    Great Product

    • Written by from Nashville

I have been using the Thunderbolt Display for about 6 months now. It has been a great docking station/monitor for my MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Late 2013). The display has operated perfectly - I have not had any problems that some of the other reviews mentioned. I connect my MBP via the included power cord/thunderbolt cable and operate my MBP while it clamshell mode. The display has outstanding resolution and everything looks great on it. I use it for work and having so much landscape to use via the size of the display, I can easily have multiple windows/apps open at the same time and be able to see them all at the same time. Great product.

VERY satisfied with this product as an add on for my MacBook Air (mid-2013)

    • Written by from University Place

I've been running a MacBook Air (mid-2013) with 1.7 Gb i7 processor, 8 GB RAM, HD Graphics 5000, and OS-X Yosemite 10.10.3. I added a Magic Mouse and a full-sized USB keyboard to allow some additional numeric and editing entry ability. I needed a bigger screen for 20+ column spreadsheet management.

Set up was BETTER than "plug-and-play" ... plug in the monitor, connect MBA to MagSafe cable and Thunderbolt cable, awaken the MBA and presto! - TBolt display is connected. Shut the laptop clamshell and the TBolt display is suddenly primary and brilliant. The display responds to all the Sys Pref settings (delay before shutting down, sizing, etc.) without issues. When the display goes to sleep, a single tap on the mouse or spacebar key immediately brings the display back to full brightness. My display has very even and natural color distribution, and I have scanned suspiciously but not found any failed pixels. I have not yet begun to do photo editing, and I haven't played with the various color balance options, but I'm not concerned right now because everything else is working exactly as I had hoped for (for this set up). If you have a similar set up and current software, I believe this display could offer significant size and resolution benefits. And the best part is ... I can take all this information on the road with a truly lightweight and powerful laptop when I leave home!

What do you want out of a monitor???

    • Written by from Las Vegas

I've read through a bunch of reviews for this monitor and let me first point out the common complaints. One, it's too glossy. Two, USB ports aren't 3.0. Three, thunderbolt connection to my laptop doesn't work the way I want. And forth, I can't adjust the screen the way I want. My review is: I'm using this with a Mac Mini and I've had none of those issues. Works great!. If you want something else don't buy this and buy someone else's monitor with mini Displayport.

    Stunning Display

    • Written by from Cornelius

I have had my Thunderbolt Display for several months now, and I am still blown away by it. I thought that I may be disappointed by the fact that it wasn't a "retina" display. However, that couldn't be farther from the truth. I think that the picture is beautiful, couldn't ask for a better display in my opinion. I use it with both my MacBook Pro and Mac mini. Its wonderful for multitasking. Mine is on 24/7 and I have not had a single issue with it.

    Great Display.

    • Written by from Seattle

I use this for gaming and high-end design - interactive and print work. It's flawless. I'm not sure why its received so many negative reviews... my experience with two separate units has been excellent. I purchased one for studio use after using my macbook pro with another.

    Easy connect. Beautiful screen. Simple.

    The Truth About This Display...

    • Written by from Fremont

I have to own something for at least 1 year before I'll do a review of it. I've owned an Apple product of some sort since 1985. I currently have 8 Apple products working in my home at the present time. I am a 47 year old male who owns a marketing firm in Seattle.

I point out the above to give perspective. A lot of times when I read a review I like to know a little about the person's situation because, really...who are they? Why should I listen to them?
With that said I need to point out quickly that I read all the negative reviews (all 88 at this writing) and it seems a bit curious to me that most of them share the same personality. In other words, it doesn't seem to me they are all that truthful. It's amazing to me that a product can have 1000's of people really like it but a few don't? Usually it's the person, not the product, when it comes down to brass tacks.

I own 7 of the Thunderbolt Displays and have yet to have any issues with any of them. All my employees use various MacBooks to fire any number of them up and mine in my office has a Mac Mini attached to it. Made my purchases in December of 2013 and have been very happy with the final product. Beautiful all the way 'round.
Now I will say my only wish is for there to be at least one USB port located on the bottom or side. Yes, I understand, Apple likes a smooth well-defined look about their products and I appreciate that. However, I use it to charge a lot of items and it'd just be more convenient.

    Overall, I dig the product.

    28 months, still going strong

    • Written by from Costa Mesa

I bought mine in October 2012. 2.5 years later, it looks and acts new. The one-star reviews seem to be mostly from 2011.

Obviously not the cheapest monitor you could buy! But bright, beautiful, solid and reliable.

    A Good Choice

    • Written by from Chester Springs

I bought this display to pair with my 27" iMac (late 2013). I am very happy with my choice. Colors, resolution, etc. match perfectly. I have not found the gloss to be an issue --this display has the same surface finish as the iMac, to my eye. The overall unit is ~1" shorter than the iMac display-- a book solved that, though I'll look for a more eye-pleasing longer-term solution.

    What a mitzvah!

    • Written by from granville

happened onto apple site and saw a whole bunch of very negative reviews and thought this needed to be balanced up a bit.

I bought one of these around 2 years ago.

It looks fantastic. Glossy screen is very nice although you do need to get it in the right spot/angle. Clarity and colours and clearness are lovely. It's the best.

It is a great docking station.

