Best AnswerYou do not need a cable to connect your iPad mini to Apple TV. Just download the Remote App from App Store and while your iPad Mini and Apple TV are on the same network, you can control Apple TV from your iPad MIni.
It is very useful, as the Ipad screen becoes a giant Trackpad for Apple TV and you can type using the on screen keyboard.- Answered by Oguz A from Fairfax

I have an old fashioned stereo system with great sounding Bose speakers. Can I attach Bose stereo speakers to apple TV?
- Asked by Ann G from Saint Louis Park

AnswerAnn, I also have an ancient Harmon/Kardon stereo with old KEF Cantor-III speakers. The sound is just fabulous, and I see no need to replace my beloved audio system with a newer (and probably worse-sounding) one, just to get an optical digital audio interface that I can plug in to my Apple TV.
What I did instead was to connect my audio system to my Sony TV via the analog audio outputs (dual red/white RCA connectors). The AppleTV sends digital audio to the TV (via HDMI) which then converts it into analog and sends it to the Harman/Kardon amplifier and the KEF speakers.
I suggest that you do the same, since you obviously have a decent analog stereo system. This setup has the added advantage that *any* video source (Apple TV, cable or satellite receiver, DVD player, etc.) will play through your stereo.- Answered by Julian B from Baie-d'urfe

I lost my remote for my Apple TV, can I buy another one
I need the physical remote not the download.
Thanks- Asked by Richard T from Lahave

AnswerSure. You can purchase a remote at your local Apple Store or from the Apple Online Store. Try searching for "remote." They are about $20 to replace.
Alternatively, if you have an iOS device such as an iPad, iPhone, or iPod, you can download the "Remote" app from the App Store. I personally prefer to navigate my Apple TV this way.- Answered by Becca H from Austin

Do I need to have wifi if I'm just using ATV to mirror my iPad 4th gen that has its own 4G data plan?
- Asked by Matthew L from Goshen
- Apr 19, 2013
- Flag as inappropriate
AnswerThe Apple TV needs to be connected to the same network (wifi or LAN) that your iPad is connected to in order to stream media from the iPad. The Apple TV doesn't work with cellphone service. Unless you set up your iPad as a hotspot (I think some cellular service companies allow that) so the Apple TV is on the same network as your iPad, the 4G data plan won't help mirror your iPad to the Apple TV.

Can i connect an external hard drive to apple TV or do i have to link it via my Macbook on airplay??
- Asked by James H
- Aug 29, 2012

Best AnswerYou cannot connect an external HD directly to Apple TV unfortunately. For some bizarre reason Apple have chosen not to support the internationally recognized standard known as DLNA to stream video, photos, and music from external peripherals. If you have an iPad or iPhone you can use an app (such as Media Connect) to access DLNA peripherals such as an external HD, and then Airplay it to the AppleTV. This works fine but does of course require an iPad or iPhone to work. Alternatively you have to leave your Mac or PC switched on and running iTunes. This is a missed opportunity by Apple. Numerous other devices similar to Apple TV are avallable which do support DLNA (Roku, WD, etc). If Apple ever make an app store for Apple TV then maybe we will get DLNA but until then it is missing this vital feature.

Can an Apple TV be used outside under a covered patio?
I have a cabana and want to use an Apple TV in the cabana to stream music and movies. This is under a covered roof away from moisture, but would be exposed to dust.
- Asked by Ken M from Mckinney
- Apr 6, 2013

AnswerThere shouldn't be any problem with the outdoor setup. The Apple TV is remarkably robust, and has no fan or ventilation slots whatsoever. I would recommend putting some black electrician's tape (matches the Apple TV's color and finish very well) over the unused Ethernet and optical audio ports, as that's the only entry point for dust and moisture that I could find.
