This depends on (1) the length and (2) the "bitrate" of the songs.
The "bitrate" (my spellcheck keeps trying to change it to "nitrate") is the sound quality of the song. If you look at your music library in iTunes, you'll see that "Bit Rate" is one of the columns; this lists the bitrate of each of your songs.
Bitrate is measured in kbps. The "standard" bitrate when I was a lad was 128 kbps, but now the songs that you buy & download from Apple are 256 kbps. Basically, the higher the bitrate, the better the sound quality - up to 1411 kbps, which is uncompressed, lossless "wav" audio. (Try listening to songs of different bitrates on good headphones, and you'll see what I mean.)
A basic rule of thumb: 1 minute of audio at 128 kbps is roughly 1 MB. So, since 256 kbps is double the nitrate, 1 minute of audio at 256 kbps is roughly 2 MB. And 4 minutes of audio at 256 kbps is roughly 8 MB.
So: say that the average bitrate of your songs is 256 kbps, and the average length is 4 minutes. That means that you'll be able to fit 2,000 songs (8*2000=16,000). If the average bitrate is 128kbps and the average length is 4 minutes, you'll be able to fit 4,000 songs.
**Note that if you click on your iPod in iTunes, and then click on the "summary" tab, there's a checkbox that allows you to "convert higher bit rate songs to X kbps." This doesn't affect the bitrate of songs on your computer - what it does is to convert songs to a maximum bitrate on your iPod. This allows you to store more music on your iPod - but at the cost of lower sound quality.- Answered by Adrian W from Hadley

1gb is 250 songs. So 2gb would hold around 500 songs or less. It depends on the length of each song and how big the file is.

Can you turn the Nano screen off while music is playing like on the iPod Touch?
A friend said he couldn't use his Nano while jogging because the screen stays on so the buttons on the screen were always being touched by his clothing and thus changing what he was listening to to a movie, etc. However, I have an iPod Touch and I can start my music playing and then press the power button at the top to turn the screen off while I have it in my pocket. Does the Nano have this same feature?

What is different on the iPad mini than on the iPod touch 5th gen?
- Asked by Alastair Q
- Apr 24, 2013
- Flag as inappropriate
Answer
First of all, some of the apps are different, either in availability or in functionality. For example, Money Magazine has an app for iPad that simply doesn't exist for iPodTouch or iPhone (I even contacted Money Mag directly and they confirmed this). Another example: Palm Beach Post (newspaper) has an app that just plain works differently on the iPad than it does on the iPhone/iPodTouch: the phone/pod functionality is much more limited than the iPad version.
Second, you can now get "data" on the iPad mini (initial release didn't have that available, but it's available now); iPodTouch is only Wi-Fi.
Hope this helps.- Answered by Eve B from Boynton Beach

Answer
Yes you can, however you will need to sync your podcasts from iTunes on your computer since the nano does not run iOS. Therefore it does not permit streaming.

how do I tell which generation my nano is?
Just got a new nano.
The lightning plug is not compatible with my Bose Sound Dock. To buy an adapter one needs to know the iPod generation. Can't find that anywhere in the little bit of documentation that came with it.- Asked by John B L from Poland
