    Brilliant sound Woeful setup

    • Written by from Brunswick East

Despite the B&W app and the setup instructions this device, in fact other B&W devices that AirPlay, is one of the most convoluted to set up. I've moved house twice with B&W sound equipment to set up and both times I've lost hair!

That being said, I and my housemates just love the sound quality, we love the app so that we can create play lists and share music, and without exception our friends have been amazed with the Zeppelin.

5 Stars for sound quality and use, 1 Star for setup.

    Looks Great....BUT

    • Written by from Scotland Island

Stopped working after a couple of weeks, power failure apparently quite common.
Still waiting to hear from Bowers & Wilkins having submitted a request 3 weeks ago on their website. Got in touch with the Sydney distributer who replaced the unit. I now have a flashing red light, which according to B&W means the unit has gone into protect mode and requires servicing!! As I said in the title a great looking system but rather an expensive ornament!

Speaker quality awesome but airplay setup a headache

It took me more than two hours to finally succeed to turn the device light into purple so that I could setup the airplay feature. The sound is truly extraordinary but I just hope not to have to reset the wireless connection all over again...

Like many I did not have a good start with my unit. It just would not do wifi. Scouring through the net I found out that the unit only works in wireless G mode and my modem was set to only transmit wireless N. So I changed the setting on my modem to run both N and G and viola...I have experienced the occassional drop out but not often enough to be a pain. All I can say is that it is an unbelievably great sounding unit with great mid, highs and lows emitting from all the B&W high tech speakers. No problem connecting my old IPod, iPad or just straight from to the unit. My only gripe is the absence of Bluetooth, which would be heaven sent especially if you do not want friends to log on to your wifi just to play music from their phones.

    Airplay just does not work

Frequent interruptions of music played over airplay is a massive letdown. Firmware updates and emails to customer support are just a waste of time. I would not buy it again.

Bought myself these speakers a year ago. The sound is great the shape is large and cumbersome. You cant place them close to a wall as the quality of sound drops and they do not work well unless plugged into the wifi box!

Had been looking around for a new iPod dock for sometime so I ventured to my local apple store and after previous shopping around i picked up this mammoth! Weighing in at just under a stone; it is a beast.

Aesthetically it is stunning, like nothing else, shopping around you can see other companies have tried to channel the Zeppelin's looks but nothing matches in my opinion!

Now for sound, the first play I was hesitant, anyone would be since it has to live up to the £500 price tag and boy...did it not! Highs are precise without any noticeable sibilance, the treble sparkles and that bass, oh my, I feel sorry for my neighbours, that's all I'm saying! Looking at other reviews on the web I had high hopes, but in person it shatters your hopes as you would never expect it to be that good!

AirPlay is also a welcome feature, I was slightly apprehensive due to other reviews saying it was 'fiddly' to set up, but for me, by following the included booklet, it was done in under 5 minutes and that is now my computer, iPhone and iPad all ready play with the Zeppelin!

Overall, a beyond 5 star package, would definitely recommend this over anything else in terms of value for money, audio quality and the overall package! Compared to the Zeppelin other docks lack a certain, excitement, something that I find a must if you wish to enjoy your music! Must buy.

Great sound; bit finicky on network connection

Overall I'm still extremely happy with my Zeppelin Air. It has superb sound -- really amazing for its form factor. Even at louder volumes we're happy. However, it does fall off our network fairly often. It's a good distance from an access point, so I suspect it would be less of a problem if it were closer. I have an Altec Lansing inAir that seems to have some of the same issues with wireless, so I'm not sure how much better the competition is. If your Zeppelin is close to its source it probably won't be too much of a problem.

    Advantages Of Zeppelin

I have been waiting for Bowers & Wilkins to begin selling the A5 and A7 Airplay speakers. In the meantime I spent a lot of time comparing the specs to the Zeppelin Air that was released last year. In the end I bought the Zeppelin at the beginning of October 2012. It's a crackerjack and I think better value for money than the A7. That said the Zeppelin arrived without the latest software that I downloaded and then proceeded to walk through the steps with the BW App, but despite following the direction to the letter airplay failed to work. After a few emails to England, their support staff told me to reboot my router. Bingo!!

All in all I top notch product and must be one of the best airplay systems for the IPhone or IPod.

    Great speaker!!!!!

Makes your music on your iPhone sound great but you have to use decent music. "But my music sounds muddy on it"... yes your lime wire, free 40kbps will sound bad almost every speaker. I use a aux cord from my mac and some 96000kHz/24bit music. There is not a time I use this speaker and am not impressed. Plus if you don't like it, take it back and get your cash back. You have 30 days. Or if in the rare case you get a bad egg. Take it back and get a new one. No questions asked. The bass is not as punchy as the Bose of the same price. The quality of sound, however, is far better. So if you want to hear details in your music you never known where there. Go B&W. If you just want a speaker to play loud, thumping music for parties. Go Bose. Or, if you can, just go listen to them both.

