Product Information

  • The 45-Watt MagSafe Power Adapter for MacBook Air features a magnetic DC connector that ensures your power cable will disconnect if it experiences undue strain, and helps prevent fraying or weakening of the cables over time. In addition, the magnetic DC helps guide the plug into the system for a quick and secure connection.

When the connection is secure, an LED located at the head of the DC connector will light up; an amber light lets you know that your portable is charging, while a green light tells you that you have a full charge. An AC lead is provided with the adapter for maximum lead length, while the AC wall adapter (also provided) gives users an even easier and more compact way to travel.

Redesigned specifically for MacBook Air, the adapter is the perfect travelling companion. It has a clever design that allows the DC cable to be wound neatly around itself for easy cable storage.

This power adapter recharges the lithium polymer battery while the system is off, on, or in sleep mode. It also powers the system if you choose to operate without a battery.

Compatible only with MacBook Air with MagSafe Power Port.

I love this little w I've got a MacBook Air 13" (2011) that I feel is the finest travel computer for a businessman ever invented. I love this little workhorse. Also, the power adapter on mine works just fine ... no problems. Instead of unplugging every time I hit the road, I thought it would be a good idea to buy a spare for my computer bag. Wrong!

$79.95? Is this someone's idea of a joke? Eighty bucks for a power adapter? Sure the cell phone manufacturers have run this scam for years, refusing to standardize on a plug configurations/power ratings so that the buyer is forced to buy yet another power adapter (I've got about twenty of them sitting in a drawer). But those pieces of junk are only $20 or $30. $80? For what?

I've got AppleCare, so I'll just keep on plugging in and unplugging the one adapter I have until it dies, then you can replace it for free. Really, you folks at Apple build the coolest stuff on earth, but you do need to re-think your policy of over-charging for the small stuff.

But the power supply is already intermittent. It is under warranty, but they will not pay me for the half-day I will spend going to the Apple store to get something that should last longer than the computer!

  • My charger lasted exactly one year

I am careful with my stuff so this is upsetting.

Just bought my replacement after exactly one year for over $120 in the Cayman Islands.

The guys at the store recommended buying some electrical tape and wrapping the base of the thin cord to reinforce it (where one would wrap it around the prongs). They unfortunately see this too often. They also recommended first making a small loop, and then proceeding to wrap the cord around the prongs when storing the charger, to relieve any tension that would be caused by directly wrapping the cord.

It is only a matter of time before the thin cable and sleeving starts to split and the wire gets exposed and shorts leaving you with a dead unit. You have to wonder, is this designed in obsolescence? With replace power supplies costing £65 each and with so many reviews of how poor quality the product I think people will be able to draw their own conclusions. Unfortunately we are all captive consumers as there is no real quality alternative, we just have to stump up £65 each time our power supplies fail. You could perhaps forgive Apple if it was an interim issue, but this type of power supply has been in production for a long time now....come on Apple, please step up and address this issue.
