the zeppelin air sounds as good as it looks. no really, it does. sounds amazing, bass, powerful. crystal clear iPod dock. even at times i have to adjust the bass setting and change equaliser cause too much bass. just shows u its got enough bass. room filling and loud. i thought my hifi was good until i bought a monster beats by dr. beat box. i thought that was great until i bought this beauty.really comes out. even when i am out of my bedroom and on the other side of the wall it sounds great. no wonder its got an award. as for air play. it took ages to set up and even when done it won't play through it and air play icon docent show on my iPhone. and when it works, it keeps cutting off. why can't it be so easy to set up like in airport utility. i wouldn't use it anyway. i just use iPod and aux. a really brilliant piece of tech. may be expensive but its all worth it

Will Not Power Up after Using WiFi

Sounds great BUT the Zeppelin does not stay connected to Air Play/WiFi - then it DOES NOT even power up. The WiFi signal is intermittent at times, but for added frustration, the Air Play lasts the day you set it up, but after that the Zeppelin goes to sleep and you cannot get the power to turn back on - not manually or the by hitting the reset button at the back. You have to re-program the whole system - so basically this is just a docking system. We did as much research on this product as possible, we were looking forward to adding it to the home sound system, but this is not what is advertised - very disappointed.

    Amazing bit of sound technology

Like many of you reading these reviews, I too had been here lusting after a Zeppelin Air. The downside for me was the price. However, on Black Friday, Apple knocked £101 off the price which made it too good to resist, so I bought one!

The network setup was a little tricky and I had to rename my wireless network as the Zeppelin wouldn't connect. Managed to sort it out and since then the Zeppelin wireless connection has been rock solid. I'm using an Airport Extreme as my wireless router.

The sound is incredible provided you feed the Zeppelin quality music. Music at lower bit rates sound a bit tinny and empty. To get the best sound, I re-ripped my entire CD collection to Apple Loseless format, and the sound is so amazing. rich, and full of life, you can hear everything in perfect clarity.

Definitely worth buying if you want the ultimate in acoustic perfection, but be prepared to re-rip to get the best sound :)

this sound is great. if you like warm sound & harmony of sounds, especially emphasized bass, zeppelin air may be the best choice. but there is one big problem. yes, you already know, the Airplay. the linkage between iProduct & Zeppelin Air are disconnected well. although i solved the problem, i didn't know how i solved it because of solving it just modifying the setting of my wireless router. i don't understand why b&w solves this problem. i think they know this problem already.

Like most Wi-Fi enabled add-ons it is hit and miss. I have got a Netgear rooter, set up took all of 5mins and never had a prblem. Sound is great as well.

Buy it, try it....take it back if it does not work, i had to do that with 4 wi-fi printers in the past, as i said hit and miss in the wi-fi world.

I decided to buy this after reading the reviews, finding the only negative was setting up the speaker. I found the entire process to be quick and painless. After hooking my ethernet cable to the speaker and opening the web address given in the instructions, I was on my wireless network within a minute or two. I then used a USB cable to update the firmware, which was very well explained and, again, worked exactly as described in a matter of a few minutes. I'm not sure why this was such an issue for others; I experienced no problems at all. From this point, connecting wirelessly, docked, and by USB from my iMac all worked flawlessly.

The sound, in my opinion, is very good. Depending on what you are listening to, the bass can be a little heavy. I agree with some of the others that when using an iPod with recordings that are heavy on bass, the bass reducer setting may be better. In most cases, though, I prefer no adjustment at all. Overall, these are much better than my previous Bose setup. I own Shure SE535 earphones, which I really like. This gives me something reasonably equivalent to listen to my music on when I don't want to wear earphones. I highly recommend this product. You get what you pay for.

I just purchased this product at the Apple store in Houston. Been playing music through it for about 8 hours now. Set up the air play feature as instructed and there was no issue. The only thing I've found so far is if you try to adjust the volume through the volume slider on iTunes, it automatically goes to the loudest setting on the zeppelin, even if you don't turn it up that far on the computer. Scares me because I don't want to bust the speakers. Also, I find the quality of the sound (as far as equalizer settings) sounds better through the docked iPhone. I was constantly having to play with the equalized through iTunes to get a sound i liked.

As someone mentioned on another review, this product sounds amazing with acoustic guitars. Bluegrass music sounds AMAZING! Piano solo music from Pandora sounds amazing as well. I don't care for the quality of the bass on pop music. Perhaps it's just the placement of the unit in my room that's the issue because many people say they think it sounds great. This replaced a 10 year old bose wave radio that I really love. The Zeppelin sounds much, much better. It does seem that you have to listen to the zeppelin at a higher volume to hear it at its best. May be something to consider if you are using it in a smaller room.

Wow just bought this thing and I am blown away. Its not apple easy to set up but rather fool proof. You can set up and stream on any WiFi. Ethernet cable needed to connect to a computer (not your router!) only on the initial set up. (Its included in box) Only cable required to be plugged in is the power cable. I like the no wires airplay feature. Soo far its been flawless. Seems pricey but when you hear it you will understand why.

    Easy Set Up, Great Sound!

The setup was quick--following the step-by-step instructions. I was easily able to power up the unit, join my wireless network, and start playing music within 5 minutes of plugging it in. The only problem was when testing the speaker for the first time the sound was apparently set very high--problem woke up a few of my neighbors too early in the morning. In the Zeppelin's defense, the sound was very clear even at such a high level.

