Overview

The 45-Watt MagSafe Power Adapter for MacBook Air features a magnetic DC connector that ensures your power cable will disconnect if it experiences undue strain and helps prevent fraying or weakening of the cables over time. In addition, the magnetic DC helps guide the plug into the system for a quick and secure connection.

When the connection is secure, an LED located at the head of the DC connector will light; an amber light lets you know that your portable is charging, while a green light tells you that you have a full charge. An AC cord is provided with the adapter for maximum cord length, while the AC wall adapter (also provided) gives users an even easier and more compact way to travel.

Redesigned specifically for MacBook Air, the adapter is the perfect traveling companion. It has a clever design which allows the DC cable to be wound neatly around itself for easy cable storage.

This power adapter recharges the lithium polymer battery while the system is off, on, or in sleep mode. It also powers the system if you choose to operate without a battery.

Compatible only with MacBook Air.

Cable overheated, twisted and melted on the side causing wires to break.
Tried to exchange (only 2 weeks old) and was told item not covered for physical damage...
$79 for a new one???? when you just spent $1800???
    Not a cool move.

MacBook Air 45W magsafe power adapter

    Written by KH from Hancock

I've had my macbook air for 4 months. Today the power cord stopped working. By untwisting the thin cord and playing with it for awhile I was able to get it to function again, but for how long?

After reading all the problem reviews this scares me very much. I'm skeptical of the fragility of the wire that connects to my computer and the design that says wrapping it around the "legs" on the box for storage is a good idea. And I'm very deeply frustrated with my only option being getting a new one for 79 dollars. Come on - I spent about $2500 on macbook air, time machine, cd drive, software etc. etc. and 4 months later I don't even have a dependable power supply for my $2500 computer?

Falls apart - and NOT worth $80. Maybe $8.

While I like the ease of a magnetic charger, this one fell apart when only a few months old. The little magnetic head is actually three parts, and when the little silver/plastic-y casing comes apart from the base, the whole thing falls apart. It makes it difficult to charge your Mac without TAPING the magnetic head to the Mac. I've literally had to do this because I hate the thought of spending another $80 on a cheaply made charging cord. That's just RIDICULOUS! More

Very fragile short life device with no repair parts available

    Apple, are you listening?

So why don’t you recall and redesign the power adaptor?

The magnetic tip falls apart. No spare parts available and guess what, you have to buy the whole new adapter.
How can you expect customers to be loyal when a 10 cents part breaks and you tell your clients they need to spend 75 dollars to buy a new one?

    Bad Apple

As I write, the tip of my Magsafe is splaying fine silver hairs like my Granddad once did. He died, and I fear my Magsafe is following suit.

The connector is coming loose from the wire, and any day or week soon the whole thing will surely come loose. What a comedown from my usual praise for quality Apple products. What a waste.