Good sound, poor all around otherwise

Other than the good sound, there is great difficulty in its formula to connect to your wifi, and very poor performance if you do. Intermittent play at best, not consistent as with my bluetooth experience.
The remote control and buttons on the speakers work poorly and are often non responsive.
The speakers default to tv play when a video or youtube media is play, thereby only giving sound.
Software restore would not fix my no longer working wifi connection in the unit, and support said I had to send it in to have it looked it.
    I sold it as is

Best small speaker system I've heard

Doesn't quite have the sound of B&W's 800 series :), but still sounds incredible for something that weighs little over 6kg. It certainly surprises visitors when such an impressive (and balanced) sound is produced from a deceptively small system. And as for AirPlay, its fantastic; plays in perfect sync with an Apple TV and Airport Express to fill the whole house with sound; though I have now learnt where the Wi-Fi antenna on an iPad 3 is; if you cover it, the music stops, so i'd recommend controlling iTunes using Apple's Remote app.

The set up app was a breeze and the price is easily justified, even if, like me, you won't use the dock on the front.

Wireless Dropout on Some Routers - Solved

    • Written by from Pyrmont

0 of 1 people found this useful

On some routers DHCP renew can cause the Zeppelin to disconnect from an audio stream. To avoid any disconnect configure the router to issue a fixed IP address to the Zeppelin. The router will use either a DHCP Client Name or MAC Address of the Zeppelin to make this happen. Consult the router manual for further details on the implementation.

    Wireless is difficult

    • Written by from Oakland

The sound is fine when it works. The wireless feature part no longer works because it needs the famous firmware upgrade. I have been hearing about firmware upgrades since the dawn of the computer age. It usually means the gadget doesn't work right. It was fine when I first set it up but after moving and trying to connect to a new network, it is impossible. Overpriced.

Airplay setup was complicated, but once setup works flawlessly. I originally purchased to use as an iPhone dock, but find I mainly use for airplay steaming from macs and the iPhone.

By far, Best iPod dock on the market!

I shopped around for 6 months for a top of the line iPod Speaker System, and this was by far the best built, best sounding and best value for money. This system has very high quality sound, a sense of warmth and depth to the music, and BASS that is not overpowering but perfectly proportional to the volume. My only downside would be in party situations where it is on full volume - 150 watts is not really enough, as it could be a bit louder, with people acting as sound absorbers. However, this is an unbelievable system that I use everyday because I love discovering a new depth to my music, and the sound produced can't help but encapsulate you into listening. Not a iPod dock to be overlooked...

Had and loved the 1st zeppelin but fancied the air play option. Happily bought the new Zeppelin Air after seeing that nothing else came close to it on the market for all around class! Absolutely simple to set up it really was child's play! Can't understand how people have slated it on setting up! Maybe they have old useless wifi! Ready in minutes for playing music via my iPhone and iPad. Faultless sound and easy of use! Very happy!!

    Incredible Product

These speakers deliver amazing quality sound and the customer service is second to none. I recently had a small issue and upon return of the product, found that they had replaced damaged external parts and extended the warranty as a gesture of goodwill - unheard of from its more mainstream counterparts - Bose etc. If you are looking for fantastic acoustics delivered through a beautifully designed and built product, the Zeppelin Air is definitely for you!

    Great sound but...

    • Written by from Saskatoon

13 of 16 people found this useful

The unit has amazing sound but they seem to be having some technical problems with them. Mine needed repair during the warranty but it still cost me shipping charges to their Quebec repair centre and the hassle of dealing with an expensive docking unit that failed within six months of purchasing it.

After doing some research I found that several people appear to have had similar problems.

B & W took care of the problem without question, but there was still the hassle of shipping and receiving a large docking unit (that I didn't expect to have any problems with).

If you want great sound and don't mind dealing with problems I'd recommend this unit. If they have an upgrade that fixes this problem the unit deserves five stars.

Sounds Great - Wireless Drops Regularly

    • Written by from Pittsford

I've owned the Zeppelin Air for 10 months and agree with many users that the sound is fantastic but the wireless functionality is unreliable at best - certainly frustrating.

I've used with three different wireless modems in two different apartments (and separate internet providers) with little distance between modem and Zeppelin.

I've implemented the update with no improvement. The thing drops out to the point where I can't get through a single song.

For the money, this is not worth it.

BW should stop selling this unit since it clearly hasn't committed to a solid fix after all this time and selling such a flawed product damages its reputation.

Compression in the BOSE units leads to poorer fidelity, however, at least BOSE has a more reliable technology.

    Do not buy this unit.
