Architecture student wanting to use a MacBook Pro
Hi, I'm an architecture student and I want to get a something portable, which I can use for university stuff and my own personal stuff.
The kind of software I use is ArchiCad, Autocad, Rhino, Microstation, Adobe Photoshop, Indesign.. etc...
I know that it is fairly big software which uses a lot of memory. Some of the software (such as AutoCad) is in my opinion much better suited to Windows, but others for Mac. My idea was to get a Mac and split the hard drive to have half windows, half mac.
Also being a student I have limited funds.
So I guess I have 2 questions:
1. Is splitting the hardrive a good idea and will it work?
2. If I do split it how big a computer do I need to get for it still to function quickly and well?
I think 17inch screen is unnecessarily large. So i'm torn between getting a 13inch and a 15inch. Am I better off spending money on a higher spec 13 inch or a lower spec 15 inch?- Asked by Thomas H

Which is the best product for a freelancer?
I have recently set myself up as a freelance PR and marketing professional and need to buy a new laptop to take on client visits as well as working on whilst travelling. I am currently working on a very good PC laptop (with an i7 processor) at home with a large screen but it is not really portable. Additionally I am an avid photographer and am hoping to use the new laptop for both work and personal photographic assignments.
I am new to Apple and would appreciate your thoughts.- Asked by Mathilde B

not sure which macbook pro 13" or maybe a 15" to get
I am in college and would be using it for itunes, games, fb, and documents. I want a faster computer than I have now, and am tired of my windows computer locking up all the time. Also what software would I need to be able to use documents and powerpoint? I was thinking maybe a refurbished 15" because of cost and bigger screen, I have a 15" now and like the screen size, is there really that much of a difference?
Thank you- Asked by Patricia B from Little Chute

Do Adobe CS6 programs work on new MacBook Pros?
I'm planning on getting a MacBook Pro, mainly for music, video, and animation making/editing, and I'd wanted to get some Adobe programs as well. The thing is, I don't want to be part of the Creative Cloud thing, so will DVD-ROMs of Flash CS6
or Photoshop CS6 work on the new MacBook Pros?- Asked by Adam B from Hampstead

College Student: Should I get a MBA or a MBP?
Hi, I'm a high school student and in a couple months I'll be going to college with a major in Biotechnology. I'm going to be taking a lot of math and science classes, and probably a couple engineering classes, and I'm planning on getting a minor in something like Criminology. On top of that, I like using my laptop for surfing the internet, downloading movies, holding my 1,000+ iTunes library, and sometimes playing graphics intense games (Sims 3 with all extensions, Amnesia, Assassin's Creed, etc.) Which laptop and size would be best for my needs?
Thanks!- Asked by Mary J from Temecula

Which is better for a college student: a MacBook Air or MacBook Pro?
I'll be starting college in the fall, and I want to buy my own laptop to use. I don't really understand the difference between the Air and Pro. I'll be studying Spanish, and I'll need the computer for projects/papers, music (I have about 1,200 songs in my library), apps, and social networking sites. Which one would be better for me? I don't need an extremely fast laptop, but I'd prefer one faster than a desktop computer.

MacBook Pro or MacBook Air for me, and what customisations?
I currently have an early 2011 13" MBP baseline model, so 4gb RAM, 2.3Ghz i5. With the release of the latest MacBook Air models I've become more and more envious of their beautiful, thin, and lightweight design. I'm considering selling my MBP and getting a 13" MBA but i'm not sure if it will meet my needs.
I will mainly use it for:
- Essays, uni work
- Web browsing, facebook etc
- Some gaming - Team fortress 2, diablo 3, stronghold 3. These all work fine on my MBP at the moment. Maybe minecraft too (haven't used this on the pro yet)
- iTunes
I realise people often jump straight to the MBP over the MBA for gaming, but for me, the portability and aesthetics of the air is actually very important, so if the air can cope with the games I want it to manage, I'd much prefer it.
If you think I could use the air for this, I was thinking the 128gb model (I don't think storage space is much of a problem? Most of my storage is currently taken up by iTunes films which i can delete and download as required) possibly with an upgrade to 8GB of RAM. Do you think this would be ok or would I need the higher model with more processor power?
Please reply!- Asked by Melanie R

I'm considering a laptop for my small business - which is better, MacBook Pro or MacBook Air?
I'm ready to ditch the desktop, and want to know which is the better laptop for me, Pro or Air? Our office has a central server to store our files, so storage is not a big concern. But weight/size is not a big concern either, since I would be carrying it around campus, just from my car to the office.
Main programs I'll be running are e-mail, web browsing, MS Word, Excel. I'll be doing lots of word processing and staring at the screen all day. I do occasionally need to view docs/files on a CD or DVD, but not very often. Not much video or photos. No games (just work).
Do I want a bigger screen - Pro with 15"? Or is the flash drive on the Air all its cracked up to be and worth the small screen? Are both keyboards equally good? Again, I'll be doing LOTS AND LOTS or typing. And do I want RETINA DISPLAY - is it worth the extra $? To save $, I'm considering a refurbished model for whichever I buy.
Thanks in advance for your feedback!!!- Asked by Christopher A from Rockwall

AnswerWith what you would use your Macbook for, the Macbook Air would be a better choice. Screen size isn't to important when doing word processing, emailing, or web-browsing. The air does have the FLASH storage as you said, which is very good. It can be up to four times (4x) faster than HHD storage (The one the Macbook Pro uses). If you need to use CDs/ DVDs, you can always bye the Apple USB SuperDrive. Also, the FLASH Storage will allow the MacBook Air to hold up a lot longer than the Pro. The MacBook Air and MacBook Pro are the same cost, so if I were you I would definitely go with the MacBook Air. Both Keyboards are basically the same. (Apple is known for having the best keyboards.) The Pro Retina is actually similar to the air despite it's name. It has FLASH storage, and no CD/DVD drive either. The Pro Retina is better than the air, but also more expensive. for what your using it for, the Air would be a better choice.
PS. A refurbished Macbook Air is almost as good as a new one. I would highly recommend buying Apple Certified Refurbished.- Answered by Connor B from Golden

AnswerIf the only problem with the MacBook Pro is the bulkiness, then I would recommend the MacBook Air. Also remember that there is no CD (SuperDrive) in the MacBook Air (The same goes for the new Retina MacBook Pro's).

Which is better for gaming, MacBook Pro or MacBook Air?
I want to get a MacBook for school and I also want it to play stuff like Minecraft lets say Garry's Mod or something, but I want a good price since I searched the entire Internet and all what I found was Alienware which is bad for working and school stuff. So which is better, Pro with NVIDIA graphics or Air with just the standard Intel graphics? since they both have Core i5 or Core i7.

Macbook pro retina 13" i5 or i7 processor?
I will be going to college next year for mechanical engineering, and I will be purchasing a 13" macbook pro retina. I am unsure in which processor to get, the 2.6 GHz i5 or 3.0 GHz intel i7. I occasionally will be using engineering programs like CAD, and I will be using programs like Final Cut Pro for video editing. Also I plan on having this computer for the next 4+ years.
