Do you have to use headphones or can you just play out of the speaker built into the device?

Outputs are paired to inputs on Apple devices, so for this reason you cannot use the built-in speakers at the same time as the headset mic input. You can, however, send the headphone output from the iRig to a pair of desktop computer speakers, or a mixer.
