  • Which choice is best for a high school student: the Macbook Air and iPad 4th generation or the Macbook Pro and iPad Mini?

I have just started high school this year and have been doing so well that my parents had decided to get me better electronics for my school needs. I have a budget and so I had to choose between the two above choices. I've been having such a hard time choosing because there are just too many factors too consider; I want a great Mac that can last me 'till the end of high school and an iPad I can use everyday for things like games, music, emailing, facebook and movies but mostly for reading and school (textbooks, etc...) Please help me choose!!!

    Ok,

I would DEFINITLY go with the macbook pro and iPad mini since one is kinda big and one is kinda small. Also, remember that the macbook air is REALLY light and it doesn't take discs. Also, there was this story of a stupid guy who threw his macbook air out because it was so light. NEVER do that. That would be terrible.

    So ipad mini:
    Smaller
    easier to carry

    iPad with Retina display
    retina display
    faster
    bigger screen

    Mac Air:
    light
    can go REALLY small

Mac pro: (I would suggest the one with retina display
    retina display (if wanted)
    takes discs
not as light and easy to break
if heavier not as easy to break

  • MacBook Air vs MacBook Pro with retina display

I am going into high school next year, and I know I'll need a new laptop, but I'm debating between the MacBook Air and the MacBook Pro with Retina display 13in. I would upgrade the processor on both models, and the RAM on the air. I don't know how much faster the MacBook Pro with retina would be though. I program in X-code (cocoa), would run Boot Camp, Use FCPX, and Logic Pro 9 as well as other basic programs for school. I know I can't afford the 15in MacBooks which are much faster, so I don't know if there would be much difference between the two. Thanks in advanced!

To use AirPlay from a Mac, you must be using Mac OS X Mountain Lion (10.8). Just go to the AppStore and download, and install the latest version.

  • airplay dropouts

if I purchase a new Airport Express, with 802.11n, to replace my older one, will that solve my problem with dropouts while I am streaming from my brand-new iMac, to my brand-new Airport Extreme 802.11n, to the Airport Express (and from there to my stereo)?

What I have my stereo plugged into now is an older A1264 Airport Express, S/N 6F822189ZP8. Since I installed my new Airport Extreme I've been getting intermittent dropouts that make trying to listen to music via WiFi pointless and frustrating. Before I installed the Airport Extreme I did not experience dropouts. Before that I had a much older Airport Extreme -- the dome-shaped one.

My iMac also connects with the Airport Extreme; that is, it is not hardwired to the router.

    Thank you

    Scott

    Answer

This is a reply to Rick... I am sorry -- I have not been able to fix the problem. I'd spent a long time looking online before I posted my query, and one of the suggestions was that having WiFi that worked at both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz was the problem -- the idea was that sticking only to 2.4 GHz was the answer. Clearly that's not it. Other people have said that the only way to fix this is to hardwire (from the Airport Extreme) into the Airport Express. My understanding of what is happening is not sophisticated, but it seems that other WiFi signals in my neighborhood are causing the dropouts, although all of us have password-protected networks. The dropouts are worse in the evenings when more people are home. It also seems, sometimes, that connecting to a web page can cause a dropout. The next thing I'll try is buying a new Airport Express (so every component of my system is fully up to date), and if that does not work I guess I'll try hardwiring. --Scott

  • Difference between Macbook Pro with Retina Display and the new Macbook Air?

As the new Macbook Pro doesn't come with a disk drive and the original Macbook air doesn't come with a disk drive at all, what is the difference? They differ from price therefore, I would like to know the difference.

    Hi Krysta,

There is a lot of difference between the MBP (Macbook Pro) and the MBA (Macbook Air) aside from the price and the ports. For starters, the MBP features a high resolution 15" display (everything you see on the screen will be super sharp and crisp). The MBA is about 1.5lbs lighter than the MBP and as you've stated it does not have a dvd drive. MBP is meant for people who will be working a lot with video or photography, things that require a lot of processing power, think a fast car. MBA is more for the casual user who will only use the laptop for general every day things like surfing the web, uploading pictures, chatting with friends, etc. The MBP will also have more storage space assuming you are sticking with the base models (meaning you aren't planning on making any upgrades). Hope that helps. If you have questions you can always walk into an Apple store and test out the machines and ask the sales people there.