My only concern is that the speaker is quite large, though the sound and features won overall and made it easy to accept it into my smaller apartment. I had considered the Zeppelin Mini, but having Airplay built-in and the sound difference made the Zeppelin Air a clear winner. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND this speaker to anyone considering it!

Looks nice but continues to drop the network

I bought this unit for Black Friday and had it set up all week. Not once in the whole time did AirPlay work for a whole song.

I first set it up with the default Firmware and followed the instructions. I had my network hidden and used WPA2 Wireless Security. The B&W would could not find my network. I un hid my network and the B&W finally found it. Once the Zepplin was all set up I tried using it via Airplay. The music would play for about 5 seconds and then the Airplay would drop and I would have to restart the Zepplin to find it again on Airplay. I tried with my MBP, iPhone 4S and iPad2 all with the same results. So, I updated the Firmware to 1.3.3. With the update I could 'almost' make it through a song before it was dropped. I repeated this several times in several rooms across my house. No Joy.

The sound is great when it is playing and it looks great but alas I bought it for the iPlay functionality not the looks. I am returning this unit as completely unhappy with it.

Note: I currently stream my music to Living Room via Airplay and AppleTV and office using Airport Extreme and an Amp. With excellent results. I wanted a portable unit to move to other rooms and the deck.

I will keep looking for a decent unit.

Don't Listen To People Who Can't Set Up Airplay

This product is amazing. It is unlike anything you have ever heard from an iPod dock. I have a small house and it easily fills the entire thing with sound. Everyone who whines about not being able to set it up with Airplay are the same people who have trouble setting up anything electronic. If you can read and follow directions and you have updated your router in the last 7 years then you will have no issues setting up Airplay. How you can give a product 1 star because you are not smart enough to set up a wireless feature is beyond me.

Today I went to buy my wife a new iPod dock and intended to spend around £300, but on comparing many docks (high end docks actually playing from my iPod) we ended up with only one choice the B&W Zeppelin Air. If that’s not enough to convince you, we already own the original Zeppelin and a Zeppelin mini. The sound quality of this device is even better than the original. The looks and quality of this device raise the bar in every way.
The functionality of airplay is brilliant and very easy to use using the "remote app" and will play from shared iTunes libraries and what’s even better it wakes from standby when iTunes asks it to. When playing via airplay the volume seems to need to bet set slightly higher than having the iPod docked but this very minor and only noticed because I look for faults in any new piece of kit.
My wife's 8Gb Nano does not support airplay so I bought her an iPod touch 32Gb as well.
Simple conclusion, for me to go from a budget of £300 to spending about £730 (iPod + Zeppelin Air) the kit has to be good and that is why I’m writing this review.

    Great speakers

I too was puzzled in getting these or the Bose SoundDock 10. Bought both for comparison at home in a quiet room. Bose is going back to store. Zeppelin Air hands down won the race in all aspects. Wireless setup was a breeze. Not sure why people are having problems. I just plugged in to my Time Capsule and AirPlay connected in a sec.

Different LED indicators are a bit tricky but once you read the manual, you would know everything.

Transmitting Apple Lossless via AirPlay is great, way better than bluetooth. very detailed sound, punchy bass, but if you are true audiophile, and want to hear your music as it is meant to be heard, get Sennheiser HD800 headphones and a good tube amp/DAC. As far as these speakers go, it delivers what promises.

I am not sure how these will be compare to Philips Fidelio SoundSphere (twice the price) when they are on sale in Europe sometimes in May.

B&W Greatness, but has some low freq sonic issues.

    • Written by from Lynbrook

The sound overall is VERY impressive, and at times with the right recordings & apple lossless format are AMAZING! The D/A Converter and separate amps for each driver may account in part for the superior over the original Zeppelin.

The Sub creates to much bass of which can become muddy at times.
It may be the cross-over placing too much music on 50 Watt Sub (away from the mids) or a DSP Bass issue.
The 'Sub' takes on more of the music then it can playback cleanly.
With certain musical passages this 'thudsy' like sound is not at all apparent.
(certain electronic space music or certain rock songs with vocals)

Reading that people are lowering the bass eq or raising the treble on their ipod is a mistake cause NO Eq should be used with the Zeppelin Air! (needs to be off)
(this according to B&W, due to its own complex internal DSP)

Listening to the Rolling Stones "lady Jane" on the Zeppelin Air was s t u n n i n g.

The 'lower end' sounds over the top sound that often overwhelms the mids!!
Rating it 3 stars, based on my unit with major glitch and with the low end sound being less then high end like.

    An Amazing Product....

Whilst the initial set-up of the Zeppelin Air was not as intuitive as I would have liked (it took me a handful of attempts to finally connect it to my wireless network), the aesthetics and build quality of the product are outstanding and the sound is in a totally different league to the other iPod Docks that I have sampled (Bose, Logitech etc..).

Controlling the Zeppelin via my iPhone or iPad could not be easier using the Remote App (available from the App Store) and you may be forgiven to think that this device can only play music from your iTunes library, but you can also play podcasts, radio stations or content from Spotify if you have an account.

If you want un-rivalled looks and sound from your iPod Dock, this is the product for you and I'm really glad that I stretched my budget to accommodate the Zeppelin Air.

So I purchased this because I know it's the best of the best - and it sounds great in the Apple Store. However, I lugged it home only to find out that it would not produce any sound. I was baffled. I called B&W support and they told me I'm one of the rare instances where the voltage in my house is just above 120V and the unit will not operate. So, I had to spend another $50 on a voltage regulator to plug it into. A little annoyed.
