    Sexy

This dock is fab, the iphone fits in it so well and its rubber based means it grips really well on my desk and i can still push the screen without pushing it over. Make charging for me easy. A worth while investment.
Though it should really come free with the iphone.

    Nothing but charging and syncing

    Written by NP from London

    Nov 14, 2008

I've had this dock since I bought the iPhone 3G. It's been great. It keeps the iPhone looking neat on my desk whilst it synchronizes and charges.

A while back I also bought myself an a/v cable so I could watch videos from my iPhone 3G on my tv. What I really wanted was to plug the cable in to the back of the dock so that next to the tv my iPhone would still look as neat and tidy as it did on my desk. To my annoyance I discovered that the dock will not allow this. There is no capability of providing the video to the cable for some reason.

And today I bought myself the iPhone Bluetooth Headset, which of course comes with a special cable that lets you charge the headset and the iPhone at the same time.
Well what would be ideal would be a dock like you could get for the iPhone which accepts both phone and headset, but we STILL can't get that for the iPhone 3G.

So, I decided I could just plug the cable that came with the headset in to the back of the iPhone 3G Dock and succeed in charging/syncing both at the same time that way.
No such luck. Do this and the headset stops charging - the iPhone doesn't even recognise that it's connected.

Why has Apple done this? Why isn't the dock just a straight one-to-one pin connection. Why have they limited its capabilities?

    So to sum up:
The dock is fine if you ONLY need to charge or sync your iPhone 3G.
But if you wish to use any other cable that you could plug directly in the port of the phone; forget it. The Dock just won't let it work.
So you can't keep your desk looking neat if you want to be clever!

    Nice product

    Written by AH from Bradbury

I bought a couple of these docks today from the Apple store. Form and function are excellent, the unit has a nice weight to it. Not being someone who uses a case the dock works perfectly. If you used a case and had to pull it in and out I would probably stick with the standard cable.

While I knew I wasn't getting a USB cable, it's still a little disappointing to not get one. I personally have a few iPods so have spare cables, but not everyone does and like me wants a dock at both home and work.
Whats interesting is that the small box it comes in looks like it has provision for a USB cable in the packaging... forward planning?

I would have given it five stars had it had a USB cable.

The Iphone 3G Dock will not play music to your stereo.
I have the Iphone 3G and Iphone 3G Dock and the Apple AV cable.

Iphone to cable to stereo is fine, but use the dock and forget the music.

Ignore the sales pitch about looking good in your lounge room.

    Too-steep docking angle, premium price

    Written by NN from Houston

    Oct 23, 2008

Performancewise, it works just as it should: it syncs and charges my iPhone 3G in a space-saving position on the desk.

I believe my desk surface is close to ergonomically correct, where my forearms are parallel to the desk surface and the floor. But the angle of the iPhone 3G in the dock is like 70-80 degrees from horizontal, so it practically appears to be sitting straight up and down. To adjust for this, I either hunch to see everything on the screen or push it farther back on the desk. Neither is a great option. I guess I might place it on some sort of pedestal...

The dock has a nice heft to it, plus a grippy rubber base. Frankly, I'm glad I didn't pay for it and the additional USB cable myself (I keep the USB cable that came with the iPhone at home), because I do find the cost of both combined is a bit high. If, however, you just have one computer you use your iPhone 3G with, you only need to buy the dock; then it kinda makes sense why the dock didn't have another USB cable packaged with it. I tell myself that, anyway...

    Why not in the package?

    Written by JT from Calgary

    Oct 8, 2008

The first iPhone came with the charging cable AND this dock. Now they don't include it and that really hurts. The dock is alright, it does the job but is still overpriced for being essentially a stand for your iphone that looks neat. I've gone back to just using the cable direction because the base of the dock is not big enough to stop the iphone from falling over from time to time when you try to use the phone while it is in it's dock.

    Good Product

OK Apple I understand that the 3G handset costs us less than the 2G. So you have had to reduce your costs and not include the dock. However £19 is a bit much just for the dock. Would it not of been better to sell a dock, cable & wall charger as a package say at £25?

