Could I use this in my car? I have read that those transmitter devices don't work so well in the city. Would this be a good alternative?

    Yes, I've used them that way on trips across country. You can't wear two earplugs (illegal) so you can just set the iPod and the speakers on the seat next to you or on the dash, or wherever you like. I have an adapter so I can recharge USB devices on the go. This works for the iPod and these speakers. And yes, you get a little buzzing if you listen while charging, but it's easy to work around that. I do put the iPod on the charger in the car, but the speakers go for a lot of hours before they need charging.
