Answer
You definitely could as many people already use iRig like this to connect an external preamp for a professional mic. IK Multimedia is coming out with a cool new iRig PRE, which allows you to connect a professional XLR microphone to y our iOS device. Its not out yet but you can already check it out on IK's website.

Does this work with Garage Band on an iPad?

Answer
Yes. This iRig Mic will plug into the iPad and work with GarageBand for iPad. The iRig Mic will work with any app that will accept an audio input, for example, any karaoke app, iMovie, the iPhone video camera app, and more. The iRig plug adapter (guitar/bass) will also work with GarageBand, so you can record your instruments into that app as well.

will this plug into a mac and work for garageband ???
- Asked by Andrew S from Manhattan Beach

Answer
It will, so long as your Mac is of a model produced in the last few years. Older macs do not support the 'headphones + mic' type of plug used on more recent Apple gear. The best way to find out if your particular Mic will work well with this is to check if the tech specs from your model include support for 'Apple headset with remote and mic'. All current generation Macs except for the Mac Pro, do include this feature.

What application does this work with on an iPod Touch?
I'm looking into getting an iPod Touch 8G and want to do some recording while I travel. Will the iRig work to record with the iPod Touch? Do I need to download an application? If yes, which one? Thanks!

Answer
Any application which can record from standard apple Headset with Mic, as this is effectively the same thing in a dedicated unit. Any of the recording apps on the app store will do, or you can use the Voice Memos app included preinstalled on some devices.

Will this iRig mic work with ipod touch 4th gen & the SpeechTrans Ultimate Powered by Nuance?
I just bought SpeechTrans Ultimate app and it says I need to use a microphone headset to make it work. Wish I knew that before purchasing the app or the ipod. Wondered if this would work better since there are two people talking back and forth thru this app.

Answer
If the SpeechTrans Ultimate software supports the standard Apple Headset with Mic, it will work with this microphone - which effectively replace the 'microphone' component of any headphones, with it's own dedicated unit.

Can you record and connect it to a speaker at the same time?
I want to be able to hear songs (without words) and record them at the same time. It only seems to work with headphones right now but I think if I connect to speakers, I will be able to hear (without headphones) and record at the same time.