I got my 3G iPhone on 11th July and only bought the dock last week. Wish I had of bought this before now, makes connecting the phone to my computer so much better. Also hold the handset in place on my desk so I don't knock the phone onto the floor.

Another outstanding product from Apple, but like many others I'm wondering why it wasn't included with the iPhone.
Another issue of mine was the fact I couldn't find this dock in any O2 or Carphone Warehouse store near me, and had to end up ordering it.

    Finally a dock for cheap!

    Written by JP from Sainte-Julienne

    Oct 1, 2008

I have to say KUDO's to Apple for FINALLY having released a dock for cheaper: Used to be around $50 WITH cable before If I am correct. I simply love the fact of not having to dish-out $50 for a dock + cable when I already have a cable...

Although I find it still pricy considering there is about $3 worth of parts packaging and labor, but hey, all Apple accessories sport a quite hefty price tag...

I still welcome the idea of selling the dock and the cable separately, they should do this for a lot of accessories that come in multi-parts - sell them in parts as well.

Too bad some reviewers seem dismayed by the fact they don't have a cable included, I guess they were not aware that the price of the dock use to be almost double when it came with the cable.

    Apple Iphone Dual Dock

    Written by JH from BRIDGNORTH

A little disappointed that having bought 2 dual iphone docks for the original iphone and headset I cannot use them with the new 3G phone, infact unless i use the lead that came with the headset i cannot charge the items together. Why is this Apple? Are we not going to have a dual dock for the new 3G phone?

    A bit too compact

    Written by BD from Grimsby

    Sep 24, 2008

Overall, this dock does what it says on the tin. However, its dimensions are such that if you have your iPhone in a case, even just a skin, it won't fit in the dock. I have to remove the skin every time. This defeats the object a little as I wanted to play the iPod whilst sat at my desk but then pick the iPhone out of the dock when I go walkabout, without a load of hassle disconnecting audio plugs, etc. I don't have to do that but I do have to put the skin back on to avoid damage whilst the iPhone is in my pocket, so not quite the convenient gadget I envisaged.

It is exactly what it says it is: a Dock

    Written by PC from Jacksonville

    Sep 21, 2008

Some people like to gripe too much. The box says it's an iPhone 3G dock. That's what you get. Nothing less, nothing more. It does exactly what it's supposed to do. If you were expecting a cable, an AC adapter, or a Macbook Air to be included with it, it's your own fault for not reading the side of the box. It clearly states that just a dock is included. The cable & AC adapter came with your iPhone. If that's not enough, just buy more cables and adapters. Problem solved. If you don't like that policy, tough, because that's how Apple works.

I will ding Apple 1 star because it is a shame that Apple decided not to include a dock with the 3G, when it was included with the first iPhone. They also continue to supply the 'Dock-specific' USB cable (small connector) with the 3G iPhone rather than the normal 'dockless' cable (with it's larger connector that clips in). It seems that this was intentional to force people to buy a dock.

    Love my Dock

    Written by RF from Mosman

    Sep 20, 2008

I have to confess to being hesitant about spending $35 just so that my iPhone will sit upright whilst I'm syncing it! However... upon opening the box my hesitations were dispelled!

Simple, elegant and does its job very well. There is a solidity and weightiness about the dock which is reassuring. Whether charging, syncing or connecting the iPhone to my sound system I love my dock. In fact, I now have three. One at home, one on my desk at work and one in my laptop bag for when I'm traveling and/or working on site.

It is fine, but limited use of cases

    Written by ND from Seattle

    Sep 20, 2008

I am not at all disappointed by the lack of a cable, unless you ate the one that came with your iphone, you should be fine with it too. Otherwise you just end up with a cable sitting in a drawer.

I guess I might have preferred to have the larger one for an extra 20 bucks, just because my silicon case is not an easy fit onto this one. I have seen that the agent 18 case comes with a universal dock adapter included in the box, and this may be one way to go, but the larger dock seem to work with any case, in any case :)
