Apple Composite Cable

Great item allows you to view your photos on a tv, listen to your ipod through a home stereo, sync the ipod and charge it either via a usb port or the included power adapter which has both a UK 3 pin plug and the euro 2 pin adapter both included, which is great when your away on holiday! The price is a little steep but when you compare the price of this pack to purchasing the parts individually (The AV lead) (An extra usb lead) (UK power adpater) (& the Euro power adapter) it's really not that bad, and Apple are not on their own for shipping goods without power adapters, I just suppose it's there way of making a little extra money off you! If you do connect this lead up to all your home entertainment system, and you wish to take your ipod away with you (But you still wish to charge it) without undoing all the wiring, remember you still have the usb cable that came with the ipod and now the choice of 2 power adapters to charge it on the move!

AV connection from IPOD TO digital TV
Written by AR
Apr 12, 2008
connector functions well. Image quality on large screen very pleasing. A surprising extra was I TUNES music library plays along with the picture show. It was a little tricky getting my IPOD classic "TV OUT" setting. It took me a couple of minutes getting it to display "TV OUT ENABLED" It won't work until you get that message.

Impressive Output Quality
Written by MG from Bedhampton

It seemed expensive for a cable, but, WOW! The quality outout is fantastic. It means I can watch videos off the iPod straight onto on my tv, or onto my portable 7 Inch LCD screen. Well worth the investment.
It comes with 2 power adaptors(UK and European), however it would be nice if it aqlso included a car adaptor. Although you can buy a car adaptor powered USB port for a few quid off any good electrical outlet or website.466 of 685 people found this useful

good stuff

Works Perfectly. The price is a bit high for what it is, but it has completely removed any need for me to buy blank DVD's which will save me quite a chunk of change over time.
Plus you do also get a USB - wall plug (both UK and Euro) charger include in the box which you can use with your standard iPod USB cable, great for when traveling.
overall, I'm very happy with this product

Great Value!
Written by MJ from Fayetteville

This cable is the perfect solution for many uses. I use it primarily to connect my iPod to my home stereo. Also, it charges my iPod if I want it to while its playing so I never have to worry about having a low battery. Also, I have several full length movies saved on my iPod and it is great to connect to a TV and get near DVD video and sound quality from only my iPod and the AV cable. This product is well worth the money!

Why wasn't I told when I bought the classic?
Written by VI from Ashfield
Oct 1, 2007
Just bought a new iPod classic, but I am very dismayed and upset with Apple for making it incompatible with existing AV cables. You need this apple product with its authentication system in order to play video or see photos on your TV. No explanation on apple's site - other than a statement in the pdf manual that other cables "may not work". This is really arrogant and sneaky behaviour. Not upset so much that there is authentication needed, just the lack of explanation, no warning before I purchased etc. Really I would have bought the previous model if I had known this. (I upgraded from an old U2 Model). I'm sure the cable works just fine. I shouldn't have to buy this.

Excellent
Written by DR from Burntwood

I was suprised to find the cable in GameStation for £19.99 and at first though it was from another manufacturer, however it was a genuine Apple product.
I had expected a mediocre picture quality but connected to a 42 inch plasma it was suprisingly good, with only minimal lack of quality (encoding? a 4.7Gb DVD down to 6000Mb)
Even worked when I fed it into the built in GPS in my Pajero!
One review states this item will only work with digital TV's, it will work with any TV with COMPOSITE input rather than Component as on newer HD TV's their is a seperate AV cable for this.256 of 408 people found this useful

Great product, but pricey.
Written by DH from Miami
Jun 16, 2008
the cable works great, charges my ipod, but it is too pricey.
as i see it, the cable itself is $20 while the charger is $30.
over the years, apple has been focused on giving the end user a great experience with their product, and you do get this with the charger/cable package.
but with apple's current focus on reducing packaging and waste to help the environment, i would encourage apple to amend this product and offer the two separately.
a better solution would be to have the online store suggest the charger as a supplimental item.
this would reduce owning multiple chargers, and effectively, waste. also, this would increase customer satisfaction, as the customer would be able to buy both the composite and component cables and only ONE charger. or any combination that they need.
i understand that the charger is there in case a customer wishes to leave it plugged in at all times, but not every customer needs that.
over all, great product, serves its purpose, a little pricey.122 of 177 people found this useful

ONLY COMPATIBLE WITH DIGITAL TVS
Written by AL from Templeogue
Jan 28, 2008
USED WITH CLASSIC IPOD THIS CABLE IS ONLY COMPATIBLE WITH DIGITAL TVS.
I have a classic ipod and when i purchased this cable I discovered it only works with a digital TV. It will NOT work with a traditional red, white, yellow analogue T.V. The documentation that comes with the Ipod does not state this. The information on the Apple website does not state this. I rang support and they suggested that I try to purchase and additional adaptor to convert from digital to analogue.177 of 287 people found this useful

Once again apple has taken a perfectly functioning product (Ipod), removed features that previously worked and then found ways to require us to purchase additional equipment just to get the features back... BRAVO!!

