in the cause of this that I can see is the built in cord management. Those little finger things don't have rounded edges and cause the cord to be kinked in an awkward way, so it puts a lot of stress on it. When I have to take mine somewhere, I do use this method for now, but I wrap it really loosely because of all the complaints I've read.

As for price: I'm really not sure what the complaining is about. You spend over a grand on a laptop and are complaining about an $80 power adapter? I don't think it's all that bad compared to the $130 I had to spend to get an extra adapter for my Lenovo. On the other hand, I CAN see the problem with spending it over and over as many have mentioned in their reviews.

For now, I give this a good review. I can assure you that if I have issues with it, I'll be back to edit this review.

    Dumb design

    • Written by from CALISTOGA

This design was out several years ago and was replaced by a flush attachment so no more sticking out, no more hitting it with my coffee cup, my books, my papers, etc.. I just picked up a couple of MacBook Airs and noticed they have gone back to the old dysfunctional design. Already I've knocked it off the computer and have to make way for the power cord that now sticks straight out from the computer. It's awkward and unsightly. I listen to all the complaints about the MagSafe and I've has so many MacBooks, MacBook Pros, MacBook Airs yet never a problem with the power supply except for the wearing out of the cord on this kind of design. Why would Apple go back to a design that was already proven no good? I don't get it.

    Excellent power adapter.

    • Written by from Edinburgh

This works just as it should. Easily connects and disconnects from laptop with a secure connection. It quickly charges MaBook pro and unlike a lot of reviews, my power adapter never overheats. It also is easy to wrap the cable up neatly for traveling.

Worst power cord ever invented since the dawn of time...

    • Written by from Mountain Brk

Words cannot express the level of disdain that I have for this POS power cord. I have yet to own a macbook cord that didn't develop a tear/hole within less than a year of use, so there's that unacceptably poor quality standard that exists with this cord as well as all the others that contributes to my 1-star review. But what really sends this one over the edge is the fact that the slightest movement of the laptop will cause the cord to pop out. This is a LAPTOP cord, for gosh sakes -- even the name suggests that its primary usage will not be on a steady level surface. SO why in the world would they change the design from the prior version and make it 1000 times WORSE by making it so susceptible to separation? It absolutely will not stay in the charging port if I have it in my lap and anything is touching it. Seriously, on a day when I'm working from home on my laptop in bed or on the sofa, I bet I have to reattach the cord 100 times. I loathe this version of an already low-quality product. And now I need a new one because of course there is a tear, and I better get one soon before I accidentally electrocute myself with the exposed wires. Ugh. Hate it hate it hate it. $4000 computer that I love, with an $80 POS charger that's worth about $1. That is all I can say about it. Would give it negative stars if I could.

Had this charger for a year, and it has already broken. The plastic comes off, fraying the cords. All-round piece of rubbish product, soooooo disappointed.

    What's the problem?

    • Written by from GARDNER

I can't imagine what people are doing with their chargers to have so much trouble. I've had mine for three years of moderate use with no issues at all. Maybe the cords are fraying because the flip out "fingers" for wrapping the cord put too much stress on it. I have always just wrapped the cord around my fingers and put a rubber band around it because that's the way it fits best in my case. I also find the magnet to be strong enough for normal use. The only time it has disconnected is when i have tripped over it, just as it is supposed to do.
    I have no complaints.

Not Worthy of Savvy Apple Customers

    • Written by from Oviedo

The DC connector constantly falls away from the computer with very minimal resistance so that you are using the battery even when you thought you were plugged in. The weight of the cord itself seems enough to detach it. (Looking at it seems to be enough resistance.) Had I known this about the cable, I would not have "upgraded" my computer. I gave my 2013 MacBook Pro with the previous MagSafe cord to my daughter. I'm thinking about trading computers. Shame on Apple for not correcting this problem. The previous cord (L-shaped MagSafe) was better than this MagSafe 2, but all of their cords are poorly designed. I never would have thought I'd suggest Apple look to PC's for ideas on how to improve!

    Just Terrible!

    • Written by from Newhaw

I love everything Apple but this is just an awful design, the original Magsafe use to keep firmly in place unless it was yanked in which case it would pull away from the laptop. This charger just becomes unplugged all the time with the slightest of movement... It truly is disgraceful

    Substandard product

    • Written by from Newark

The design and function of this product is good. However apple have chosen to use poor quality materials for the thin cable between the power unit and laptop. Basically this cable material is too soft and breaks at the point it connects to the power block. This has broken on two occasions even after taking great care. It took about 1 year for this to happen on both occasions.

This is also an old problem which indicates that apple really does not care.

    Poor Design of T-Shape Connector

    • Written by from South Grafton

When I first bought my MacBook Pro and took a look at the MagSafe 2 T-connector I could see the T shape was going to be trouble. Changing the connector design from the L-shape that is parallel and thus out of the way to one that sticks straight out inviting the user to knock it to see how easy it can be disconnected was a mistake. Jony, Apple design is phenomenal; however, this is one big step backwards. Although it lasted my than a year, the conductor broke right through the insulation. Good thing it is carrying only a low voltage current there might have been electrical burns to users.

    Absolutely Fine!

    • Written by from Christchurch

Many people have criticised this charger for numerous reasons. However it is perfectly fine! I love how it comes with the extension cord making it reach even further, also being able to wind the cord up makes storage simple. People say it falls out of the macbook too easily, are you trying to ride a bike while you charge?!? The magnet holding it in is strong enough that I can get up and move around without it falling out - unless you bend the cord away for the laptop then of course it will fall out! This charger is fantastic and does the job perfectly, treat it right and it will last you a long time.

Ps. I have had mine for a year now and it gets used every day at university and at home.

    Rediculous Design

    • Written by from NABIAC

*****ZERO STARS******** (have to choose one star to write the review)2nd adapter in 2 years. Worst design apple has ever thought of.I guess if the adapter lead (magsafe end) could be taken out and replaced just like the power lead It was save the purchase of an entire new adapter. I love your computers, however...A six year old could design a better Power adapter than this? What's wrong with an IEC lead? NOTHING! Because of this i don't think I will be purchasing another MacBook as the cost of replacement accessories is far to expensive. Even your DVD drive breaks in the same place, your Phone chargers break in the same place.

    No Problems

    • Written by from Louisville

I am about to buy my third charger for my Macbook 13 - although I am sick of paying $80 for new chargers, it is not due to the charger being bad or falling out or not working. Our new puppy has chewed all of my chargers in half, including two iPhone chargers as well! Other than this crazy pup, I think the charger is fine and works perfectly for me. Matter of fact, my laptop charges so fast that it doesn't even need to be on that long. And even then, the battery lasts a couple days. All in all, I like the charger - I don't think the L shape or T shape really matters. People really shouldn't be upset about the charger being $80, it's not surprising at all.

    Total rubbish

    • Written by from Dulwich Hill

This is quite frankly the worst product in existence. I'm so sick of it falling out of the laptop every time I move. The adapter is held into the laptop with a magnet that has a very low surface area. When the laptop is being used on your lap and and you move just a little bit, there is insufficient magnetic surface area to keep the adapter held in the power socket. Obviously this doesn't happen when the laptop is on a desk surface, but I guess the designers didn't realise that laptops are additionally expected to be used on laps!

I didn't have this trouble with the MagSafe 1 because the cable didn't jut out the side and the surface area of the adapter was higher.

Worst design apple has ever come up with

    • Written by from Mahone Bay

It seems to work fine from a functional perspective, but the 'connector' disconnects at the slightest movement and before you know it you are out of juice or the extended screen turns off!

The original magsafe design was much better.
