Apple in ear electro shock treatment

    Written by JS from Pittsburgh

    Dec 5, 2009

I have always owned and been happy with the apple in ear headphones until now. I bought my current pair a few months back and since then. The small silicone right ear piece kept coming off and getting stuck in my ear, I put up with this as it did not bother me to the point were I wanted to take them back and it only happened on the odd occasion. But then came the cold weather. Now when I were them I get shocked at the slightest movement. I even had people in work plug them into their laptops and sit down and stand up and just holding them they also were receiving shock. Now my ears are throbbing from these things and I will never again put them in my ears. I will be taking them back and getting a new pair of noise canceling earphones that will not fry my brain and my ears. I am dissapointed because I loved the original release of these. If the apple store gives me any grief about returning after a number of months I will make them hold my earphones and move around the store. BOOOOOOOOOO!

PS: this is the first ever time I have felt let down by an apple product.

    electro shocks

    Written by HR from Victoria

    Dec 4, 2009

Thought this was just me, but after reading the review of "MM from Ventura" I am almost relieved to find out that these things are in fact giving little electro shocks. My first reaction was, since it sounds a bit like a speck of dust on a vinyl record, that it was an error in the audio file, but then I realized, I don't just hear this, I *feel* it too. Even happier to hear that this seems to be related to -- dry weather...? Not so sure about that, but definitely noticed that it is either happening a lot (i.e. every 10 seconds), or not at all.
Soundwise okay, though not great, and the mic is good enough to use skype on my ipod touch, and that, in the end, is what I wanted.

    Very disappointing

    Written by SY from Bronxville

    Dec 4, 2009

For music lovers who enjoy the depth and complexity of the music they listen to, DON'T BUY THESE HEADPHONES! The sound quality is very poor and has virtually no base at all. I was completely disappointed and returned them the very next day.

I will agree with some of the other posts here in saying that the basic headphones that come with your iPod / iPhone have a MUCH better sound quality than these.

I replaced them with the Bose in-ear headphones and the sound quality is simply amazing.

the title says it all. After 2 months all the rubber has split and the plastic is cracked. Terrible for the sheer amount of money they cost. Sound quality is not bad

Overall i am happy with these headphones.
Great design, great sound quality and i love the packaging.
But some people are saying that they break after a while, i have only had these for a month, and no problems, yet.

    Shocking Sound

    Written by SK from Phoenix

    Dec 3, 2009

Apple In-Ears have a nice, clean, robust sound! Very pleased with the quality!
However... when your environment (or you) starts to build static, the In-Ears happy discharge the build right in your ear. Via the metal cap inside the plugs (Shocking the inside of your ears, it hurts). Again... that only happens when given the right environment for static.

    These Are A++ Headphones

    Written by KC from Arlington

    Dec 2, 2009

These are incredible headphones! They rock! They give the best bass with both headphones in. The mic sounds fairly good. It works as a headset on my LG Dare, but the buttons don't work (for answering (as an example)) I love the fit in the ear. They fit better than the last in- ears which I also liked. I like that they no sit like normal earbuds in the ear. The old headphones look goofy. They are defiantly worth the money even in you headphones with a remote and mic or the old in ears they sound a lot better and the remote is killer. Over all great sound quality and excellent features. I even like the box the came in. It was very tuff. (rigid)

Note: Vice Over in not supported on the iPod Touch 2G

Also Note: I live North of Seattle and go my headphones in three business days with free shipping. I think this is a great time since they came factory direct from China.

BUY THESE HEADPHONES YOU WON'T REGRET IT!

    GREAT! yet kinda stinks

    Written by AD from holland

    Dec 2, 2009

okay so they rock....except for the fact ive had them for less then a year and they kinda fell apart. the little ruber things at the bottom of the buds came off in the first 3 months, and just today the right ear bud just....died....but other than that they rock and i would tottaly recomend them! some suggestions for apple though:

make a pair of headphones that dont tangle or twist around themselves!
somehow make it so the soft attachment of the headphone dosent come of INSANELY EASY!

    other than that they rule!

    Replacement tips

Written by TL from las vegas

    Dec 2, 2009

I was at the beach goofing around and lost one of the silicone tips to my headset. I was bummed to say the least. I went into the Apple store in San Luis Obispbo and explained my dilemma. The sales person said "sorry, we don't carry replacement tips", let me get the manager. The manager had the pleasure of listening to my whiny tale, at the conclusion, she said, "here is a new pair, will that be all for you today?"

I must say I am a Blackberry guy with a Fujitsu PC and based on the customer service at that store alone am strongly considering going full imersion into Apple.

Excellent stuff, btw, the headphones sound really good, that is why I was so bummed.

    No Thanks

    Written by JR from Towcester

    Dec 2, 2009

I was so disappointed when I tried my new headphones. I'd looked into the different models available and decided to go with the Apple originals rather than any other manufacturer. But, I'm taking them back tomorrow. The sound quality is rubbish, they keep falling out of my ears, the right one keeps crackling - horrid. I got out my old headphones that I got with my Ipod mini many years ago and these are 1000 times better. I'd rather stick with them and lose the remote functions than put up with these. I can only assume Apple outsourced the fabrication of these.

    Great while they last...

    Written by DT from Barre

    Dec 1, 2009

I have small ears, and cannot use regular ear buds. My husband got these for my birthday (mid-August) and I used them all the time. The remote volume control never worked from Day 1, but I was not concerned. They fit my ear at the smallest setting, and I was pleased enough with the sound quality, so I let the remote thing go. I was just pleased at finding earbuds that fit.

BUT, it is now the end of November, and I am shopping for a new pair. One side starting getting a buzzing sound, then cut out intermittently, then died altogether.

The fit is there, but the durability is not.

I want to listen to my whole jazz collection again!

Written by AJ from San Diego

    Nov 30, 2009

My brother gave them to me as an early xmas gift, and these headphones are making me rediscover one of my favorite jazz albums: Kind of Blue... I have been listening to it for many years (never on vinyl, sadly) and I have to say it sounds all the more exquisite through these headphones. The double bass now has texture! It feels like the drummer is right next to me, caressing the snare drum with the metal brushes...

The only reason I didn't give these a 5 star rating is because they don't seem like they are going to last too long unless I treat them with lots of TLC. My recommendations: get a cable extension if you can so you won't be yanking on them too much, hold on to the included case, and don't wind them up too tight.

    Peace.

    Really Great earbuds

    Written by RM from Whittier

    Nov 29, 2009

At $79 these are really the best at that price point. Some people may have disappointment in hearing music as it was recorded. I think we are all used to speakers and headsets tuned to set a particualr range of sound. These are neutral. They produce bass when it is really there not just to create it. The separation of instruments is excellent. Overall tonal quality from low to high is the best I have heard at this price range. I do have SE420s and about 8 other types of earbuds, but for the money these really do a great job. Great sounding earbuds and controls that work with my iPhone 3GS is the best I could have hoped for. Try listening to the sound track to the movie 2001: Also Sprach Zarathustra; you won't say they don't go down to subwoofer frequencies after that. One thing about these is really true; they reproduce the sound quality of the mp3 recording. If the recording is not high qualtiy the phones sound bad. These work best with mp3 recorded at higher rates than 120. Try using 250 or 320hz.