Does pretty much everything - almost...!
Written by DF from SOUTH CROYDON

Bought this last week and have been playing around with it for a few days now and have to say - its pretty good!
The leads do everything that I expected them to do. Some reviews have stated that the lead does not work with the iPhone 3G - well, I can promise - it does work...!!!
The best thing about this is that you get a charger in the box as well and as there is also a USB connector lead attached to the cables, you can plug in the yellow(for video), red and white (audio left and right) leads into your tv and at the same time, plug in the USB lead into the charger so you can basically watch video from your device while at the same time - charging it. Wicked...!!
I do have 1 issue though (hence why I have only given it 4 out of 5 stars) and that is, although you can also play a slideshow, on your tv, from the 'Photos' section on the iPhone - I found that you can't play any music full stop.
I would have like to be able to play a slide show of my photos while at the same time playing some music as well. But its a minor quibble,
All in all - a great product.

Well the cable arrived and I plugged it in and fired up the BBC iPlayer on my iPhone and watched the program I wanted to see on my TV in comfort rather than sat at my desk upstairs! Also plays movies from my iPhone. So simple!

Good
Written by SS from Bristol

This is a great accessory for the new iPods! (especially when I bought it for only £19.99 in Gamestation!), It lets you view pictures, and videos or listen to music, or if you have an iPod Touch or iPhone, it will let you watch BBC iPlayer through Safari, and it will also display YouTube on your TV!
However, mine doesn't seem to work with my iPod Universal Dock - when I connect the cable into the dock, and pick a video/song/photo, my iPod Touch displays that it is working, but the picture doesn't seem to appear on the TV. So, I have to just plug it straight into my iPod Touch. (Maybe it only will work with the newest dock?).
Overall, it is a great product, and a must-buy! It's only 4-stars, as it will not work with my iPod Universal Dock.224 of 393 people found this useful

Buy This!
Written by PG from BRISTOL

Had one of these for a few months. Use it all the time. With one of these and an iPod Touch or iPhone you will find it hard to justify buying an Apple TV.
I did notice that the video quality improved significantly after iPod Touch 2.0 firmware update. The ability to stream BBC iPlayer through it is fantastic.61 of 70 people found this useful

Great quality (and value - if bought in the US)
Written by ME from Higham's Park

I got one of these from the Apple store in Miami whilst on holiday so I probably paid what it's really worth. What I wasn't ready for was the quality of the output from an iPhone when plugged in to my hotel's 32" TV...
I put some Disney films on my phone to keep daughter amused on flight but had exported them from Apple TV quality 'down' to iPod/iPhone quality in QT Pro. This way I managed to fit 8 whole films on and still have plenty of free space on the phone.
I was expecting something a bit pixelly when plugged in to a screen but no, it was almost as if I had a DVD player plugged in. Alright it was an oldish 32" CRT not a 50" HD plasma but it's still impressive when you think of the file size and portability. There was some struggling in the finer cloud details and things like that but that's the encoding, not the phone or the lead.
Add the fact that it comes with a 'spare' mains charger which charges as you watch and I think this is probably even worth the UK store price. It definitely is if you want to take a bunch of films away with you to keep the kids amused...(and thanks to Apple's interface my not-even 3 year-old worked out how to change from one film to another so I didn't have to get up!)157 of 264 people found this useful

The adapter is good for when you are going on holiday and wish to charge your iPod where there is no USB port handy. The cable transfers video and music perfectly onto your TV! The only nag is the price, but in my point of view, is worth it. TOP BUY!

Now after upgrading my iP{od to the classic to find out its no longer compatible with any of my existing docking bases, home entertainment integration, portable video cables and my in-car entertainment integration, meaning around $300 wasted, I doubt I'd spend the 80 bucks for each set up i now need.

Apple Composite AV (5 Stars)
Written by FB from BIRMINGHAM
Jul 26, 2008
Purchased the composite AV cable for my Iphone 3G,
I placed my order online late Tuesday afternoon and received my cable on Friday the same week (standard delivery).
The quality of the picture on my LCD TV is good.
Settings on my Iphone are: NTSC, widescreen, close caption enabled.
Note that the AV out signal from the iPhone is only ON during Picture slideshow mode, or when reading any media files readable by the iphone Media player (e.g wmv).
This is a great way to replay all BBC programs from the bbc iplayer or DL.TV programs available on the internet.
with this cable the Iphone has now become a new home media centre.
I personnally do not use the power supply as I plugged the USB connector on my BT Homehub.

Apple Composite AV Cable
Really handy, but a bit expensive
Written by JR from Heywood
Dec 30, 2007
This is a really useful accessory. It allows me to connect my iPhone to almost any TV, I can't find a single TV in my house that doesn't have composite. It also allows me to use my old 30GB 5th Gen iPod video, which the component cable didn't allow. I give this device a 4 star only because of the price (a bit more expensive than other manufacturers cables, but due to new limitations on the latest iPods and iPhones, you have to use Apple's own cables) and also because it's a bit difficult to unplug the cables, it feels a bit stiff and delicate and is harder than it should be, maybe a rubber grip may have helped?
Also, the charger that you get with it is very useful, allowing you to charge it whilst you use it. A European plug also came with it allowing me to easily take my iPhone/iPod abroad without having to worry about the battery.84 of 126 people found this useful