  • Which is better for gaming, MacBook Pro or MacBook Air?

I want to get a MacBook for school and I also want it to play stuff like Minecraft lets say Garry's Mod or something, but I want a good price since I searched the entire Internet and all what I found was Alienware which is bad for working and school stuff. So which is better, Pro with NVIDIA graphics or Air with just the standard Intel graphics? since they both have Core i5 or Core i7.

    Answer

MacBook Pro has a better prosesscor than MacBook Air so MacBook Pro can improve game

  • what PRINTER works with a iphone4s

I have a iphone4s, 16g. I need to print photo's, & emails, & other documents. I have a Canon MP830 Printer, scanner, Fax Machine. Is that printer capable w/my iphone4s to print? I tried connecting just the iphone4s cable that came with cell phone, plug one end into the end of iPhone and plug the other USB end into the Canon USB port, but the printer says it does not recognize the device when I plug the cord into the printer. Do I need to install a app into my iphone4s to be able to print. Do I need to use a different kind of connector cable that plugs in at the end of my iphone4s to the Canon MP830 Printer USB port? What do I put the printer settings on to make sure my iphone4s cell can print. Do I have to buy a completely different printer just to print from my iphone4s? Or is a device I can purchase to hook my iphone up to with a cable connector to my MP830 Printer to be able to print.
This is very frustrating, I have had this cell phone over a year and haven't been able to print from it. I heard I would have to purchase a Air Printer to be able to print anything off of my iphone4s. If that is a true statement, please let me know. If that is the only way to print from my iphone, I will not keep this service or iphone4s any longer.
I also, have a Canon PIXMA iP2700 (2702) Series Printer, please let me know if I can possibly download photo's from my iphone4s Cell Phone to that printer to USB and what type of USB Cable may or may not work.

Thank you for your time and understanding concern!

  • I'm considering a laptop for my small business - which is better, MacBook Pro or MacBook Air?

I'm ready to ditch the desktop, and want to know which is the better laptop for me, Pro or Air? Our office has a central server to store our files, so storage is not a big concern. But weight/size is not a big concern either, since I would be carrying it around campus, just from my car to the office.

Main programs I'll be running are e-mail, web browsing, MS Word, Excel. I'll be doing lots of word processing and staring at the screen all day. I do occasionally need to view docs/files on a CD or DVD, but not very often. Not much video or photos. No games (just work).

Do I want a bigger screen - Pro with 15"? Or is the flash drive on the Air all its cracked up to be and worth the small screen? Are both keyboards equally good? Again, I'll be doing LOTS AND LOTS or typing. And do I want RETINA DISPLAY - is it worth the extra $? To save $, I'm considering a refurbished model for whichever I buy.

Thanks in advance for your feedback!!!

    Answer

With what you would use your Macbook for, the Macbook Air would be a better choice. Screen size isn't to important when doing word processing, emailing, or web-browsing. The air does have the FLASH storage as you said, which is very good. It can be up to four times (4x) faster than HHD storage (The one the Macbook Pro uses). If you need to use CDs/ DVDs, you can always bye the Apple USB SuperDrive. Also, the FLASH Storage will allow the MacBook Air to hold up a lot longer than the Pro. The MacBook Air and MacBook Pro are the same cost, so if I were you I would definitely go with the MacBook Air. Both Keyboards are basically the same. (Apple is known for having the best keyboards.) The Pro Retina is actually similar to the air despite it's name. It has FLASH storage, and no CD/DVD drive either. The Pro Retina is better than the air, but also more expensive. for what your using it for, the Air would be a better choice.

PS. A refurbished Macbook Air is almost as good as a new one. I would highly recommend buying Apple Certified Refurbished.

  • I am a forensic psychology major, Macbook Air or Mac book pro?

I currently have the the 13in Macbook Pro which is very bulky and I cant carry it to class all time. I was thinking about getting the Macbook Air.

I was wondering which one you think would be better. I plan on going forward with my Masters and teaching degree.

    Thanks for you help :)

    Answer

If the only problem with the MacBook Pro is the bulkiness, then I would recommend the MacBook Air. Also remember that there is no CD (SuperDrive) in the MacBook Air (The same goes for the new Retina MacBook Pro's).
