what cable needed to go from macbook video out to tv d-sub cable

I have a 5th Gen. iPod w/ video, I want to watch videos and movies that I've downloaded on it. Is this what I need?

I just recv'd my device and have downloaded some music videos and movies to view on my ipod in my travels. They are all in correct format that's compatible with my iPod however, when attempting to sync the movies it refuses ( the movies are in my library and can be played on my computer, but won't sync to the ipod). With the music videos it syncs it into the iPod but won't play it, instead it shows a request to connect "AV output accessory", and for the music videos. Is this what they are refferring to?? If yes, is their an inexpensive alternative to this kit, I would think I just needed this cable, right?

I can download a movie from itunes and it plays on iPhone 3GS as expected. Will this cable also let the MOVIE play on the TV?

If so, in what "quality"?

I'm mainly concerned about the the blurb mentions watching videos or slideshows and from what I can see does not necessarily discuss watching anything else.

I have an iPod 4th Gen. When connected by the component cable there is no output to the TV the iPod displays "connect video accessory".

The 30 pin connector seems to work fine with the computer connection when 'syncing' with iTunes. The connections are as described in the manual for the iPod and the component cable box to the TV. Any help here will be greatly appreciated.
