Office 2008 for Mac - Home and Student Edition
No VBA, great interface
Written by GL from Sacramento
Jan 16, 2008
There's some pronounced pluses, but a big minus for power users like me.
Plus #1 is that it's Universal. As someone who runs a MacBook pro, I found that to be a huge plus. The speed improvement is noticeable.
Plus #2 is the interface. It's REALLY smooth, intuitive, and well-done.
Plus #3 is PowerPoint. The makeover is just right.
The big minus is no VBA (Visual Basic for Applications). If you use VBA to automate processes in Office, it's gone from 2008. Not coming back.
But if you don't need VBA, and have never used it, it's well worth it.

Often times when other applications like Safari or iTunes are open in conjunction with word or powerpoint, the office application "unexpectedly closes."
Great new features, but still waiting for an update from apple that will fix this extremely obnoxious problem …More3683 of 4519 people found this useful

Excel 2008 not for power users
Written by RJ from Sierra Madre
Jan 19, 2008
The elimination of VBA from Excel 2008 means that users who depend on features like Solver, histograms, extended statistical analyses (such as ANOVA), and custom VBA enhancements are left out in the cold. We are left with two options: (1)stay with Excel 2004 or (2)buy the Windows version (Excel 2007). The first option penalizes Intel-based Mac users with reduced performance. I've reluctantly gone with the second option - which requires Vista or XP and Parallels (or similar program). The other problem with this approach is the new "Ribbon" interface to the Office products. Expect to lose a couple of weeks of productivity as your learn how to locate your favorite functions. …More

Office 2008 for Mac - Home and Student Edition
A massive disappointment
Written by SF from Cambridge

I only switched to mac a few months ago so have had 2 years working with Office 2007 which was fantastic - brilliant user interfaces and wonderfully intuitive to use. Office 2008 has been a complete let down - finding tools and features which I've become accustomed to using in Office 2007 is difficult and time consuming. Not only is the user interface terrible, but excel 2008 is totally unable to cope with the more computer intensive files - anything with a high number of formula calculations and worksheets crashes excel 08 every time whereas excel 07 copes brilliantly. A massive disappointment. …More

Will installing Microsoft Office for Mac on my iMac make it vulnerable to viruses??
- Asked by FM from Palm Desert
- Oct 18, 2009
Best Answer
Yes and No.
The Mac Operating System will not be vulnerable.
Your Word, Excel, and PowerPoint documents will be very vulnerable. A virus that infects Microsoft Office documents on a Mac could prevent printing and could cause trouble with sending emails that involve infected documents. You could easily get infected and spread the virus to any Windows user. …More- Answered by PS from Raleigh
