how did i upgrade 10.5.8 to 10.7.4 ?

cause my imac did'nt have a app. store so what i need to do ? cause the only way i know how to update a mac is on app store..

mac os x 10.5.8 need upgrading?

I have mac os x 10.5.8 and there is no more software updates. Is it a good idea to upgrade to mac os x 10.6 snow leopard? will everything on my computer still run?

If I have Mac OS X 10.5.8 do I need Snow Leopard and Lion to make the new iPhone 4S and my Mac run iCloud?

I just got the iphone 4S and took it in to the Apple store for set-up. The store is over an hour away from my home so I'm quite surprised they didn't tell me I needed these software updates to run iCloud.
