I found through Apple support that Macbooks made before 2010 do not support sound using the hdmi mini port adapter. You must use a vga cable to the headphone jack in addition to the mini hdmi adapter to hear sound through your media center. This solution does work for us.

Best AnswerThunderbolt and Mini display port are the same connector!
Any of the Mini display port adapters can be plugged into the Thunderbolt port.
Once Thunderbolt drives are available you will have to daisy chain displays and drives off the one Thunderbolt connector.- Answered by Jason S from Waverley

This has the proper pins for DVI-D Dual-Link. Will this work with a 2048x1152 display?
According to wikipedia, this adapter has the proper pinout for DVI-D Dual-Link... however I've seen reports that it is in fact only Single-Link. My monitor (2k by 1k) is over the threshold for dual-link. Is this pinout misleading?

I want to connect my macbook to our Samsung lcd television, is this the right cable?
- Asked by Darren B

Best AnswerYes, as long as you meet two requirements:
(1) You have the new series of MacBook Pros with the mini display plug, which is significantly smaller than the old mini DVI plugs.
(2) You purchase a cable that has one male DVI-D end (to plug into this adapter) and one male HDMI end (to plug into the TV). There are two types of DVI-D cables. This will only carry single-link, although both types will physically plug in and work.
p.s. This type of cabling system will not carry audio to your TV since DVI-D cannot carry audio, so you will need to hook an external sound source to your MPB if you want greater sound than your computer speakers can produce.- Answered by Tony B

AnswerCorrect. This should not be a problem with dual ports as its sending separate information to each port and theyre not dependent on each other.
However the screen resolution may be max on each display.- Answered by Randy A from Avondale

Need to connect MacBook Pro with mini display port to projector for showing powerpoint presentations. Will the Mini DisplayPort to DVI adapter work?

Best AnswerDepends, on what inputs you have on your projector. If your projector has HDMI then you will need to buy Mini Displayport to DVI adapter and a DVI adapter to HDMI cable.
If your projector has DVI-D input then this will itself work like a charm- Answered by Dhruv M from Plymouth Meeting

How do I connect an old Apple Studio Display (with Apple Display Connector) to a new mac mini (with mimi display port)?
- Asked by Richard M from Richardson
- Jan 23, 2011

AnswerTo connect a Mac Mini with a Mini DisplayPort or Thunderbolt port to an old Apple Studio display with an Apple Display connector, you would need to find an Apple Display Connector to DVI Adapter (Apple used to sell one but they don't now.) and then you would buy a Mini Displayport to DVI adaptor.
The newer Mac Minis also have an HDMI Port, you could buy an Apple Display Connector to DVI Adapter and then you would buy an HDMI to DVI adaptor.- Answered by Sam R

is there a device that i can get that connects my macbook to my 36 inch LCD television?
- Asked by Ruby D from Vancouver
- Nov 20, 2009
- Flag as inappropriate
Best AnswerIf your LCD television includes HDMI ports, you can use this adaptor in combination with a DVI-HDMI cable. If you don't have HDMI ports, you should instead get the Composite Video adaptor, and use the standard yellow video socket to connect it. This will be lower resolution, and is not digital. You will also probably want to get a headphone jack to RCA cable from your local HiFi store, to pass audio through to the TV, as it will otherwise come out of the macbook's built in speakers.
