You can use FaceTime to place video calls to people who own Apple devices that also support it (using a Wifi/VPN internet connection) . But from a iPod point of view: There is no built In support for Phone Networking for the iPod Touch.

However, there are alternatives to this. There are apps on the app store that allow calls and SMS messages to be sent over the internet. So far my favorites are Skype (that requires you to pay to call anyone), and TextPlus (which is a freebie). There are ways to call usng the iPod, but direct phone line calling is not supported by the iPod Touch.

    I Hope that helps.
