    Great Design. Great Performance.

I've got tons of files, photos and video and I've been running low on storage space lately. Besides I got tired of managing multiple backup drives, so I've opted for this 3TB baby. It's quite heavy due to the thick aluminum enclosure. The design and the build quality are awesome. Transfer speeds are great. I also love that there is a data encryption option, which gives me peace of mind knowing that even if I leave the drive behind somewhere the information contained cannot be accessed and is totally secure.

It is decently fast and quite, nice industrial design with a big thick aluminum heat sink on top, works like a charm with the new usb3 macs, it's second gen usb3 allowing scsi over USB protocol. Very happy with the fanless design, great for musicians or anyone who hates noise.

I'd recommend this drive to anyone who needs a simple, and easy backup system. It was plug-and-play for me and so far I haven't had any issues with it. The backups are faultless with Time Machine and I don't have to worry about my data security, since it can be encrypted with this drive, nor about running out of space - 3TB is an enormous amount of storage capacity to safely save all my files, music, video and photos..

Among the things I appreciate about the design of the Porsche, besides its data transfer speed, is that there is no fan noise (it's not a power hog, so there's no fan) and you can neither hear nor feel the drive vibrating as it comes to speed (this is particularly, um, NOT noticeable if you use the power-saving capability of the preloaded software).

I'm very pleased with this drive - I like the looks of it and the performance is great too. I'm using it to backup my MacBook Pro with Time Machine and it's pretty quick, and perfectly compatible! Have no complaints thus far.

I was looking for a drive that would look good and operate well when connected to my iMac. In the end, I opted for Porsche. It looks like it was designed with my Mac in mind and it works with Time Machine, without any hiccups or issues. I would buy another one of these drives in a heartbeat.

This drive is a nice visual complement to my iMac. It works great as a backup drive. No problems at all. Every time I start up the hard drive icon appears on my desktop without fail. The speeds are excellent, and I can hardly hear the drive spinning, it's very quiet. Would recommend this product without hesitation.

    Great Drive

    • Written by from Gosport

I really like this drive, looks great and works great. The set up is easy thanks to the set up assistant that is pre installed (literally 2 minutes). The drive is near enough silent and even goes to sleep when not in use (not like other drives that I have had that run constantly, which gets really annoying). This is an overall great drive that I would defiantly recommend.

Subject says it all. Sleek, industrial grade design, robust performance, runs quietly with minimal heat and set up is a breeze. Plug and go. Made for a Mac.

This is my second La Cie drive a while back I bought the 2TB and now I have bought the 3TB.
They have two major advantages over other drives I have used. Firstly they operate almost silently important in my music studio. Secondly they compliment the looks of the iMac so well they look as though they had been designed specifically for the purpose by Apple. They are exceedingly simple to set up and then work without fuss and bother continuously. Ideal to use with Time Machine but equally good for general storage.

I got this drive a couple of months ago and I'm very pleased. The transfer speeds are very good with USB3. It's great that there's plenty of storage. I've accumulated lots of video and photos over the years, so I always welcome an opportunity to offload files to an external hard drive. It's also worthwhile mentioning that the drive is very quiet. Overall great product.

This drive looks pretty good next to my Mac, and the 3 TB storage capacity is completely mind-blowing! I figure it will take care of my storage and backup needs for the foreseeable future. For the great design, top quality, and good performance, I give this an easy five stars.

Well.. I've been more of a WD user.. but you know WD just doesn't work all the time (always some driver problems) so I thought for a change.. and LaCie was my first choice.. Don't regret it one bit..

Using Time Machine.. Works nice and fast.. and yes for those who don't want to backup, you can easily change it around no problems.. (partitions, formats, etc)

Only problem I've had is with the recommended software that comes with the hard drive.. My LaCie Integral Software didn't work properly.. but no harm done what so ever.. so I don't really mind..

All in all a brilliant product.. (I'm using a rMBP btw)

I purchased this as a fairly cheap 3TB back up hard drive due to the fact my Mac Time Machine appeared to have failed after 1 year of back ups, and a second Iomega drive also being used for back ups was making horrendous noises.
I cannot speak highly enough of this product, it's quiet, it's easy to use, it looks good and certainly worth the money.

USB 3 not impressively fast and case sometimes hits 90 degrees

    • Written by from OLD BETHPAGE

got this for my new iMac , to use for my iPhoto library. My original Lacie USB 2 was painfully slow and I noticed that iPhoto now runs about twice as fast with USB 3. That's pretty good but it does not impress me, especially after hearing all the marketing talk about how fast USB 3 is supposed to be. Don't get me wrong, this USB 3 drive with 3 TB of storage is a good one to get, especially at this price point but my super large iphoto library still seems slow. I plan to get Thunderbolt in couple months and hope that Thunderbolt will provide the super fast speed i need. It does run quiet like others have said. The case looks great but is a little cheap compared to my older Lacie Quadra drives which are made of thick aluminum. I've had this 3TB USB 3 drive for about two weeks and was shocked at how hot it runs compared to the USB 2 model. The case sometimes feels hot, like around 90 degrees whereas my older Lacie USB2 has always stayed cool to the touch for past two years. So don't stack this with your other USB drives, in case it hits 90 degrees on you.

I love the aluminum look and feel. It protects the drive and helps keep it cool. The brushed aluminum casing is fingerprint-proof. Moreover, connected to my Mac, the drive looks like it's been designed by Apple. It functions perfectly. I would strongly recommend it.

    Just what I needed

I just got this drive and I love it. It feels strong, and is well built. It works great and was pretty simple to setup. I've already put all my backups, photos and music on it. And the Time Machine does the job in spades and relieves me of a potential unexpected data loss headache.
