Got a protective case on your iPhone ? Then this won't work. You need a UNIVERSAL dock which also comes with a remote. It's an easy mistake to make and even Apple Store Staff get confused. So the 3G Dock has it's limitations so make your choice very carefully.

it should of come with the phone. thats for sure. but compliments to apple for making it look just as beautiful as everything else.

This is a good dock for the iPhone 3G, it allows the phone to stand up while charging giving you a good view of the screen for incoming text messages and the like. The only criticism I have is that it did not come with another USB charging cable so you can keep the dock connected to your computer and have a travel USB charging cable for on the go charging. It would also be nice if the dock accommodated charging the Apple iPhone Bluetooth headset like the first gen iPhone dock.

Does not fit

Bought it presuming that my iphone 3G would fit in the dock along with an incase casing around the phone, however it doesn't. As a general dock it is fine but shame they don't specify that it will not fit with a case around.

Bought this one from the Apple Store, and yes, it's design is very nice, and it works perfect with my iPhone 8GB 3G, I'm happy to not have to charge my iPhone on the desk, where it can get scratches etc.

As cons I like to mention, that this dock should have been included in the iPhone box, or at least the price could have been a bit cheaper.

A great product anyways!

Not worth the money

For 29 USD, what you get is a simple dock, that is no more useful than the usb cable alone, apart from it's looks when it is in your desk (and it doesn't include an extra cable).. If the 30 pin connector would allow for video output, this would be a whole different story.. but it's not the case. For 20 USD more, you can get the universal dock, which is capable of doing video output, includes an apple remote controller and also gives you the neat looks on your desk.

A dock this simple, should be offered in the phone's package, just like the first iphone, in which it was a nice addition.. not an expensive, almost useless accessory like this one.

I especially like the sound ports built into this dock. You can listen to music or podcasts in a quiet room without external speakers or amps. Using the iPhone hands free also works well. Well done.

A 16GB iphone doesn't fit!

The iphone keeps jumping out of the dock, and you have to press hard, too hard onto the iphone to get it into the dock, then it quite literally jumps back out again...Not impressed.

I received this as a gift and can't believe that apple wasn't forward thinking enough to design it for use with protective cases. In order to use it I have to remove my case.

What can say, it holds your iPhone and it looks well docked next to my iMac, don't think it's worth €25 but then its is a Mac product, well made! Had no issues with syncing or charging.

Like many others...a little disappointed that the iPhone dock doesn't allow A/V pass-thru. Why would you not create the dock specifically designed for the iPhone to capitalize on all it's features??

Sorry...this was a big miss.

actually i perfer this over the universal dock i mean this dock is perfect fit nothing wrong i can still listen to music with the dock on and all that other stuff it never disconnects or anything very good

I like the overall design of the dock, also it has a 3.5mm audio out for your external speakers. Little costly but a must to have for your iphone :)

Apple iPhone 3G Dock

No AV out

Bought this dock from the apple store on Regent Street, along with the 'Component AV Cable'. I even spoke to a member of staff to check that everything would work OK. When I got it all set up at home I found that the cable worked fine when connected straight to my iPhone 3G, but it would only charge via the USB connection when in the dock. The audio and video outputs do not work.

I'm astounded that apple can make a product that does not provide the expected. Surely the dock connector would simply pass through the data it is receiving from the ipod/iphone sitting in the dock.

Apparently not.

Poor show apple.

Really good quality, I was surprised at the weight of it! Nice and sturdy and shows off the phone! Just remember that if you have any protective covers, it might not fit while the cover is on.

What!? The dock cancels volume control via phone?

Dock is fine in every respect, accept that volume can only be controlled using volume knob on the powered speakers connected to the dock.

What's up with that?

I bought the dock for looks and convenience for my desk at work.

I have the universal dock at home, which comes with a remote and outputs video. I believe I have the option of controlling volume on the phone or with the remote.

I am very surprised that it appears that the volume control on the phone is disengaged when the phone is in the dock and the dock is connected to powered speakers via the audio out port on the dock.

That's not the case with the universal dock (but who wants to spend $50 even a first time much less a second time for a dock); or when the phone is in the dock but the speakers are connected via the phone's headphone port (which set-up is pretty ugly-looking).

Hopefully, there is a correction for what i am experiencing or I suspect I will be taking the dock back.