Mine failed in first 6 months. Apple fixed it.

Since it got fixed (whole board was dead i think) i haven't had an issue.

I use mine for work so to some degree my enthusiasm for the product is informed by the fact that should it fail i won't be out of pocket.

But if i needed a screen at home i can't imagine what else i would buy.

This is a beautiful screen, get apple care as well if it is a home purchase and enjoy the screen. Life is short.

    Best Purchase Ever!

    • Written by from Steubenville

Pros: I use the Thunderbolt display with my MacBook Air. Having power, usb peripherals and ethernet always plugged in is great. When I come into the office, I don't even open my MacBook Air (As long as it is asleep. If it's shut down, I do have to open it). I simply slide it under my display, attach power and the Thunderbolt connector, hit the spacebar on my external keyboard and everything works. The screen is fantastic and easy on the eyes. The built in speakers and camera are great and work seamlessly with my internet applications (I teach online and residential classes at a university).

Cons: On rare occasions, maybe 2 or 3 times after a year of daily use, my display has lost connection with my usb peripherals, but a simple restart fixes the problem. If you have light behind you (like a lamp/window) glare can be an issue, but it has not bothered me.

Wishes: SD slot, more USB, USB 3.0, for it to do my work : )

    Best purchase ever!

I use two of these at work, chained together and connected to a MBP. Never had any problems or complaints. Using OS X 10.8.5 btw. The colors are good and the display is bright. No problems with connecting/disconnecting any of the ports, although I never use the Firewire port so who knows. The glass front is AWESOME. So smooth and easy to clean, and it lets me use dry erase markers directly on the screen which is extremely useful.

I love my Thunderbolt display, the display image quality is a very professional, the colors are natural. I'm buyed this gorgeous display 1 year ago, and I love this display. Even with brightness zero I can watch my videos and they looks fantastic. Only one mistake is that Apple not applied oleophobic layer on this display.

Excellent monitor, great performance and reliability

    • Written by from Southlake

Along with many other happy users, I have had the pleasure of using this display (well, three of them) for six months. I am impressed with the resolution, connectivity to peripherals and the ability for the monitors to easily support multiple machines. Although two of my displays are usually connected to a late 2013 MacPro, one doubles as a third monitor or as a monitor for a MacBookPro or MacBook Air. I cannot say enough good things...monitors handle all the viewing duty and maintain great connectivity to many external T-Bolt drives.

    Absolutely beautiful

    • Written by from Lubbock

I bought one of these for use with our Mac Mini at home after using one at work for about two months. It was absolutely the right choice and fits perfectly into our setup at home. To make the screen height, position and angle adjustable I also bought the Ergotron MX Desk Mount LCD Arm and the Apple VESA adapter plate needed to mount it in place of the simple angled stand. We reused the stand along with a twelve south BackPack plate shelf attachment to remount the Mini out of sight behind the monitor, standing up on its side.

Overall we are delighted (my whole family) with the setup and making way more use of the Mini than we had with its previous Cinema Display monitor, which looks small and pale by comparison even though it was a very nice choice for its time (two generations before the current Mini)!

27", Thunderbolt BU speed, added USBs

    • Written by from Burnsville

I disposed 3 PCs and replaced them with one Mac Book Air. Because of the ability to have 3 monitors and ample storage on the 1 TB SSD in the Mac Book, I no longer have to network in the office or over a VPN to my remote office. My center monitor is the Thunderbolt. With this arrangement I am able to connect 3 printers, 2 external Thunderbolt drives, a scanner and a postal scale. I am completely satisfied with the Thunderbolt and my next purchase will be another one for my other office. I just unplug the Mac Book, take it to the other location and plug it in. The multiple ports on the Thunderbolt Display make this very do-able.

    Thunderbolt Display 27" love it

    • Written by from Woodbridge

As i am a keen Apple user and have acquired some of their products over the last few years.I was wanting to have a bigger screen for my Mac Book pro 13". So of course i stated looking at the Thunderbolt display 27". As you do. You check out all the blogs. See what other users have to say. I was very suppprised to read how many negative comments there were. So i decided to find out myself if the negative comments were true. I went to my local Apple store and asked a sales person to show and tell me all about this what i thought was a wonderful product.I must admit when talking to the sales person, i was not completely convinced to spend the money and left feeling a bit depressed. However a few months later i decided to try again and did all the research again and guess what. I am now a very proud owner of a Apple Thunderbolt Display and loving it!! To me this a great product and sure it might not be everyones choice. But then we have all different needs. For me it ticks all the boxes from editing my Photos to watching my Blu-ray movies. I recommend check it out and see if it ticks all the boxes you want in a display monitor of this size. Then decide if it is for you.

    Great monitor

    • Written by from Gainesville

Using the Thunderbolt display for an 11" MacBook Air. Wasn't sure whether to take the plunge or wait for a possible refresh. Decided to go ahead and buy. Not disappointed. Only drawbacks in my view are lack of USB 3.0 (which to be honest I don't even have anything USB 3.0 yet!) and having to use the MagSafe to MagSafe2 adapter. Other than that it is beautiful. Not sure why so many bad reviews about multi-monitor support are still floating around the top, but Mavericks and Yosemite offer great support.
